If you wanna explore bengali culture or wanna know Rabindranath's life and his home then this is the best destination for you. One of the best aesthetic place I have ever visited. Proud to be a bengali
29 सितंबर 2023 13:11
It's an ancestor home to the Tagore family. Now turned into a museum. Rabindranath Tagore's life and death is well explained in the museum. The house depicts bengali culture. One would feel like they have travelled back to many years while being at this place. There are different galleries at the meusem Chinese, Thai and Japan which shows the relationship of Tagore with these countries. This place will be open only at 10: 30 am though it is mentioned it will be open at 9am. And We have to buy a ticket for ₹50 in order to just click pictures outside the property. Clicking Photos are not allowed inside.
29 सितंबर 2023 1:14
One of the best place to feed your cultural desire as a bengalee. A must visit place to witness the life of Rabindranath Tagore with all his lifelong belongings and valuable creations.
27 सितंबर 2023 21:50
Behaviour of staff was very bad. All of staff are busy with hijacking money in the name of entry fee, photo permission money, punishment money etc.
They didn't care any visitors or tourists even if foreigners.
23 सितंबर 2023 20:25
If you love Rabi Thakur, you must visit Jorashako Thakurbari. Lots of information about Rabi Thakur.
21 सितंबर 2023 3:52
Rabindranath Tagore's birthplace and Zamindari House now converted into a museum. It is like a time machine that suddenly takes us to a period 150 years ago. Very well maintained by the staff too.
19 सितंबर 2023 16:10
Very nice.but there should be some seating arrangements inside the galleries. Shoes are not allowed inside but there should be a place to keep shoes protected from rain water.a good quality souvenir shop is required.

The most amazing places to visit in kolkata for peace loving people. They had a building known for Chinese culture brought up by Rabindranath, that house is amazingly beautiful. I would always prefer going to this place whenever I'll back in kolkata than going to some crazy pub or club.

Thakurbari evokes your deepest sense of respect and pride. It's just 2mins away from Ganesh Talkies. I carried my RBU student ID so I didn't have to buy a ticket. My friend had to pay Rs. 20 for her ticket. Taking pictures inside the museum and other rooms and galleries is not allowed. I guess that's the best part as you can give your eyes time to immerse in the beautiful paintings that hangs on those walls. The rooms and all the items that it is filled with have the time locked in them. It's downright goosebumpy. You can take a few pictures in the Thakur dalan though after paying Rs. 50. The place is very well kept and managed. Everyone who's in Kolkata must visit this place. Before going there, we thought it would take us hardly 20mins to cover the museum. We were wrong. We went at 2: 30 and by 4: 37 we were tired after walking so much from one room to another. Still we couldn't read all the poetries carefully and had to leave as we had other commitments elsewhere. Therefore it's a must to keep some time in hand while you're visiting Thakurbari as it is much bigger than you can imagine.

12 दिसंबर 2021 12:35
Good place, but they dont allow camera inside the museum, they allow for the lower openyard kinda place and charge 50rs for that. Seriously. Security guard were nice but i find them scolding an old man and his daughter for opening camera or something, but in a really rude way. The nerve centre of bengal Renaissance the Thakur bari seems to be a good place for a weekend evening if you adorn Rbindranth or u r a history geek. Just 10min walkable distance from MG road metro. You will not get bored as Rabindra sangeet was being played all the time.
04 दिसंबर 2021 12:40
Photography is not allowed inside the place. For outside photography one need to buy ticket of 50/-
11 नवंबर 2021 22:42
The house of the great Kobiguru Ravindranath Tagore, the Noble Prize winner and pride of Bengal. Over here there is display of different art, his family background, room where he took his last breathe, his visit in different countries and their details, his relation with his Scientist friend J. C. Bose, and a lot of details about his life. A great experience and a great place for inspiration. You even get to see the architecture of 16th century.
29 अक्टूबर 2021 17:47
This place can make you fall in love. What a beautiful place it is. The soft Rabindra Sangeet playing in background as you walk inside the rooms. It's beautiful.
23 अक्टूबर 2021 18:57
I seriously wonder, why I haven't been here before!? Very well managed, due to the pandemic visitors have only one hour to view the innumerable poetry and art displayed. There are 3 galleries, and each gallery gets progressively better. Had a wonderful time. Added bonus, it does have a lane where you can park your four wheeler in peace. Now make sure, that you have at least one vaccine doze certificate ready, as you are required to do so to enter the premise.
19 अक्टूबर 2021 12:47
They are currently only allowing entry for fully vaccinated people. The museum is very interesting and details the life of Rabindranath Tagore very well. The building is beautifully maintained.
18 अक्टूबर 2021 4:55

A wonderful place of interest in this City of Joy.
The museum houses a lot of artifacts, all maintained quite nicely. Faint Rabindra sangeet is constantly being played, which adds to the vibe of the place. For all Rabi Thakur anuragis, this is a must visit in the city.

And in this era of pandemic, protocols are being followed nicely.

Being a bengali this place is a reason of pride for us. We all know Jorashanko Thakurbari used to be the home of Rabindranath Tagore and his family. Now it js well known as Rabindra Bharati University. This place is a must visit during Dol Utsav AKA Holi Festival. It has a museum which is lovely and well decorated. You cannot enter the museum with shoe to maintain the cleanliness so you have to take it off before entering. Entry fee is very low though. Highly recommend place for tourist.

Landmark: Opposite C-Center Mall.

Couldn't go inside the place due to Covid restrictions. The place looked beautiful from outside and could only imagine how great it would from inside. This is the ancestral place of Rabindranath Tagore. The museum contains a family tree which we missed. Apparently every Tagore family memeber had a part to play in the Renaissance. An example of it is Thakurbari women bringing a change in the way saree is draped. They have immense contribution in the very fabric of Bengal culture

Historical place.it's generally crowded on the birth anniversary of Rabindranath Tagore. And really good place to visit
12 मार्च 2021 9:36
Tagore's place! The museum beautifully showcases Tagore's life and works. Any Tagore lover can spend 4 or 5 hours easily going through the various galleries displaying Tagore, his family and artifacts from various countries that he visited over the years. The museum in recent times has expanded the number of galleries and they well maintained.
There's really a lot to see here and one can visit this museum again and again if only to be inspired by The Guru's life and works.

You will be impressed by the collections of Tagore hand-writing drafts if you’ve read some of his poetry. I was very touched by the letter to Gandhi. He revealed his ambition to making India better. You can’t get pictures inside. The only way to see is come by yourself. Remember to wear thick socks becuz the floor is cold and hard and it must be visited without shoes. Oh, young Tagore is handsome and talented ><

There is a rare chance to see amazing interior from turn of century house. Few nice pieces of furniture. Very little English translation though, roughly a 30%. Sad. But beautiful.

This review is based on a different issue and mostly related to the administrative body.
Visited the place a few days back. No doubt it is a beautiful place and had an wonderful experience visiting the birthplace of world famous poet R. N Tagore.

But there is a certain thing that caught my attention and I can't resist mysely without discussing. Photography was not allowed inside the building (museum), yet the administrative body was charging Rs 50 for camera (even for smartphone cameras). Now, I have no complain against photography restrictions within the museum. There are certain important places where photography is prohibited and I think everyone should follow it and I am totally fine with that. But the thing that bothered me is that the administrative body is charging money for cameras only to take photo of the building and that also from outside. Now this I felt a kind of robbing the tourists. You are saying you will not allow anyone to take photo within the building. Cool. But again you are charging Rs 50 which is 2.5 times the price of entry ticket for taking pictures of the building from outside. Seriously! Who the hell does that? !

Take Indian Museum in Kolkata for example. If you take photo from outside of the building, you don't have to pay. But for photography inside the museum one have to pay for the camera. The same rule applies everywhere.

I was quite upset. Not for paying the money but being robbed by the administrative body in Jorasanko Thakurbari.

Come on guys.just grow up. Atleast don't use your filthy business tactics in this holy birthplace of the world famous poet. You should be ashamed of yourselves for taking money from people by treachery. Shame on you!

P. S. - Do the right thing. Don't fool the commoners and tourist. Don't charge the tourists for taking picture of the building from outside.

In the month of Baishakh, our knees are running water after our little river runs down.
When I remember the river near the village, the river floats in front of the eyes. I read Rabindranath's 'storytelling' in college life. Stories like leave, kabuliwala, post master, completion and hamanti many times do not fade even after reading. When I read the 'Finishing' story, I found that the skilled weapon could create such a fine sword that he could not even know if he had bifurcated the man. Widow's sword is so fine, she never knew when she was hit in the middle of childhood and youth, '' knowing the essence of the writing prevailed before she knew it.

At the sea of Rabindra, poetry, music, drama, novels, stories, essays, comedy, songwriting, children and painting. Wherever the eyes go, surprise is there Poetry number 1, song 2,3, short story 3, novel 3, drama 1, itinerary 1, children's literature 3. He was the first Asian literature and the first Bengali Nobel Prize winner.

A talented singer, composer, musician, actor and philosopher, possessing wonderful talent. The characteristics of Rabindra's creation are that of sentimentality, lyricalism, spirituality, love of nature, love of humanity, patriotism, beauty, reality and romanticism.
While studying Bangla literature, the symbol has to be religious, 'Thayi nahi nhai ni chai se tari / amri went to gold paddy surrounded by bhari / sravan gagan / dense cloud turn around / read river shine / rhinu on the bank of zero river' which was the symbol of Mahakal. 'Gold trumpet'. The symbol of the great creation is the 'rice of gold' and the 'thick cloud' is the symbol of disappearance in the Grass of Mahakal.

In the 'Kalikal' the creator has gone beyond the clutches of creation, but nothing of creation has gone beyond the Creator's sight. The Creator appears in many countries. Sometimes the Creator acknowledges and believes that the Creator expresses his own words in the face of creation. This belief is found in the words, "You sit in the heart, you take away your language / speak your words in your mouth / forget my words / what you want to say / whatever you say I say. "

Many days wish to see the birth place, photos, costumes, furniture etc.of Rabithakur

Jorasanko is a neighbourhood of North Kolkata, in Kolkata district, West Bengal, India. It is so called because of the two (jora) wooden or bamboo bridges (sanko) that spanned a small stream at this point. Apart from the distinguished seat of the Tagore family, traditionally known as the Jorasanko Thakur Bari, it was also home of the Singhas (including Kaliprasanna Singha), the Pals (including Krishnadas Pal), and the families of Dewan Banarasi Ghosh, Gokul Chandra Daw, Narsingha Chandra Daw, Prafulla Chandra Gain, and Chandramohan Chatterji. "The area thus became the cradle of Bengal Renaissance. " It was earlier known as Mechuabazar. The earliest list of thanas (police stations) in Kolkata was prepared in 1785 for both police and municipal administration. Jorasanko was one of the 31 thanas then recorded.

Amongst the institutions in Jorasanko are – Adi Brahmo Samaj, the Jorasanko Bharati Natya Samaj, the Kalikata Haribhakti Pradayani Sabha, the Minerva Library and Oriental Seminary. The Oriental Seminary started in 1829 by the educator Gour Mohan Addy, was one of the earliest privately run, first-rate, Hindu supported modern school in Kolkata, open to middle and lower middle-class Hindu boys only.

Rabindra Bharati University, the third university in Kolkata, was set up in 1962 in the Tagore family's house at Jorasanko, primarily as a centre for music and fine arts, but extended subsequently to arts and humanities.

In 1888, one of the 25 newly organized police section houses was located in Jorasanko.

2019: Less than half the rooms are open to visitors here and that itself takes such a long time to cover. This place is a treasure trove for those wishing to discover Kabiguru Rabindranath Tagore again. Try to avoid the public holidays and festive time for visits as the rush is just too heavy. Try not to miss the Humber car that Rabindranath used to travel and the garage is located just behind the entry ticketing area (usually out of sight). Entry: Indians Rs 10, Foreigners Rs 150. Camera (optional) charges Rs 50. Car park possible inside the premises.

Management is not upto the mark. Tour of the museum could have been better. Path to follow in order to cover the entire museum is nowhere to be found which makes things confusing. The museum itself is fairly stocked considering the main museum is in Shantiniketan. Camera charges are exorbitantly high and are unnecessary as photography is not allowed inside the museum (so ironic) so I would recommend not to buy a camera pass. The museum does not take one to the roots of Tagore but only serves to provide a glimpse of it.

Beautiful place.but stuffs are terribly rude especially the 2 ladies who were in charge of providing coupons for cameras.
I will suggest you don't buy coupons for cameras (mobile cameras also).
