This was my first visit. I asked for a half plate mutton which was of 150. When served, since I was not sure about the number of pieces they serve in a half plate, I asked the waiter in order to make sure and he clearly agreed that it is indeed a half plate mutton. During billing I was changed 300 which is for full plate. I hard a lot about this hotel but clearly this place is a scam!
It's not a hi-fi stylish place, but the food is awesome and the service really sincere. I finally made it there after planning for a long time, but very late (at 4pm!) for lunch. A few items (postor bara, mocha etc) were over by then) l, but we really enjoyed the chingri malai curry, kasha mangsho etc.and also packed the machher matha, chachchari (tel-ponta) etc to take home. Will go again, and this time not so late, for a full lunch. The prices are also great.
A perfect pice hotel at Jaanbajar, Esplanade. The food quality is unparalleled. The staff here is courteous as well. A must visit for Bangali food lovers. The Posto bora is a must try.
Excellent one as a pice hotel. Like any other pice hotel, one might have their expectations set about ambience. Expect crowd n conventional seating arrangements. However the food is awesome. Plenty of options. Though you need to be their right on time. Else u miss astounding items such as postor Bora One thing to categorically mention is the service. They look after people well. Ask if anything is needed. In a crowded place like this, this behaviour is unusual but absolutely cherished.
One of the famous & oldest restaurant where authentic bengali cuisine food can be tasted. The restaurant menu changes everyday. They have two types of seating arrangement one is AC and other is Non-Ac. In AC seating arrangement, every food item is 30-50 rupees higher than normal rate! This Pice hotel now at food prices can beat any Bengali cuisine restaurant! On any Sunday many people come here to take lunch & one has to wait for sometime to get the seat.
Food quality is good, but suggest you to take one type of dish, if you take all types of food then you will not understand the actual taste. Chingri Malaikari is best.
Being a Bengali food maniac I love everything about the hotel. In the era of air conditioned beautiful restaurants, the hotel presents a classic ambience of the the pice hotel. The owner herself looks after the order, recommends a dish or two.a homely atmosphere. Talking about the food, it's nice. Each and every fish item is finger licking. Sizes of the fishes served are larger than king size. Quality of the food is unquestionable.
We ate mutton, rice, posta bara, rohu fish, chitol fish. The food was extremely tasty. We ordered all the dishes as per the owner's recommendation. The food was served on a banana platter. They are very hospitable and kind to every customer. It should be in the itinerary of every food lover (should not be confused with food vloggers).
Nice place for Lunch in the Janbazar area. It's like a hidden gem of the Kolkata market. Nice Bengali Cuisine is served here with a very decent style. Till now it runs the old heritage style hotel with thousands of passersby daily. Many Bengali dishes are cooked everyday with fresh items. Favorite dishes mug Dal, posto Bora, aluvaja, Katla kaliya, Chingri malai Kari, Motton kosha, Chicken kosha, Ilish and Vetki.
Awesome food with reasonable price. This place give you reasons to come back again and again. Bengali food at its best, very polite and fast service. Neat and clean place.
Must for those who like Bengali dish, specially fish, but for best taste visit before 2 pm in morning and before 9 pm in night. Rate is a bit high, but taste is authentic Bengali food.
Narrow lane, not cosy, one hundred percent homely delicious Bengali cuisine available at little higher prices. It is more an eatery than restaurant. Not much waiting. Worthy of visits.
Must go eating place in Esplanade area, though the name says Ashram but they provide awesome non veg and veg meals, must try dishes are Poshter Bora, Kosha Mutton, Chingri Malai Curry, Sorshe Ilish. They have both AC and Non AC sitting arrangements. AC room meal cost high by 5/- to 10/- per dishes. They take full care of the hygiene factor, they provide Banana leaf and Earthen Glass to each n every one as those cant be reused. My personal dishes are Mutton Kosha and Poshter Bora with fine rice. They serve hot meals always. Better to visit the place within 2pm max, though it is opened till 3.30pm.
Location is not good, food is very much bad quality, rice is mostly half cooked I don't know which people tell it is awsm, outstanding. I suggest that don't go there.
The experience was horrible. The place is congested and they just don't have the efficiency to handle the crowd. The behaviour of owner and staff was very rude! Almost they'll shout on your face like you've asked for free food! I chose to sit in the AC section along with my girlfriend as we were in the mood of trying Bengali food, and we heard a lot about this place. But to my surprise the staff were rude and abusive, they took wrong orders, wouldn't serve the asked dish and when you complaint about it, they'll just shout on your face. Anyways the food was okay, but everything was ice cold, they didn't remove the bladder of the fish and cooked it, which made the taste bitter. Anything I asked to order was unavailable, so the waiter just made up his own menu and brought us whatever was left I guess. Again while billing, you'll have to remember what you ate and dictate as the receptionist will add up the numbers to end up getting a wrong total amount, haha! Extremely overpriced and unhygienic upto some extent. Please avoid this place I would suggest.
Typical BENGALI FOOD, Bhaat, dal tarkari maach. Price increased, quality deteriorated - exponentially, since my last visit in 2016. Ambiance same. Cleanliness requires much improvement.
Good food. Atmosphere is utilitarian. No ambience - strictly a working person's eatery serving excellent traditional Bengali food, on a "pice" basis. The origin of the word "pice" is debatable but opinions go that it reflects "paisa" (as in Indian sub-Rupee currency - compare to how Americans/Brits refer to cheap options as costing pennies). In it's present-day, purest sense, "pice" translates to a' la carte. I would not take a first or second-time date there. But if in the area, looking for a fast grab at inexpensive Bengali traditional food, check this out. BTW, there are no functional bathrooms here. Very crude setup beyond a hand wash area. Be prepared to eat by hand, a recurring Indian theme.
Resturant located in highly congested area, difficult to get a place for parking your car, waiter were not properly dressed seems very unhygienic, furnitures are in dilapidated condition, won't get the items (non veg dish) you ask for they always insist to any fish item, waiter behaviour were casual while taking orders and serving but suddenly become good when it is time to pay the bill, won't get a proper place to sit with family or friend, loose privacy if 3 of you are there, foods are not very good, we were served all cold items, even refuse to give rice hot, if you want to enjoy food with your family and real authentic bengali food and value for your money then certainly this is not the place I suggest.
The perfect pice hotel for those who love Bengali Cuisine, tastes absolutely incredible, from the quater mutton to fish curry, everything is mouthwatering. One should definitely visit this place if they are looking for good food at a low pocket pinch, then this is the place.
If you are looking for typical pice cum lunch Bengali restaurant, then this is place. You will surely love the food, place may be little eatery style. TM
One of the best bengali restaurant in Kolkata. Excellent service team, great atmosphere food was very good. I love the bangaliyana they put in the food.
One of the pure bengali eateries in Central Kolkata. From outside, one may feel it is a cheap and dirty place, but from inside, it considered as heaven for a foodie. I had bhat, dal, alubhaja, pabda jhaal and chatni. The bill was around Rs. 320/-. I must admit, each and every dish was properly cooked and tasty. The portion sizes were also good for a person.
Pure Bengali Cuisine. If you are from Kolkata or coming to Kolkata, you must try once. Here you will get big variety of Bengali dishes from veg to fish-chicken-mutton. And dishes taste too good & make feel 'home made food'. Price is very reasonable. Specially plates served in Banana Leaf & Clay pot which increase the tastes.
Amazing food. The best of bong food you can have in town. Easy to locate just behind the esplanade new market. Must reach a bit early to get all delicacies. Amzing veg options, posto Bora is the best. Don't miss the chicken leg piece. A must go when u r in Kolkata.
Very good quality homemade style bengali food, suitable pricing. Portions are also good, servers try to help you according to your requirements. But if you want to taste their special items for lunch then you must go before 2 p.m.
