It's a very popular meeting place for youngsters and common people. The food and service is moderately good. Need cleaning and sound absorption panels in walls.
Poor quality food. Remains crowded with people occupying tables for long without food or after completing food. Delayed service. Atmosphere very shabby. Cats and dogs loiter inside the restaurant.
If you are looking for a hole in the wall, this probably is the oldest one. It is an experience to be in such a historic place where so many thinkers once sat. The crowd is mostly old since youngsters probably prefer shiny new cafes. The food is not ground breaking but it is good and consistent and tastes like nostalgia. We had cold coffee and chicken kobiraji. The cold coffee is a must try along with fish fingers and fish cutlet. It is quite reasonably priced too. The entire meal was around ₹200 and quite enough as an evening snack for 2 people. As you are entering 8B, look towards your right towards the jadavpur market and you'll see if on the first floor a little bit into the lane.
Sitting area is small and noisy. I think they do not value the customers and follow their own rules. We were not finished with our meal when they switched off the lights to vacate the place. We had butter toast, onion pakora, mutton cutlet and hot coffee. Over all food quality and taste is average. However, food prices are reasonable.
Good place for chatting with friends even for hours. Quality of food is not up to the mark. If one wants to spend time with friends in low cost, it is a good place. It's a non-smoking zone.
Visited after about 10 years. The place looks exactly the same after all these years except some wooden chairs replaced with plastic ones. The coffee is still good. The vegetable pakoda, fish finger and chicken pakoda are okay. The waiters are okay. People from all age groups can be seen here continuing their chitchat over cups of coffee and tea.
It's a bengali nostalgia. But frankly it's very stuffy and hot inside. Food is ordinary just like other places. Basically it's a meet-up place for chitchat. U can give it a try.
This is a small outlet of Indian Coffe Workers Federation tucked away on the 1st floor of Jadavpur market Kolkata. They serve fairly palatable filter coffe and various exciting munchies. It's a hangout for University students as well as various milieu. Good to try
Nice place to hangout with friends, brings back the nostalgia of old college days. Food quality has degraded over time and withstanding the storms of inflation, but still not bad. All depends on your luck, you might get a great Kabiraji on some day and even not get a proper toast the next day. All in all, a good place to spend some time and reminisce with old pals.
Indian coffee house branch in Jadavpur is what I like the most. Nice neat and clean with airy atmosphere. No smoking is allowed here. Though one can go outside to the balcony for smoking. Staff behaviour is descent and helpful. I like the food here mostly the cutlet. Coffee is also good here. Best ambience to have an adda and chillout with close buddies.
Frankly speaking the coffee was too average.overpriced for Rs. 28.its only own for the historic identity but unfortunately it has lost it tastes in recent years.its only known for its nostalgia feeling and having a good adda with friends.
The history of the Coffee House at College Street can be traced to Albert Hall, which was founded in April 1876. Later, the Coffee Board decided to start a coffee joint from the Albert Hall in 1942. Notable citizens were frequent visitors to the place. In 1947, the Central Government changed the name of the place to "Coffee House". The place became a meeting place for the poets, artistes, literati and people from the world of art and culture. In 1958, the management decided to shut down the Coffee House, but it was re-opened the same year, after professors of Presidency College and Calcutta University rushed off a special petition to the government, to save the heritage place. In 2006, a huge financial crunch kept the co-operative society from undertaking renovation of the coffee house. Though a few companies such as Asian Paints approached the society with offers to renovate the restaurant, the offers were refused due to clash of norms and conditions.
You can get the post independence vives here, pocket friendly place, best among college students and the elderly people who wants to have a gossip/debate or discussion.
Another Traditional Indian Coffee House at Jadavpur, Near 8B, Small area but it's good for hanging out with friends and Family also. You must try onion pakoda.
If you want to feel the nostalgia of Kolkata, then must visit the place once. But food quality and quantity is not so good. The place is basically for 'ADDA' with friends and family.all ages person come here and gossip with a cup of coffee and tea.
Location wise jus awesome, jus a minute distance from jadavpur 8b bus stand. Food quality ok.price wise reasonable. Cafe condition not good cats are roaming around.
Good, standardly priced, hygienic place. For the people who are not looking for flashlights can have coffee with other breakfast and snacks items. Food quality has improved over the years. Mostly snacks or brunch. Not for extensive main course meal.
We are connected with Jadavpur Coffee House since our college days, so you can visualize our attachment now we are pretty senior (more than 70 odd years) still crave to feel our nostalgic moments with a cup of coffee with this very old coffee house.
