Hotel Sonar Bangla Kolaghat

Stayed there last weekend as part of office trip. We booked 8 rooms on 1st floor. Rooms were pretty large in size with good linen and AC was really good. Tea-Coffee kits were very limited in quantity only one per person which was not sufficient. Property is very big with multiple grass lawns and a big swimming pool. Games room also good. Plenty of activities for the kids as well.

Restaurant is large with plenty of options in buffet breakfast and lunch. But taste of cooked dishes were not that you will remember. They were pretty average in taste if not bad. Food price for most items in menu card are very standard and will not put pressure in pocket.

The rooms are large and good, location is fantastic but the food quality and services were extremely poor. Took us more than an hour to check out, bills were messy, staff were indifferent to the feedback. The food was really mediocre, basic cleanliness on the restaurant was poor.

Its very nice and cozy resorts. Its located near kolaghat river. Good foods evening ambience are really awesome. The river is perfect. It can be visited with friends family and childrens.

The rooms require makeover now.
The washrooms require more experienced drawing and placements.
Service at kitchen was good and so is when you order for room service but checking out is a curse.
Food here is not upto the mark
Half cooked Steam rice and other food is not exciting at all
Be very careful with baby food
Kids and Games arena is new addition and so is well maintained
At the end I would suggest the room tariff needs 20% degradation

Very scenic view from the top floor room and great ambience and service. Food was a bit oily n heavy, but good taste.

A good place to get away with all the urban hustlers and chaos in the meadows alongside the ganga, a resort that very beautifully caters to a peace-searching mind. Unlike various resorts that don't allow dine-in if one is not there at least 1 night stay customer, yes there is minute difference in rules and services provided as well.

The Hotel experience is nothing compared to the price we paid. In an AC Superior Deluxe, there is no river view. The view is blocked by trees. We can hardly see the river.
Except Kababs most of the food items are mediocre specially Bengali cuisines.
Pool was well maintained and enjoyable.
Maintenance is so poor that cats are roaming in the corridor and eating food. No Ac in billing section, we had to wait in a queue to check in and check out. It is very very hot.
I have heard many good things about sonar bangla, but unfortunately it is not the same brand anymore.

Overall experience was good. But the hotel service can be better like the TV service, the drinking water service. Apart from this its the best place for Family or couple. Beautiful swimming pull, recreation room and fields.

Offbeat river side hotel near kolaghat Rupnarayan River place is full of calmness must visit if you love the less crowded places but transportation issue will be there if you have own car or bike then no issues

Non resident guests have to pay much more at the restaurant. Food quality also not that good! River front needs beautification. Non resident guests need comfortable resting area

Food 7 out of 10 (little expensive).
Wifi 1 out of 10 (very very poor connectivity in the room as well as lobby.those who like to work from hotel, it is just impossible.
Behavior of staff 9 out of 10.
Security 10 out of 10.
Kitchen and lawn coordination 6 out of 10.
One wall clock is badly needed in every room,

Waste of money. Better stay at Ibiza or some other property. Sonar Bangle is waste of time and money. No sports, unhealthy cafeteria and hotel looks like a dormitory.

Went for a day trip. The hotel has an extremely scenic location, right on the banks of the Rupnarayan river. The property is large, has lots of greenery and there are beautiful views of the river.

Had lunch at the restaurant, which was very sumptuous. Both vegetarian and non-vegetarian items were extremely delicious. The chicken curry was quite tasty, especially. The quantity of food was quite sufficient as well.

The staff were very helpful and polite, and service was prompt, more or less. One issue is that they charge extremely high prices for packaged soft drinks, more than three times the printed price on the bottles. Complained to the staff, to no avail.

The men's washrooms at the dining hall were dirty and smelly, and they should have been much cleaner.

In all, the best thing about the hotel is its wonderful location, greenery and atmosphere. There are benches along the riverfront within the private property of the hotel which are very good places to relax with an amazing view of the river and lots of trees and greenery. If you are looking to relax for a day or two away from the city, this is a good place overall. (I didn't stay overnight so cannot say about the condition of the rooms and amenities).

Room charges were too high as comparison to the rooms. There is nothing special to visit here. The food is awful. The chineese preparation is horrible. Even simple dal and egg curry was not good at all. The food served was cold.

Very poor service and very very poor quality of food. Waste of money in this property. Suggest people not to go stay in this property.

Place is really good. Food is little bit costly. Staff behaviour are very good. And they always ware mask. Room service is also good

A nice and refreshing gateaway for a day or two. With the ample view of the Roopnarayan River and the lush greenery one can easily have his or her relaxing time. The rooms are quite big with 24hours air-conditioning and a lot of cuisines to savour. The pool side view is pretty good and on a side note. Does anybody loves Trampoline? Cause I do and was delighted to see one. Although I didn't try it cause the weather was too hot but one should definitely try it with such a pretty view to enjoy.
The customer services are well maintained with complementary tea and breakfast.

Rooms are spacious. One can see the Roopnarayan river from almost every room. Avoid rooms that are close to the swimming pool, if you do not like noise. Gets a bit crowded on weekends. Food served is fairly good, specially the veg and non veg starters and the masala thumbs up. The weather in October was unusually sultry. Reasonably good for a short trip. Suitable for elderly visitors as there is an elevator.

I loved the property and the foods. But the person in charge of the pool was little arrogant and changed their policies within days which created some confusion.

Really a pleasant n calm place. Ideal place for family & friends. Loved the place beside the river bank. Dishes r excellent along with the well behaved service.

Nice place for a staycation with family. The rooms have great view, picturesque rupnarayan river is the attraction here. The rooms are big enough with private balcony. Service is quite good. But maintenance should be done from time to time. Overall had a great experience staying here. The food was moderate. We ordered mixed fried rice for dinner which was smelly but later they packed a fresh one. Otherwise the food was nice.

Food is good. Suite booked but a Suite doesn't have wifi? Damp walls? And No premium channels? And people say on sat sun sir we can't serve lime soda.coz of the traffic. People need to be smart and vocal.they are paying. Service is least EXPECTED. Hope they improve. Just coz ppl want to go out.u r in business.

Room rent is quite on the higher side seeing the type of rooms and view. Hotel food is horrible. We ordered a chilli chicken which we literally struggled to eat. We had to throw away the hot n sour chicken soup. The dinner at room was cold. The normal simple egg curry was also not edible. This place is not at all recommended

Just awesome. I don't have enough words to express how much I love the place. Ambience is excellent. The hotel and the behavior and services of the staffs are very good. They are attentive and always at your service. I will visit the place again and again.

Very bad service. Staff not diligent. Overpriced tariff, paid 7000+ for a room that could be 5000 at most. Food is another story in itself, ordered pomfret fish and that turned out to be rotten! At night, crispy chicken had been turned into gravy by the chef. Just a disturbing and unsatisfactory service all in all. You know ive heard so much about this place, i expected it to be much more. P.s. Theres 20% service charges extra (on top of MRP) for ice cream and chocolates. Also, in the Covid situation the room was not cleaned when we arrived and dismissed off as " oh it has been cleaned, you don't need to clean it anymore " n then after walking around the room for 2 mins my feet's backside had turned black! What a 'clean' room!

Nice place for spending a weekend with family. Location and view is awesome. Rest are standard. Price is on the higher side

One of the premium resort located in Kolaghat, but the road that leads to resort from highway is in terribly bad condition. Rooms are good, Staffs are very well behaved

This is a overrated property. Even after paying huge amount on premium rooms and food with average taste, I found stain on bed, every utensils, bathroom which is totally unacceptable and unjustified. They make horrible Chinese food and their buffet charges will put shame on few city restaurants. The room had bad stench which had to be refreshed after calling stuff. The pool area is slipshod with dirty water. I didnt find they are maintaining covid protocol strictly above all. They are only focussing on doing brisk business with compromise on cleanliness and quality service. The icecream parlour is illogically charging 20 percent extra and upon our buying stuff they didn't care to return the balance amount totally. Such a pathetic unprofessionalism. Besides the road towards the resort after exiting highway is a nightmare. The resort just cashed in on the river view to make it look ultra serene which is not. I heard about this resort many time but this turned out to be a sheer disappointment. I would carefully shun this resort every where it is present.

Place is peaceful, but while entering road for 1km was not good. Food is good, but all staff are not co-operative. Boy/Staff name 'Toofan' is good person in respect to service and hospitality.

A beautiful hotel near Kolaghat, only 80 km away from Newtown, Kolkata beside River Rupnarayan, is an ideal spot for short holiday

Excellent location, lovely property on the banks of Rupanarayan. Good service, comfortable stay, tasty food. Perfect ambience

A cozy resort tucked in rural areas beside the Roopnarayan river. Suggested to book prior to ensure a room, if going in peak season of winter and spring. Not much to do so just kick your feet up and relax with a beer, or relax in the pool. Oh yes! One important thing is that you have to bring your own liquor. Popular destination for corporate and other parties so one can expect noise as the lawn for organizing these are right infront of the rooms. I found buffet to be unimpressive for the premium they charge. But the food delivered to the room was better. Good for kids and families. Cooperative staff. Well maintained and clean.

View is beautiful. Greenery is soothing for eyes. One visit for lunch. No entry fee or parking. Buffet available at Rs. 799 per head.

Perfect weekend gateway, park for children available.

Based on the rates of the room, we expected best service possible. But the maintenance of the rooms was not done properly. Bathroom fittings were broken. Food quality was not upto the mark - Taste as well as hygiene wise. Tv and wifi was not working in the room. All the food orders are expected to be given 1-1.5 hours before. Also while checking out, we had to wait for more than 10-15 minutes just for the gate pass to arrive though we had left the rooms around 10: 30 that is much before the estimated check out time.

Overall bad experience and waste of money.

It's one of the most relaxing places to be. The staff is polite, the rooms are exquisite and the scenery is soothing. Everything is well maintained here. The unexpected part is the amazing food they served. Breakfast is free for overnight stay. The kitchen has a bar too. There is a swimming pool that's well maintained but it's up to the boarder's discretion to use during the pandemic. The Rupnarayan river is right by the side of this beautiful resort. It's a great weekend getaway for families.

Nice and quiet place with a good view and is nearby Sher e Punjab dhaba.has a nice pool and outdoor sitting area.also has a children's park and an area to play football, Cricket, badminton, etc.the staff is very helpful and informative.

Place is very good. But the roads connection to hotels are not so good. Little bit expensive in terms of service and food taste.

Last week me and my family visited this beautiful resort on the banks of river rupnarayan. My first expression after entering the resort was wow as I was mesmerized by the lash green gardens, well maintained amenities, neat & clean pathways, lobby, swimming pool etc.
At first I am mentioning the pros then I will go to the cons though there are very few things which I think must be improved. Resort was super clean. They are taking utmost care to ensure hygiene in this covid situation. Food was really fantastic, yummy. They served the food hot and as per your taste and requirements. Check in and check out was smooth. I would like to give a special mention to the entire staff. They are really well mannered, polite, sober, helpful and completely dedicated to their respective jobs.
Now let me come to the cons firstly as we booked rooms in ground floor area so it was little dampy and floors were becoming wet within minutes but still this is negligible as we all know river side areas or sea side areas have damp. But the main problem was with the toilet area every time after shower huge amount of water came out of the toilet and complete water logging occurred in that particular area though they were cleaning it and trying to make it dry but still I request the management to look after this issue.
Overall we had a pleasant time with great ambience, awesome food, well mannered staff, neat and clean area. Will definitely visit again.

Rooms are nice, clean and spacious. Food okay depending on your choice. Better to stick to the basics. Staff very polite and courteous. Ambience does suffer due to rowdy guests.

The room I was expecting was different than what they have posted in the site & even booking sites. Size was big but felt like service room. Price wise not worth it.

Location is very good. We stay in room number 322 and the view of river Rupnarayan from our room is just awesome. But the food quality is below expectations, they serve almost tasteless food. Swimming pool is ok but needs regular cleaning. Service and behaviour of stuffs is ok.

Food quality is very cheap like beggar type standerd. I hate it and suggest not take any special lunch or dinner type something.

Only river view from the hotel is good, food and cleanliness is very poor according to the price, I won't suggest to go.

Overpriced. But worth a visit for one day. Courteous behavior by staff and more or less clean. However food quality is the major issue. Breakfast was good, but lunch, dinner were below par.

I went during Holi.it was crowded that time. Still I liked the hotel. Though the maintenance of the hotel room highly recommend compared to its rate. Food not that great taste. But scenic beauty is definitely eyeshoothing. Huge space for kids to run and play. For Adult also.

I went to Sonar Bangla with my friends on Holi weekend. The hotel and the surrounding places are beautiful but the service is not up to the mark. Extremely slow service and quality of food isn't good either.

A must visit place. Clean place with polite and helpful staffs. Well maintained riverside property. Highly recommended.

A perfect weekend getaway spot but the food was pathetic & over priced.we drove down to Shere Punjab for lunch n dinner.

This resort is exremely well decorated and well managed with good scenic beauty and a beautuliful childrens' park with rides, but quality of food at the restaurant is not at per standard.

So, this place is very well known and is great as well. But for a single incident/person I regret to give it a one star. We visited this place during Holi this year. We understand there was a rush and too many people but we made no complaints. But followed next was a disaster hence I would like to put forward all the experiences we had. Firstly the check in time is 12: 00pm and we waited till 12: 30pm to receive our rooms, we had our grandparents with us who were made to suffer for the lack of punctuality of the staff. Upon getting the rooms, the rooms were not yet cleaned, half eaten rice daal, empty alcohol bottles, used towels, used bedsheets nothing was cleaned hence another half an hour we had to wait in the balcony before the room got cleaned up still no issue was made as we understand that staffs were less and there was rush so these things might happen. We were there for a day and had 3 meals lunch, snacks, dinner, nothing was served on time everything was provided an hour later that too everytime my mother had to walk up to the restaurant to get the food served. We had another family with us who were served with wrong food that too after a delay still no issue was made. Same delay kept happening for other meals as well. However as it was Holi, some abir was used by us and the elderly people had used the towel to rub it off them. They made a huge hue and cry of it stating that the TOWEL IS DAMAGED AND THE COLOUR WILL NOT GO OFF as stated by their LAUNDRY PERSON AND MR. GAUTAM, who referred to himself as the Manager. Before leaving we ourselves had to wash towels to show them that it is washable and that their towel was not damaged. Every staff was polite except this person mentioned, he is the worst person you will ever meet and mind you has no sense of how to behave with customers. I am sorry to say you are charging 6000+ for a room per day and you are making your customers clean the stuff they have used? What kind of a manager or hotel chain are you? Greatly disappointed with the behavior of this particular staff. He has put the reputation if entire Sonar Bangla Kolaghat at stake. If you are going beware you might have to clean up the rooms before leaving because this is what this person expects his customers to do. Also the same thing happened with a family a day before it happened with us they too did a good thing that they paid for the towels and took it with them. Just for a handful of nonsense people the entire reputation of the property is gone. He doesn't deserve neither holds the etiquettes to be a manager.
