Howrah Bridge also known as Rabindra Setu is an iconic landmark located in the city of Kolkata West Bengal India. It is one of the busiest and most famous bridges in the world connecting the Howrah and Kolkata districts. Completed in 1943 this cantilever bridge stretches over the Hooghly River making it a vital transportation link for millions of people every day.

One of the striking features of the Howrah Bridge is its unique design which was engineered without any nuts or bolts. Instead it is made entirely of rivets making it a marvel of engineering. This design allows for smooth traffic flow and reduces the risk of the structure weakening over time.

The Howrah Bridge (or Rabindra Setu) is a cantilever bridge with a suspended span over the Hooghly River in West Bengal, India. Commissioned in 1943, the bridge was originally named the New Howrah Bridge, because it replaced a pontoon bridge at the same location linking the two cities of Howrah and Kolkata (Calcutta). On 14 June 1965 it was renamed Rabindra Setu, after the great Bengali poet Rabindranath Tagore.

The bridge weathers the storms of the Bay of Bengal region, carrying a daily traffic of approximately 100,000 vehicles and possibly more than 150,000 pedestrians, easily making it the busiest cantilever bridge in the world. Howrah Bridge is an iconic landmark in Kolkata, India. It is a massive steel structure that spans over the Hooghly River, connecting the city of Kolkata with the bustling district of Howrah. Built in 1943, it is one of the busiest bridges in the world and is an essential part of the city's transportation infrastructure.

As an AI language model, I don't have personal experiences, but I can describe what it is like to cross Howrah Bridge from the perspective of a visitor.

Firstly, the bridge itself is an impressive sight to behold. The sheer size of it is awe-inspiring, and the steel framework looks almost otherworldly against the backdrop of the river and the cityscape. From a distance, it appears almost like a giant spiderweb suspended in mid-air.

As you approach the bridge, the traffic around you begins to increase, and you can feel the hum of activity in the air. Cars, buses, and trucks jostle for space on the narrow lanes, while pedestrians weave in and out of the gaps between them.

Once you're on the bridge, the experience is both exhilarating and nerve-wracking. The bridge is over 1500 feet long, and it takes several minutes to cross it entirely. The traffic is constant and unrelenting, and the air is thick with the sounds of car horns, engines revving, and people shouting.

Despite the chaos, there is a sense of order to the movement of traffic. Cars, buses, and trucks all follow the same path, and everyone seems to know their place on the road. It's almost like a dance, with vehicles moving in perfect synchronization.

As you look out over the river, you can see boats and ferries passing beneath the bridge, and the water is a constant source of movement and activity. The view from the bridge is spectacular, with the river stretching out in both directions and the city skyline visible in the distance.

In conclusion, crossing Howrah Bridge is an unforgettable experience. It's not for the faint of heart, but for those who are willing to brave the chaos, it's a journey that offers a unique perspective on the city of Kolkata and its bustling energy

Rabindra Setu is a "cantilever bridge" over the Hooghly River in West Bengal, India. It connects Howrah to Kolkata. Its original name was "New Howrah Bridge" which was changed to 'Rabindra Setu' on 14 June 1965. But even now it is more known as "Howrah Bridge". It is the sixth largest bridge of its kind. I have some photos of Howrah Bridge. Seriously, this is a wonder in itself.

Each city is represented by a picture like we have Eiffel Tower to symolise Paris, Taj Mahal of Agra. So also Howrah Bridge symbolises Kolkata. It is a cantilever suspension bridge which was constructed in 1943 and connects Howrah with Kolkata. Though renamed Rabindra Sethu it is better known as Howrah Bridge. On sighting it as the train pulls into the platform we know that we have reached our destination. It looks beautiful when lit up at night, The Hooghly flowing below is beautiful to behold with ferry boats, fishing boat and bathers. It is perhaps the busiest cantilever bridges with a vehicular traffic of more than 100.000 and a pedestrian traffic of easily a 100,000. In the seventies it used to be so jammed up that commuters who had to catch trains would not be able to cross this bridge and would engage porters and run with their luggage only to see their train leave the station. But now with the New Howrah Bridge constructed such things don't happen. The Mullick Ghat flower Market, vegetable market and carts filled with goods being pulled by men is a common sight. There is no dull moment here.

Heritage nice look at night.

Howrah Bridge also known as Rabindra setu is a cantilever bridge that connects the twin city of Kolkata and Howrah.

The bridge is definitely an architectural marvel worth seeing. We went at 6 in the morning, and found that that place was already alive and kicking, with wholesale of flowers going on for local temples. Besides the bridge, the whole place was something definitely worth seeing. I'd suggest you visit the place before 9am, to get the true feel of the place.

While the approach may not be the best and the ticket counter will be extremely crowded, the view from the ferry is totally worth it. Ideally, go on a weekend (Sunday preferably), so that you encounter least crowd. Get down at Princep Ghat and enjoy the view of the Howrah Bridge on one side and the Setu on the other.

Howrah bridge is an emotion first and a great identification landmark second. Rather better called the gateway to Kolkata for entering Kolkata from Liluah side. Howrah bridge connects the districts of howrah and kolkata. It is on river Ganga. The bridge is always dotted with pedestrians, several bus and taxi services are also available.

World’s fourth busiest Cantilever bridge is situated on the River Hooghly and connects the western bank of Kolkata to the eastern bank of Howrah. This bridge acts as the lifeline of Kolkata city and offers its best view from the centre of the river, although photography is restricted here.

This bridge, which handles a regular traffic of roughly 60,000 vehicles and uncountable pedestrians, is now popularly called Rabindra Setu after Rabindranath Tagore. In 1939, the construction of
bridge began, owing to the communication problem between Howrah and the-then three villages of Sutanuti, Kolkata and Gobindopur. With time, Howrah emerged to be the largest railway station in West Bengal and the centre of the metropolitan city of Kolkata.

Moreover, it was put up at the time of the 2nd World War to allow access for the Allied powers to the Burmese front. Previously there was a pontoon bridge constructed by Sir Bradford Leslie in 1874. This structure was redesigned and made into the Howrah Bridge in 1942, which was opened to the public for use since February 1943. An approximate figure of Rs. 333 crore was invested to create the strong structure of Howrah Bridge.

The bridge had two sections that covered the entire pool joining both the sides. The bridge was also lighted up by electricity. The length of the bridge was 1528 ft.and its width was 62 ft. There are two 7 ft.wide pavements on both sides of the bridge for the pedestrians and the 48 ft.road with 8 lanes allows passage of traffics and serves commuters 24 hrs.

An unique and grandeur bridge one of its own kind which must have the heritage tag. Millions cross the bridge from both side since it was build. An amazing view at sunset/night fro the mid river. In spite of its drawbacks you will instantly fell in love. For me it is a love at first sight and continues even after 70 years. Still I like to see it whenever I enter Kolkata. Just nostalgic. Also a panoramic view of the ghats and some great buldings of Kolkata and Howrah. It may look chaotic to a first time visitor but that is the way of life I enjoy too. By your veggies, consumables, and anything from pin to music

Howrah Bridge is a bridge with a suspended span over the Highly River in West Bengal, India. The bridge was originally named the New Howrah Bridge. The bridge links two cities of Howrah and Kolkata. Later it was renamed as Rabindra Setu. The bridge does not have nuts and bolts. It consumed 26,500 tons of steel, out of which 23,000 tons of high-tensile alloy steel, known as Tiscrom, were supplied by Tata Steel. The Kolkata Port Trust (KoPT) is vested with the maintenance of the bridge. The bridge has been subject to damage from vehicles due to rash driving, and corrosion due to atmospheric conditions and biological wastes. The bridge is also considerably damaged by human spitting. Corrosion has been caused by bird droppings. As an immediate measure, the Kolkata Port Trust engaged contractors to regularly clean the bird droppings. Riding over the bridge is not charged.

Made a cantilever bridge, this is one of the biggest attractions in kolkata. Though it cant be called a tourist spot, but the bridge is an essence of kolkata. Built a long time ago, this bridge supports thousands of people everyday. Due to its iron structure, it has a huge capacity. It gives a brilliant purplish hue in the evening, when the lights are switched on. But it is an extremely busy area during most of the day.
