Maha Kali of Kali Mandir is calm, beautiful and radiating her divine grace on the Devotees. She is all powerful. But what to say? My family went to have the dharshan of Kaali Maatha on Sunday (24.09.2023). The temple premise is infested with touts allover. Right from 200 Meters from the main entrance, they will start pestering you, tempting you for quick dharshan of Kaali Maa. Lot of people were standing in serpentinelike queue. But these touts bypassed all of them and enter into the sanctum Santorum via the exit point (but there is only one narrow entry and exit way). Some in the powers that be should do something to ease the congestion by controlling the touts. The only way to avoid this kind of of long waiting is to go very early to the temple, before 06.30 AM
This is a three-hundred-year-old temple that remains highly active. If you are a devotee of Kali Ma, it is a must-visit place for you. When you go to worship, join the queue and avoid relying on Pandas. Unfortunately, there are plenty of scammers here who exploit people's devotion and disrespect their faith. It's important to be cautious and avoid them.
This 1 * is for the goons (pandas) there, right from the exit gate of the metro station till wherever you go they will be behind you to loot you. Pathetic and if you don't agree with a panda or want to go on your own they start abusing you they stats humiliating you. Pathetic because of these people kalighat is no longer a place of attraction amongst locals of kolkata. When you go to dakshineswar temple you will find that things are well organised there are specific areas for selling puja samagri and best part you will not find a single panda there to disturb you. You go inside the temple on your own and worship maa as per your likes and beliefs
It's a divine experience to visit Ma Kali temple in Kolkata. Since some repair work is happening and also a wet floor due to the monsoon one needs to be careful in finding their way. A must visit for a Hindu visiting Kolkata.
It was very worst experience in side the temple. Very very bad manegment and way of handling is totally pathetic by local #Pandit in side the temple. They are taking money inside the temple from so called gentleman people and start the maa Puja. Pandit are not all vary about old mans and womens, childrens who are standing in common line (Common line wo to aisi Mano jaan nikal jaye Itni gardish).
I have few questions to Inside Pandit, So called Gentleman pepole.
1- Dear Pandits why not separate line in side the temple for men and women? 2- If anything happened to standing pepole in the row, because of your inside drama, who will be responsible? 3- Dear So Called Gentleman pepole are you thinking money is only way to do this kind of activity? If you don't have time to stand in common line or VIP line then please don't come to any temple. It will help to you only not us. Q ki tum aisi jgaho pe aane ke Layak hi nhi ho. 4- Dear Ma'am #CMO West Bengal, Its humble request to you please take this issue under your surveillance. It's to urgent, otherwise some day will happen something because of inside Pandits.
Temple's outside is under construction, And Where-ever you see garbage & garbage are there. Very dirty place. 150/- is needed for special Darshn as per Panda. In location, It's 10 minutes walking from Kalighat Bus stop and Metro station.
Regarded as one of the holiest of 51 Sakti Peeths in India. This is the most visited place in Kolkata due to it's history and legends. The temple is dedicated to the Hindu Goodess Kali and it's located by the banks of Adi Ganga. The present temple structure was built in 19th century and is 200 years old.
Home of Kali-maa along with her blessed sons who are the Real Headache for pilgrims from the road to Gorbhogriha. Its full of Pandas who troubled a lot for people. Its very irritating and troublesome for common people. Its should be eradicated to make common visit a real peace.
As a devotee and someone who has visited the mandir for multiple times here are some key facts for first time visitors.
1. When you visit Kalighat Mandir, don't entertain the nagging pandits at the gate.
If you want honest and authetic pandits from old shops (been there for generations and won't thug you) then ask for Gate 1 and go to any decent shops that you feel comfortable.
Ask the onwer for a good pandit and take the Prasad box (thise are sweets and flowers with some incense sticks) price may vary from Rs 50 to 100, pandits if they take you via VIP gate (which is like less queues to enter the main mandir where the deity is situated) will take maximum Rs 150-250/- per person (which includes VIP gate charges and pandit charges.
Inside the mandir there might be rush cause everyone comes to offer their prayers so that is usual.
Kudos to Kolkata police out there who ensures peaceful darshan for everyone.
If you face any issues ask for immediate help from any Police officer, volunteers atbthe mandir premise they are very helpful.
One of the holy shakti peethas located in Kalighat. Thousand of devotees come to the place but still there could be lot of development can be done to improve the infrastructure with amenities.
I'm blessed that I live in Kolkata where I can meet Maa Kali everyday, only few kilometres from my location.true religious and faith Love the place. JAI MAA KALI.
Visited this place for Darshan on Saturday evening. We had a good Darshan and seeked blessings at the Shakti Peeth. We reached here through Metro. There was a long que to enter the temple on weekends. The biggest issue here is the maharajs roaming outside. There are just so many following you to pay ₹200/- for VIP entry illegally and than pay ₹500/- to enter the main hall where the goddess is for Darshan, incase you want to do the Darshan without queuing up. No receipts are issued for the same.
A very jagrut temple, but totally commercialised by the pandits (or should I say the bandits). They have constant eye on your wallet and will make every attempt to squeeze money out of you. BEWARE.
One out of 51 ShaktiPeetha The darshan Queue is not properly managed.local pandits demand for donation. Not much cleanliness in area.seen some pandits torturing devotees for money.
Most popular place for worship of goddess maan kali known as Dakshina kali temple. Bali of khasi (goat) on occasion of mundan and fulfillment of Peoples desired result taken places. Temples allowed Peoples to enter into grabh grih of maan through by standing in que with panda who chant kali mantra.
There is just one main temple left. If you are not careful you might gey robbed by the so called pandits. If you are in a hurry to, bargain for the vip line
Insane crowd. I got to see goddess for only a microsecond. The crowd can be easily managed but people seem to purposely push people. And pandit use that to get money to take you see Kali without queue. Bt that another horrible queue. Can be maintained and coordinated better
Mandir is old but Poojaris have made fun of it. Every Poojari is behind money. Every single person in that temple is behind money. Maa Idol is really powerful but I saw cockroaches moving on that divine Idol.
Don't visit guys. The priests play with your emotions. They are all for money. They will knowingly delay the que so people opt for paid visit. And that money isn't even used for welfare of temple, it goes in thier pockets and temple remains in bad shape. To sum it up they are just money hungry goons in disguise of priests
Kalighat Kali Temple is a Hindu temple in Kalighat, Kolkata, west Bengal. It is one of the 51 Shakti Pheethas. There are Four Adi Shakti Peethas where one of the body parts of Goddess Sati fell in each of the temples.
Kalighat one of the most memorable journey visited specially during lockdown. I was the last person of the day who entered in the temple when the gates were about to close. Yeah. It was really amazing when Only me and mata was there. This is one of the 51 Shakti peeth. A must go place.
Kali temple. The sorrounding is very dirty and poorly maintained and there is no system to control the crowd. Even some people pretend and take money from devotees to get entry into the temple.
This place not clean, and the people asking frequently for mantra path, which is unexpected. And the river near the temple is a garbage canal. And I saw people specially women's are soak their legs and pour some water and spreading on to their heads and body which really unhygienic.
Very congested narrow place. Pandas dictate terms & insist to pay heavily to have darshan. Their hatred words R intolerable. It is a curse for Hindus to visit this place.
The place is good and walking distance from KALIGHAT METRO station. As it is is a worship place be care full from PANDA, they are extorting huge money. 500year old place. Worth to visit.
I visit almost everyday to this temple of MAA KALI and it's a very famous temple in India. MAA KALI of Kalighat removes all obstacles from anyone who sincerely prays.
Keep your shoes at the shop where you purchased flowers. The pujaris mislead you saying there will be a rush. Ignore them.it's 10 minutes away walkable distance from Kalighat metro.
I personally didn't like the management of authorities. Local priests were taking money for easy access to temple. Corruption was on the peak. We were in queue for more then 2 hours and authorities were allowing only those who have bribed them with some money.
It is very auspicious place, gets positive vibration once u entered into Maa Kali Mandir. Due to COVID precautions, local regulatory advise to open the Temple in two sessions i.e. Morning 7am to 1pm and Evening 4pm to 8pm For authentic (Puja and showpiece) shopping lover, is best place to Shop. Having various variant in all the category.
Very much congested, dirty place. Too much annoyance (Demand of money for Darshan) by Pandas. Poor temple management. Main temple building looks like unmaintained for ages. State Govt should look into this Holy place.
A very famous and one of the most divine temple of hindu mythology. It is also one of the divine of The 56 places. My personal experience says, you should not take the local pandas as they are thugs, I came to know that many of them are not even real. You will be looted here so beware and dont let the locals loot you. And Saturday is the most busiest day you have to stand in lines for hours the pandas will approach you and say we will let you in soon by taking money (bribe). But dont get yourself involved in those things. Give offering and money only in donation boxes. Have a great visit. Jai maa Kali ️
Temple is good. Devotees are suggested to be aware of money looters. They will loot you. So don't get into there trap. They will come to you and say that there is special line and if you say yes than looting process started and you are in there trap.
Jai Maa Kali Best time to visit is early morning.it will be good if you reach at 6: 00am. Don't get into the hands pandas etc.at the max you might pay them INR 50-100 for VIP Darshan.that's it.
Really experienced wonderful peace and wonderful power to achieve Sankalpa but mother's pundits do not allow me to stand in peace for even two minutes, do this ritual and give so much money, really this practice has to stop and pundits get together and share pandit has to make a living. We traveled 1700 kms and went to pray of Maya Kali but could not sit there in peace for even two minutes.sorry for the mistake but I have written what I feel like improving
Extremely mismanaged! Very chaotic! Panda's are there to rob u in the name of Dharma! People visit temples for mental peace, but after visiting one will be ripped off the peace one still had!
For spirituals people Kalighat is osm for them. Just safe and wear mask always and always take precautions for selecting the pandits if you not take precautions they will loot your all money. Be safe and have fun?
There is no need of rating for this place. This is devine place. I only rated and chooses 4 start because of "Pandas" I.e Pujari they are lootiyans (Asking for money in the name of "Sankalp"). They forcefully ask you for money and the amount they want. So please beware of them.
A very sacred, auspicious, religious place as per hindu religion. Huge number of devotees come here to pay the puja offerings. Good place to visit but the pujaris take undue advantages and demands money which is not at all justified. Also there is no proper parking place available. Hope the cleanliness and crowd management will be improved in upcoming days.
Temple staff and near by shopkeepers always tried to make money only, no proper guide and nothing to service for anyone, only tried to make fool n make more n more money. Be careful against staff and nearby shopkeepers.
Please don't blindly believe in panditts outside the temple. They shows u a identity card and says that "If u directly visit, its takes much more time for dharshan and I will take u nearer to the idol". But it actually takes only 5 to 8min.for dharshan and there is no special dharshan. They are indirectly rob ur money from ur pockets. My suggestion is that just go directly in to the temple for dharshan and save ur money & time. Kalighat temple is one of the shakthipeeth in India. So, If ur going to visit or in the Kolkata definetly make a visit and feel the positive vibes of mahakali. There is also a metro stop here called "kalighat", from there u can visit this temple by walking a kilometer or little more. JAI DURGA BHAVANI! Thank u!
One of the most important shakti peeth of India, this beautiful place is at Kali ghata, Kolkata. Very easily approachable by all means, it is 10 min walking distance from metro center. Temple houses a beautiful deity of Shri Kali Devi. Now devotees can reach sanctum sanctoram and worship easily. Temple is always crowded and vibrant. It's a must visit place for every one of he or she comes to Kolkata for short mission. Pandas or the helpers are nasty and better avoid them, rather fix their fees in very beginning, and this rule is same for Kolkata taxiwalas also! Like all other Hindu shrines of Bengal, this shakti peeth is also grossly neglected by state govt and there is no govt facility or infrastructure or beautification of this very very important temple. Personally, I will catagorize this shrine as not disabled friendly as their is no proper crowd management.
Before coming to visit Kali maa temple pls be aware of pandas and Pandit’s those are all over there. It’s an ancient temple but need cleaning. Every time I have visited and found it same. As Pandit’s and panda’s only try to loot instead of developing the temple. And government is also not doing anything to develop this temple and also Ganga river is too dirty nearby Kalighat. This is a Goddess Kalimata Temple. Kalighat is regarded as one of the 51 Shakti Peethas of India, where the various parts of Sati's body are said to have fallen, in the course of Shiva's Rudra Tandava. Kalighat represents the site where the toes of the right foot of Dakshayani or Sati fell.
Kalighat is also associated with the worship offered to Kali by a Dasanami Monk by name Chowranga Giri, and the Chowringee area of Calcutta is said to have been named after him. Kalimata.
The temple of Kolkata. Small finger of left leg of Goddesses durga has been present their according to Hindu mythology. Who loves Kali Mata obviously will go here. But I don't support the sacrifices of goat or any animal rituals
A popular religious attraction of Kolkata, Kalighat Kali Temple is considered as one of the 52 Shakti Peethas (places where the various parts of Sati's body are believed to have fallen, in the course of Shiva's Rudra Tandava) of India. Kalighat is said to be the site where the toes of the right foot of Sati fell. In earlier years, the image of the deity was incomplete as only the face was constructed. Later on over the years, the hands (made of gold and silver), the tongue and jewellery were added to the idol of goddess Kali.
Kalighat Kali Temple is one of the main religious attractions of the Gangetic state of West Bengal in India. The Kalighat Temple is one of the 51 Shakti Peethas that have scattered all over the Indian sub continent. The Kalighat Temple is situated on the bank of the river Adi Ganga. The Adi Ganga is a canal that is linked with the Bhagirathi Hooghly River. In Indian mythical legends there are various gods and divine beings. For such a reason there are various legends anyway most of these circumnavigates around the Tridevs - Lord Brahma, Lord Vishnu and Lord Shiva.
The essential legend about Lord Shiva is his veneration for Lady Sati and there unending satisfaction of warmth. The story communicates that after the death of Lady Sati the Blue Lord lamented and enraged in this mishap, ravages the earthly stage with a calamitous dance alongside Lady Sati's body scattering it into 51 body parts that spread over the entire Indian sub mainland. Each one of these parts transformed into a wellspring of unadulterated primal energy known as 51 Shakti Peethas and among these places where the tantric power is most noticeable is insinuated as Adi Shakti Peeths according to the Shaktism group. The reason the Kalighat Temple is regarded as a Shakti Peetha because it is believed that the right toe of Lady Sati has fallen in this place.
The place is quite reverential and a pure destination for worship. Devotees from all across the country and abroad come to visit Kalighat Kali temple. The Kalighat Temple was established in the early 1800s temple-wise but the place was worshipped before long back. The temple was founded by eminent personas of that period. Being located in the heart of the city of Kolkata, it is very easy to reach by roadways, railways, waterways and airways.
Well, Its my very first visit to the temple, Idol of Goddess is the only thing found to b in ryt place, other then very thing in the temple seems to b so mess, theres no proper que line to enter, everyone gets in the que however they want n there's no one to ask, u can find more local pandits getting u in to trap of taking u in to temple without any que, n thats totally fake all they need is money, they are worst then the beggars around the temple, so better b carefull with them, Temple is very poorly maintained, doesn't seems to clean n tidy although theres a huge crowd visiting.
Kalighat was a Ghat (landing stage) sacred to Kali on the old course of the Hooghly river (Bhāgirathi) in the city of Calcutta. The name Calcutta is said to have been derived from the word Kalighat. The river over a period of time has moved away from the temple. The temple is now on the banks of a small canal called Ask Ganga which connects to the Hoogly. The Adi Ganga was the original course of the river Hoogly. Hence the name Adi (original) Ganga.
Kalighat Kali Temple is a Hindu temple in Kolkata, West Bengal, India dedicated to the Hindu goddess Kali. It is one of the 51 Shakti Peethas.
Nice place but beware of scammers. Example- at the entrance there will be a bogus warm welcome by a group of so called pandits there will agree you to spend easily around 2-3k. Be aware.
Best place for maa kali devotees, but Pandas just are too much, they should be thrown out so that public can have a delightful darshan. Do not hear the pandas they will just destroy the purpose you go the temple for
For a believer, however it is, will give 5 star rating, for such an ancient and powerful temple. No doubts or questions about the temple or God. Only complaint is regarding cleanliness around the temple and about the dalals/middle men who try to fleece you by promising quick and personalized Darshan. Though they do a great job at it. And they also have to survive and make a living. So. I will let Kali Maa handle it and give the final rating!
Jai maa kali. The kalighat temple is just near kalighat metro station. Very old temple and the atmosphere is also like old times but please be aware of pandas they only try to take cash from you.
Kalighat Kali Temple is a Hindu temple in Kolkata (West Bengal), India dedicated to the Hindu Goddess Kali. It is one of the 51 Shakti Peeths. It is very famous and old temple. Thousands of people come from different parts of India to visit this sacred place.
About the surrounding places.
The temple consists of four areas. First, as you near the temple, there are hundreds of street stalls selling just about every trinket. Sitting or laying in the streets are the old, infirm and lots of garbage giving the street a generally depressed appearance.
Some useful tips before Worship.
Everybody should be cautious about pandas. One can go to the 'Garbhgriha' through a queue without donating money to pandas. Please do not take any kind of help from the pandas, otherwise you will be asked to pay (₹500, ₹1500 or more) for it. If anyone offers worship, flower etc, Please avoid these things and buy directly from vendors.then stand in queue and go to the inner sanctum for worship.

Ancient temple.be aware of Pandas who will try to loot you.took VIP darshan as the queue was very long.no proper crowd management and pathetic level of cleanliness.rats and dogs roaming around in temple.people pushing each other in VIP darshan as well.fortunately my panda was good and he managed to let us have a clear view of sakhtipeeth
Very much congested temple and the line was very very big. All the pandits and people were after us shouting and yelling for god knows what. There were alot of cheaps and tricks in the temple and one should be aware of them.
Maa Kali may forgive me for this review. The Pandas (purohits) see the devotees as their mere customers and try every way to cheatingly find money from them. If one is new and unknowing to their tricks then even 500-600/- could be misleadingly taken, and in every step. The mandir trust doesnt even clean or maintain the temple.other Maa Kali temples in kolkata are far more well maintained and cleaner. The sweet shops are placed inside temple premises itself, which surprised me a lot.
“One of the most religiously significant and historic landmarks of Eastern India. Great place and indeed a very holy one. Had a good experience barring the cheap policy of commercialising everything out there (by the temple people like priests and sometimes also by locals). Need an improvement in priest community in temple. I think people should also improve their own skills. ”
This beautiful Kali temple is situated in kalighat. Aamar maa' er paayer joba hoye othh na phute mon. Jai Ma Kali. Godess Kali is portrayed standing or dancing on her consort god Shiva, who lies calm and prostrate beneath her. Kali is worshipped by Hindus throughout India especially in West Bengal.
A very nice place for Kali mata devotees but it has only one problem and that's a major problem! The Pandas*Baba who preach* they keep on following you. It's irritating at times
Jai Maa. Nothing to say about this temple. It is known to all but one thing is that be careful about the Pandas. There is no need to hire those Pandas.
Its a good place i think you should have to visit atleast one time. Kuch log keh rahe hai ki yha log apke paise chura lenge or bla bla bla. Please ignore him/her that kind Of people हमारे हिन्दी में एक कहावत हैं कि: लोगो का काम है kehna, लोगो को kehne देना Bhai meko to bahut hi peaceful jagah lagi (according to me it's very peaceful place)

People from various regions and states come here to offer prayer to goddess Kali. According to people of Kolkata if you have visited this place once all your wishes will come true. Here sacrifice of billy goat is also given by the devotees.
Jai Maa. Huge Idol Of Maa Kali Sitting On Floor. The Pandits Here Are Very Exploiting, You Need To Be Careful, From The Entrance To Exit The Pandits Try Their Best To Exploit You. Some Pandit Offer You Special Darshan By Paying Rs. 51-101/-. Be Extra Careful To Pandits Inside The Temple, Don't Argue With Them They Can Misbehave With You. Jai Maa
This is my most favorite place, I can feel Maa Kali's presence in her shrine & that feeling can't be expressed in words. It's a very lively place, although the priests have made it a business to hold devotees in long queues for hours to earn huge amount of money from rich visitors who enter through special gate called vip entrance. But meeting Maa means everything.
