Indian Coffee House

Well even though the food was quite alright, the one who served us was rude and I don't smoke also i can't handle smoking but that place made me puke, in every table there was someone who smoked cigarettes. When I was young i had already been there once but that time the atmosphere wasn't this critical, it was truly a place of paradise now it's not.

This is wonderful place for all and all are enjoy forever in this place and food was excellent

Came with higher wishlist expectations.
Food was not that good.
Special hot coffee was nice,
but special cold coffee

You can get aesthetic vibes. If you are a genuine Kolkata lover, please explore this place. This Coffee House is the oldest and the first coffee house of kolkata. The Iconic Indian Coffee House in Kolkata is almost 300-year old cafe, home to writers, poets, students. It was a famous rendezvous for senior citizens especially those whose memories are associated with the place and also for students of Presidency College and Calcutta University. Many people come here just for the sake of adda and just being a part of the long talking sessions. Several talented and illustrious persons from different streams have been thronging this renowned adda for a long time.

A great and a historic place, open from before Independence. The food is 10/10 but I would rather not recommend it to people who would prefer a quick bite.

The service is slow but the food is really very delicious.

During my visit to kolkata. I visited coffee house.this was not just coffee house this was the very peaceful and refreshing place.family liked too.

Good place to Hangout while working. Food are really testy and nice. With reasonable price.

The famous Indian coffee house will welcome you with its ancient flavor. The layout of its two levels is mind-blowing. All the foods look fresh here but fish cutlet/fry is most delicious. Try special coffee also. You've to wait 15/30 minutes but it's okay at such a historical place.

Nostalgic & Nothing else to be mentioned so gracefully. Now onwards Only the NAME counts, nothing specific about it, average place to spend time. Only some snacks are good, but others are average, Poor lighting, chaos atmosphere, horrible service, actually lack of knowledge of quality service, poor background for photo zone.

Ambience was very good. Foreigners also visit here. Those who don't like cigarette, may feel suffocating (my personal opinion) cause majority of the people smoke here. But food was good. Service was also very very nice and friendly. Whenever you come, always come with much time in hand, then relax and chill. From light food to rich food, everything is available. Just loved the place. Food items are moderate expensive. Overall a good place to spend time and be relaxed ️.

Food taste is below average. Completing the whole order becomes tough became of it's taste. Staffs are also rude.

The food quality is extremely bad. The behaviour of the waiters is unacceptable. They shouted at us, misbehaved with us for absolutely nothing. They cannot even treat human beings properly. My friends and I have decided to never go back.

As everyone knows the service is pretty bad out here.the waiters pays no attention to what the customer has to say. The food quality was okayish.

Opens at 12pm. The ambience, the history is great.might have trouble finding an empty table in busy days

A heritage place for eating and visiting with friends and family. Price is very moderate. Cold coffee and cutlets are really good.

Worst experience I have ever had in this kind of Reputed place.the name is running business here.not worthy at all.no taste in food & coffee just sucks.

I personally had a very nice experience and I'm pretty sure that everyone will. Good food at a very reasonable rate. The thing which I liked the most was the waiting time for the order which was very less that too when it was Lunch hours and the restaurant was packed with customers still getting my order in less then 15 mins was a commendable job.

Ambience speaks of the history this place holds within its walls. Smoking is allowed which is debatable. No additional GST charges added beyond the price which is mentioned in the menu. Nice place for a visit.

Those who are Non smoker or allergic to cigarette smoke, They should avoid these place.lt's iconic place but was not able to seat. Felt sorry!

It is a Vintage place for all Bengalis!
But, I think according to their names and fames they Should make some better coffee!

Its okay but not great. Only suitable for college students and breakfast eaters. Staff is not attentive. Portion sizes are less against the prices. The normal water looks pretty unhygienic, you need to purchase the bottles. Overall, I guess the hype for this place is only because of its history, vintage and nostalgic existence.

Amazing place to hangout with friends. It also has a historic value attached to it as many famous personalities used to frequent this place like Satyajit Ray and Rabindranath Tagore. One aspect that should change is that there should be a separate smoking area but apart from that everything from the food to the service was great.

A pretty good place. The menu may be a little expensive.but you can sit there for sometime and gossip (in the ground floor). On the upper floor the waiter will tell you to get up as soon as you pay your bill if the place is crowded.

It's a great place, one of the oldest place of our country, 100 years old building, where leaders were planning and making strategies inside this building during independence of India movement before 1947, where Subash Chandra Bose were leading the along with mahatma Gandhi

Nostalgia galore.continues to be an iconic place to visit in Calcutta. They are serving only coffee post they have opened up after pandemic.

The worst and worst place is to order about 1 horse and not get food and have to come back at the end. If a waiter asks such a bad service, the answer will not come.

The entrance to this beautiful place reeks of bad odour and urine. Food is good no doubt and is. Slightly overpriced. Ambience is awesome.

Nostalgic. But the quality of food have detoriated a lot.
However it is still best to spend time and have a good 'adda' with friends.

They have many outlets in the country but perhaps no other outlet is as popular as the one known as “Coffee House” on College Street in the central part of then Calcutta, now Kolkata.still retains its old-world charm with a very high ceiling, simple tables, and chairs, and a huge photograph of Asia’s first Nobel laureate Rabindranath Tagore hanging at a prominent place. The waiters wear starched white uniforms, a red belt, and a signature turban that stands as high as their noses. (bigger question- can they smile?)

Coming to food - we ordered Veg Hakka and cold coffee.both were bakwas (worst). I guess it's better for some coffee and sutta and let the history talk to you.

Place of Heritage, Dress code of the staffs is good. Food quality and quantity for the price bracket and services is good.

Indian Coffee House is a cafe located opposite the Presidency University in College Street, the most famous of Indian Coffee House branches in Kolkata. It has been for a long time a regular hang out and a renowned meeting place (adda) for intellectuals and students (and ex-students) of the Presidency College,  University of Calcutta, and other institutions in College Street. It has played an important part in Calcutta's (Kolkata) cultural history and known as the hub of intellectual debates.

Awesome place for snacks with reasonable price after lockdown too. Was crowdy after the lockdown but now it's comparatively less crowdy. But don't know whether it's open after part lockdown.

It's a wonderful experience, you can feel the old vibes here. Staff attire is totally different from new age restaurants, that old charm will definitely make you happy and food is also good.

Only fish finger and chicken cutlet was good. Chowmin is very bad.with no salt and tasteless. Chilly chicken was not cooked properly. Cold coffee is OK ok.

More than food and beverages it's Nostalgic.we are running behind the materialized success and in mid fourtys, while was young this was a place where we used to dream over a cup of infusion.

A heritage cafe in kolkata. The first and second floor have table chairs for sitting arrangements. Now they are serving a brief menu. They are serving their famous fish fry, fish kabiraji, chicken and mutton starter items. They are also serving Chinese and Indian foods. The place needs no introduction. This is a nostalgic place for middle aged and old aged people.

The ambience is top notch ; no doubt regarding that.
Food is good, 'Coffee' is mediocre.
Prices are on the costlier side.

Fantastic. For I had a roaring adda with my college mates of 1979 batch. Manas has come down from Las Vegas. Partha, Debashis, Subrata and myself are from Calcutta. It was a trip down memory lane.

All Bengali must visit that place at least for once. The place is not like today's luxurious restaurant or not something like ccd. This place contents lots of emotion which just stands for "bangli"

It's iconic and known for its heritage. Food is cheap. Quality is not that bad but not so good as well. Cats can be seen roaming around! This was a surprise. But that's the way it is.
