Kolakham - The Himalayan Retreat

The greatest thing about this homestay is the warm and caring behavior. They treat you like family members, and the whole staff is very helpful and smiling. The decorations are so artistic, and food is yummy. Amazing 360-degree views of valley and Mt Kangchenjunga

The Himalayan Retreat is the best place to stay in Kolakham. The best thing of the hotel is it's location. The rooftop of the dining place provides a 360 degree view of the silent valley. The view of Kanchanjunga through the valley is awesome.
The sitting arrangement of the dining place is very nice with good decoration - one can have a good view of the surroundings from here also.
Overall the whole property is very well decorated, colourful, neat and clean.
The property is very near to changey falls - within walking distance. One can also go for Village treck and see beautiful flowers and vegetables plantation.
The option of food choice was limited, but whatever food was served, was very tasty and fresh, produced locally.
Definitely I will come back here with my family for a longer duration stay.

It was a very nice choice to stay at Himalayan Retreat. We had a nice experience will staying at the homestay.
The property is very well decorated, you can also buy things from the shop which is open at evening. But the food experience was decent because whenever we want to order something from there menu they were not able to provide and the food taste was average.

What an amazing time to be alive! Visiting The Himalayan ReTreat in Kolakham with family.was an absolute delight! At this place you are in mother nature's lap. Technically and artistically made property where you have a little art room for the little painter in all of us. Hawa Ghar let's you have a 360° view of the entire village. A kitchen garden catering to their vegetable needs. You can see Lying Buddha on a clear day. They have got a wide selection of plants and saplings for you to see and feel.and if you like one.you can purchase it from their self help ladies team.
Not to forget their aesthetically upkept spacious rooms.
For your meals.their lovely kitchen has almost everything to satisfy your palette. Scrumptious food.

I have no words to describe how amazing this property is and nothing is too much for the host. We made an early arrival and were received with a warm welcome. We made the choice to have tea while sitting on the terrace. The views are breathtaking and seem to go on forever. Despite the fact that the views are lovely from every part of the house, their patio deserves special attention. A large, circular platform in the middle of a valley with views of Kanchanjunga, rivers, waterfalls, and mountains. The "Sevani" bedroom, where we slept, was lovely, and the bed was incredibly cosy. The property offers so much… plants nursery, art study, local costumes, musical instruments, fish pond, garden, salon and yummy food, opportunity for riverside picnic or breakfast, village tour. We stayed for 2 nights and left with a feeling that we should have booked for longer duration. Not to miss is the in-house souvenir shop. 100% recommended for a 3-4 days’ vacation in the hills

The property's location is ideal, offering stunning views of Mt. Kanchanjunga from everywhere inside the property, including the dining room, garden, terrace, and rooms. The beds were comfortable, and the rooms are spacious. And the greatest part is that the restrooms are pleasant and clean and have plenty of hot water pouring from centralized geysers, which is uncommon in highlands. Beautiful, satisfying meal in the morning. Amazing and enormous plant collection at the nursery and yard. A dedicated space where art is created, musical instruments, local costumes, salon inside a walled compound with 24/7 CCTV surveillance. In the future, we intend to return and stay for a longer duration as they arrange for riverside picnics also which we missed this time.

Sandeep is the most incredible of humans we have met so far in India.
After arriving at his Homestay late in the evening in our rickshaw (see photo attached) he told us there were no rooms left, but it’s too late to leave as there are wild bears on the road back out.
So be and his wonderful staff called around the whole area and found us a room for the night. He made us tea and is cooking us dinner.
The Homestay is extremely clean and tidy, the views are literally the best we have seen through India to date, and the hospitality is probably the best I have ever experienced.
I cannot recommend The Himalayan Retreat enough. Just make sure you book in advance and not just expect a room as we did.

My experience at The Himalayan Retreat was absolutely wonderful, and something I'll remember for many years to come. Each of the staff was incredibly kind and welcoming, and they all went out of their way to accommodate us. The property itself is also spectacular. Highly recommended!

The property is really beautiful with it's serene location & the gorgeous garden having various flowers & orchids. The rooms & bathroom were clean & enough spacious for 3. The beds were comfortable & good. The staff & manager was very cordial, helpful & listened to all our requests. Overall we really enjoyed the stay. The food bill was a little high but that's fine considering the hard effort they need to get things there. It's only a 25 min walk to Changay Falls so that's very convenient.

আমরা কোলকাতা থেকে 20 জন মতো গেছিলাম এই February 2023 তে, location দারুন একদম শান্ত জায়গা, আশেপাশে কোনো কিছু নেই disturb করার মতো। Hotel এ একটাই সমস্যা সেটা হলো গরম জল সমসময় available থাকে না।

I have been travelling the hills of North Bengal for as long as I can remember. Staying at the Himalayan Retreat was a completely different experience altogether. I can bet you can't find any other property with such a scenic location, great host, amazing food, so many activities and engagements that come as a package, and on top of that, an overall top tier experience.
I plan to come here one more time now for a staycation. This place serves as a breath of fresh air and a much needed quality social-disconnect. Loved it.

It is indeed a memorable trip. The host, manager and all the supporting staffs are excellent. The mesmerizing view from the terrace, the garden, the srijani shop, the art gallery, the nursery, the hygienic food and above all the hospitality shall be cherished long. My children were crying after leaving this place and forced me to promise them for another trip here. A must visit spot definitely.

Warm and welcoming staff, good food, perfect location, away from the chaos of city life, loved the gift shop. They have many walking trails in and around the property.

This property made us fall in love with Kolakham. This property has everything, you will feel like you are the luckiest one. They have good view from the rooms and when you come up at deck that was awesome addon in this property. You can see entire landscape of valley which has a river, waterfall, range of peaks and Mt. Kanchanjunga. A lot of activities to do… art, plants, music, campfire. Recommended stay for 2 or more days.

It was an amazing stay…. Beautifully managed…great view from property…all the staffs were very co operative…food was also nice…although its a home stay but it is maintained like a resort…will surely recommend to others.

The Himalayan Retreat is an amazing and fabulous property beyond the highest level of expectations. The staff is really friendly and sweet who left no stone unturned in providing a 5-star experience. Our 4 days stay was a heavenly experience. Even if there were any flaws, I will choose to ignore those and focus only on the many positives that this place has to offer. The view from rooms was breathtaking and each day that I woke up, it totally proved how amazing mountain mornings can be. All thanks to the amazing location of this place.
The food cooked here is delicious and is another point which makes it a perfectly perfect choice. The provision of taking customers for morning walks and village treks is one better thing about this place. The guide who assisted us during the walk is really sweet and keeps their attention hooked by telling them about the properties of different plants and trees that grow on the mountains. Overall, an amazing place in every aspect that one can imagine. A TOTAL recommend from my side and your stay here will for sure make your trip to kolakham a far more memorable one than what you had ever imagined.

A must visit if you want to take a break and away from your daily city hustle bustle and enjoy pure serene beauty. Icing on the cake is great food and the humble hospitality by the owner Mr. Sehgal and his dedicated team. We will surely visit again and this time for a longer stay.

The place is very nice and surrounded by hills. The road is ups and downs and pass through the Neora Valley Forest. In the above, there are many home stay in the surrounding area. Also the home made service is very good in the home stay. From this cottages, the whole area is visible and also Kanchanjangha is visible in good weather obviously.

It is difficult to find a good quality place to relax which is also pet friendly for a weekend getaway with the entire family. We enjoyed our stay with great services and relished delicious food.
The place is a must visit for people who are looking for peace and spending time in lap of nature. A great team led by Mr Sandeep Kumar Sehgal, who go out of their way to make people comfortable and at home. Property is newly constructed, well maintained and clean, surrounded by hills and beautiful landscape.

Wow.what a view. Great Hospitality. The owner provided me with his binoculars also to admire the scenic beauty. The best part was *Changey Waterfall* at a walk able distance of less than 1KM. Don't have words to describe the package. Only Wow.

What a view from the entire property... Rooms, Hawaghar, Café, Pot Studio – You can see Mt. Kanchenjunga from each corner. The lawns are beautifully managed with added attraction of their café with fireplace and karaoke. The view is breathtaking and their hospitality and welcome is awesome. Great food, plus they provide a very homely service.

Beautiful view inside dense forest and extravagant mountain view. Rooms are good but need more light and a lack of amenities like TV, desk, etc. This is a zero emmison property as it has off grid solar system.
Overall very good experience and recommend everyone to stay here.

The property has many options to engage guests and to further this facility, my suggestion is they should arrange events to create opportunity for guests to engage with each other. Like live music with snacks and tea, group games in evenings to add more vibrancy in the lively evenings. Good family restaurant and a patio with spacious area for kids to play. The staff is extremely friendly and talented. Seems like everyone in Kolakham sings and play guitar… All the best to the team, keep up the good work.

Our stay for two days in Kolakham - The Himalayan Resort was a beautiful experience. Each and every thing out there refreshed our busy minds and we relished those moments to the fullest.

The staff is friendly and efficient. This place is much picturesque than shown on facebook. Best location at the mountain, spacious area for kids to play, tasty food with campfire and barbeque, CCTV surveillance and gated premise. Drivable roads and also enjoy trek from farm house to Changey Waterfall. Very close to the river where we’ve spent some time and we loved it. The route to premises passes through Neora Valley National Park and around 4-5 Kilometer road is rough and not carpeted, but it’s motor able – expect some adventure driving through the forest.

Great property near Changi falls with scenic beauty and excellent facilities to stay at! Had an excellent experience
