Not worth the high tariff Complimentary breakfast is absolutely trash Food options are very limited and pretty unpredictable Ground staff are very good but management is very bad and very unprofessional No hot water in shower and basin, but available in tap They even charge for extra tea bags served in the room Not any hint of any royalty during stay.more like a regimental experience at the dining room
A beautiful palace at Jhargram and also a tourist attraction. The property is magnificent and a bit maintained but very secured. The in-house staff were courteous and well mannered. The quality and taste of food has quite some room for improvement. The rooms are neat, spacious with a king-bed and minimalistically but nicely decorated. A big and clean attached bathroom which could be renovated in the future.
Dewan Rai Bahadur Debendra Mohan Bhattacharya, who developed Jhargram town into a modern planned township and commissioned the this Palace in 1931 which is one of the finest example of Indo Saracenic architecture in Eastern India. We visited this palace, you can book rooms here and experience the royalty. Had a great experience.
Jhargram Raj was founded around 1592 AD by Sarveshwar Singh who along with his elder brother who were Generals under Man Singh of Amer and came to conquer Bengal when Emperor Akbar granted Subehdari of Bengal, Bihar and Orissa to Raja Man Singh. [citation needed] Sarveshwar Singh belonged to the Chauhan clan of Rajputs from Fatehpur Sikri. He defeated and vanquished the local Mal tribal kings who were ruling the region known as Junglekhand, even today in order to commemorate this victory, every year an idol of Mal Raja is made and slain on Vijayadashami day. [citation needed] As a reward, Raja Man Singh, granted mansabdari of the entire region of Junglekhand to his victorious generals Sarveshwar Singh Chauhan and his elder brother, under suzerainty and subordination as a tributary vassal state to the Mughal Emperor Akbar. He named his capital Jhargram which means 'a village surrounded by deep forests', hence the rulers of Jhargram assumed the title "Malla Deb". In 1799, the ruler of Jhargram, revolted against the East India Company along with rulers of Bishnupur and others and the revolt was termed as Chuar Mutiny. The ruler was forced to surrender and the status Jhargram kingdom made to a Zamindari estate under the British authority. The kingdom had eight sardars under the system and one Sub Zamindar of Beliaberah. The royal family ruled their dominions and estates from Jhargram Palace. The kingdom had its golden era during the reign of Raja Narasingha Malla Deb, under the guidance of his mentor and Dewan Rai Bahadur Debendra Mohan Bhattacharya, he developed Jhargram town into a modern planned township and commissioned the new Palace in 1931 which is one of the finest example of Indo Saracenic architecture in Eastern India and spread over 30 acres.
It's a beautiful palace. The name of the king was late Narosingha Malla Deb and he belonged to Malla dynasty. The structure of the royal palace is really amazing. Well decorated place.
Beautiful looking palace. Surrounded by garden full of flowers. Presently entry inside palace is restricted due to covid situation. But open for the guests who prior booked the palace and wants to stay there.
An amazing architectural beauty with both Italian and Islamic structural influences. The domes and courtyards will definitely make you feel royal. The walls are mounted with the wild animal skins and horns, which give it another feather on it's beauty. The corridors are handsomely crafted with mosaics. Do visit his lovely charming heritage site.
Jhargram is a picturesque town in West Bengal surrounded by Belpahari hills and rivers like Subarnarekha and Kangshabati. Jhargram Rajbari is a central attraction of the place for tourists. Jhargram Rajbari is part of that rich historical heritage. It is still the current resident of the Malla Dev Royal Family. The place also boost of its lush greenery and thick canopy of Sal, Teak and Mahua.
The Rajbari itself is in shambles. We stayed on the new complex opposite to the Rajbari and visited this place that evening. Rs 15 is charged per head to view the property from a distance, you can't even climb the stairs. The guard are rude. Would never dare visit this property, there are better places you can see for RS 15. They don't even maintain the place properly for the money charged worth.
If you are at Jhargram it is the most visited and most popular place to visit even from your busy schedule. The palace is 350 years old and made inspired by European and Muslim art and sculpture. Old Shiva temple is also there. Presently it is a part of heritage tourism by government of West Bengal tourism development authority. The accommodation facilities are nice and beautifully. Booking can be possible through tourism website.
Only front side of the Mahal is accessible to the guests! Overpriced, Itachuna is far better! No tour of the rajbari available, the family of the so called raja still resides on the 2nd floor! Poor restoration! Even my house is better than that! Poor service! Waste of time & money for me!
We were here for 3 days. Charges Rs. 4000/- for a family room. Lock of the bathroom was not working. Everytime we had to open the bathroom by using a key. We have complained to the manager. Promised made by him not kept. We had to bear with that. They do not clean room regularly. They do not change bedsheet, pillow cover, towel etc. Unfortunately we could not change the heritage place since we had paid 100% advance through Jhargram tourism department which is a private organisation. We narrated our ordeal to them. They promised to solve the problem but nothing was resolved. Jhargram tourism department objected our plan to change of hotel. I think this is because of loosing of commission. I have later observed better hotel just opposite of Rajbari palace. Food was also of inferior quality. I doubt cook was trained.
The Jhargram Raj Palace is the current residence of the Malla Deb Royal family, it is a structure combining the Gothic and Muslim architectural modes. About 15 of the rooms in the ground floor have been converted into a Heritage Hotel. The Jhargram Raj Palace is an opulent Gothic structure built in 1931 AD, this palace was designed by the Calcutta Improvement Trust during the reign of Raja Narasingha Malla Deb Bahadur. The Palacial Guest House is a part of the Jhargram Raj Palace it has been a host to several dignitaries right from it's inception.
First of all, please do not get confused between Jhargram Rajbari Complex and Jhargram Raj Palace. Former one is a property run by WB Tourist Department (May be booked online and near to the entrance of later one) and the later one is a property run privately by Mate Malla Deb's family. One would feel at home in the palace, with the helps of the maintenance & servicing staffs. Food is bit costly however feeling is good. Booking is not still through online but by depositing money in the property's account, though there is not much hassles. To take the feelings/Maja of rajbari, one must visit the property. One should not forget to take part and enjoy Sandhya Puja in the attached temple, by the Raj Family Member.
