Kalikapur Rajbari Complex

I visited this place 3 times and want to visit again. I just love its historical vibe, old structures and mystic atmosphere. Remember to make a visit for sure, specially in Durga pujo. Not adding many pics, visit the place and you will be mesmerized for sure.

A tryst with destiny and history of the golden era of West Bengal. Every single inch speaks of its glorious past. If only it could be preserved.

It's a historical place. For a historical trip you must visit this place. There are two parts of this palace. One part is mostly a destroyed area, in the rainy season it's quite dangerous to visit this place, because of insects. There is a Durga temple in the other part of the palace. You must buy a ticket for rupees 10/- and enter the place. But the process of collecting tickets for this place is quite unorganised. You must carry food and water with you, because there are no shops to buy any food.

The place is good but the care take is a bit harsh and rude.

We went to Kalikapur rajbari few days ago, after reaching the spot, I came to know that videography is not allowed. But it will be allowed if we pay Rs. 1000 per hour.

The localites are not so helping and don't know how to behave with guest coming to see their place.

An annoying experience overall.

The old Rajbari is built by the Zamindar of Gushkara Paramananda Roy. Still now their heirs live in a portion of this building. I personally feel the main attractions of kalikapur Rajbari, Bardhaman are the sunset view from the terrace and the woman statue which seems watching from the window at the backside of the Rajbari. In a few minutes walking distance an old Neel Kuthi is there. Also two shiva temples are there on the left side of the entrance of the Rajbari.

Popular location for shooting, gives a vintage feel. At the same time, it comes to mind that it could have been preserved in a much better way.

Excellent place to visit. Situated within the Kalikapur forest, one may enjoy half a day here. Good time to visit is during the Durgapuja. You can feel the charm of simplicity of the Durgapuja then have an walk in the forest, if lucky, can meet a fox crossing your road.

দারুন সুন্দর জায়গা। দূর্গামন্দির ছাড়া বাকিটা ধ্বংসপ্রাপ্ত। গেটের পাশে মন্দির গুলোতে অসাধারণ টেরাকোটা কাজ করা আছে।

শান্ত গ্রামীণ নির্মল পরিবেশে জঙ্গল কেটে গড়ে তোলা, ৪০০ বছরেরও বেশি পুরনো এই রাজবাড়ী। ভেঙে পড়া দেওয়ালে কান রাখলে শুনতে পাবেন ফিসফিস করে বলা ইতিহাস।

Must visit place for those love heritage of rich bengali culture of kings of past days. Ruins of awesome mighty structures leave you spellbound. Only durga mandir is maintained properly and looks attractive. Parking is no problem. No food is available around. If you don't have own car or two wheelers auto rickshaw / Toto is available from 11 mile bus stop on panagarh - illambazar bus route.

Old heritage building, the majority is in ruins, only some sections are usable, but still an amazing experience. Best for history and heritage building lovers

It is an old zamindar palace currently owned by Partha Sarati Roy. Durga Thakur Dalan Bari and the Rajbari are very big at the back

Historical place but needed maintenance and little advertisement and it could be a tourist spot.you can visit during Puja time it has a protima inside the rajbari.

এটি প্রায় চারশো বছরের পুরনো একটি রাজবাড়ী এটির নির্মাণ হয়েছিল ইংরেজ আমলে‌। তখনকার কালিকাপুর এর জমিদার এখানে থাকতেন। রাজবাড়ির তখন অনেক জৌলুস থাকলেও বর্তমানে তা এখন জীর্ণ হয়ে পড়েছে।তখন রাজবাড়ীতে অনেক কিছু দর্শনীয় থাকলেও এখানকার সব থেকে আকর্ষণীয় জিনিস ছিল দুটি ঝাড়বাতি যেগুলিতে হিরে বসানো ছিল, যার আনুমানিক মূল্য তখনকার বাজারে ছিল প্রায় ১৫ লক্ষ টাকা। তৎকালীন ইংরেজরা জমিদারদের কে এই ঝাড়বাতি দিয়েছিল। রক্ষণাবেক্ষণ এর অভাবে ঝাড়বাতি চুরি হয়ে যায়। এখন শুধুমাত্র পুজো ক'দিন এখানে সেই জমিদারদের বংশধাররা পুজো করেন। আগেকার আচার-অনুষ্ঠান মেনে পুজা হলেও পুজোর চাকচিক্য বর্তমানে কমে এসেছে। পুজোর চারদিন রাজবাড়ী খোলা থাকে।

কয়েকশো বছরের পুরনো দুর্গামন্দির সহ বাসগৃহ, যার বেশিরভাগই খণ্ডহরে পরিণত হয়েছে। সঙ্গে জোড়া শিবমন্দির যা প্রাচীনত্বের সাথে অনন্য শিল্পনৈপুণ্যের পরিচায়ক।

It's a must visit place. Well-known for it's historical importance and the film shoots that take place regularly. Good for a short trip. You can also visit Deul mandir and park which is only 30mins from Kalikapur Rajbari. It's situated in the middle of village and light forest but is absolutely gorgeous.

Famous place where Roy Jamindar used to rule the area. As time flies people use to settled at distance place and heritage start destroying. Place is now famous tourism attractions and attractions of the flim maker.

Need to maintain it. Otherwise next generation will not be able to see such heritage property with terracotta work.

Nice place to visit. A must visit place with friends and family. Visit during durga puja. You can see very nice idol of Goddess Durga in here during durga puja. Bengali film "Durgeshgarer Guptadhan" was shoot in here. It is a heritage place now. A good place for short day trip.

Had a great time exploring this place. The teracotta temple is an excellent piece of Architecture.

Kalikapur rajbari is in Burdwan district. It is almost 40-50 minutes distance from Bolpur Santiniketan by bike or car. This place is a historic heritage. This rajbari is around 400 years old. It is almost abandoned and became a ruin now. Many famous indian film got shot here. Mrinal Sen shot his film 'Khandar', Rituporno Ghosh shot his film 'Arekti Premer Golpo', Aparna Sen shot her famous film 'Goynar Bakso' here. And very recent Bengali movie 'Rosogolla' has been shot here.

The Satmahal Kalikapur Rajbari -built by Parameswar Roy, the dewan of the Burdwan maharaja, for his seven sons -is spread over 400 bighas. Exquisite terracotta work can be seen on the panels of the gates of the rajbari, which is surrounded by Shiva, Kali and Durga temples, apart from a pond and garden. Bengali films have previously been shot at this rajbari, including Aparna Sen’s Goynar "Baksho" and Rituparno Ghosh’s "Noukadubi" and "Arekti premer golpo" Satyajit Ray, Mrinal Sen "Khandar", Amitabha Bachchan -"Teen" and Tarun Majumdar and recently "Rosogolla".

It is my birth place, my home.it is small village and sawrounded by Forrest. The village have approximately 800 people.

It is an ancient heritage place to explore.
History lies here. It's an unknown place in the rural area at Kalikapur Village near Illamambazar (১১ মাইল).
The place is very large but most of it's parts are abandoned due to the damage of the buildings. There are temples inside and outside of the Rajbari complex.
Maa Durga is worshipped here every year.
You can easily spend an hour or more here.

Kalikapur village, 120km north-west of Kolkata, one can take a turn from the Panagarh-Moregram highway and travel for 5km along a read that cuts through a forest. It’s a small village surrounded by jungles. To a stranger this village also came across as any other village in Bengal, where people are mainly farmer. Our destination is Kalikapur Rajbari (Palace) which is a piece of Bengal Heritage was built near about 400yrs ago, now almost the structure of the palace

Built around 400 years ago, this building was once consisted of 7 wings (Sat Mahala). Now in ruins, some of the front portion is inhabited by the kins of the then Zamindars. Every year Durga Pujo is held here. The location was used for many Bengali films, namely the Superhit GUPTODHONER SONDHANE starring Abir. Also GOYNAR BAKSHO is also shot over here. A very picturesque place. If you want a piece of adventure, you can visit the back wings of the Rajbari. But be very careful as most of the building is in very bad condition.

It's the ruin of a previous Jomidaar Palace. If somebody says History can't be enchanting.take them to this place. This place stands for the timee when we were not there.but a different socio-culture was goin on. You can see that from the texture of the Bricks, architectures. A happy outing in a two-hour car ride from Kolkata. A place worth visiting!
Lots of Bengali movies and serials are shot in this area.

Cross the Ajay Bridge, 16km away from Bolpur Town and 1km from Illambazar then take a left turn (after 3-4km from the bridge towards panagarh) into the 11mile jungle road, then take the first left turn through the red earth road- drive for 1-2km and you are ready to dive into history. The age old grand palace standing in front of you in almost ruined state still carries the glory and luxurious life lead by the Zaminder of Kalikapur under King of Burdwan. If you are a explorer it will surely catch your attention. Visit it and don't forget to watch the false window with a statue peeping through seemingly sculptured with a foresee that someday the palace will be abandoned and there will be no one to entertain guests. The statue will work then. Very nostalgic.

Wonderful historical place in outskirts of Kolkata. 3hr drive from Kolkata on durgapur expressway near guskara in burdwan.

I was there in durga puja. Must go there, some bengali films were also shoot there.
You can't go inside the rajbari during normal days.

Very unknown place in the rural area. But outstanding area to hangout or recall history. It has a great story in it. If you are a explorer you must visit this place.

A great historical landmak. The palace is very large in size. But most of the part of it is abandoned. But in some place people lives. There are some temples in it. Architechtural work of the palace is amazing. This is a good place to bring your kid to grow the interest on local history.
