Khedu Shaw started this establishment in 1918. Yes, Kolkata was different back then. The freedom movement was at the peak and this shop was known to be the den for information exchange. While many would think that people were having their evening adda with telebhaja from this place, the freedom fighters exchanged information. And it was during that period, Mr. Shaw first met Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose. He was so much impressed by the personality, that still today, Lakshmi Narayan Shaw distributes telebhaja free of cost on 23rd January each year- on the birthday of Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose, a practice started from 1942. Even today, many locals refer to this shop and its fritters as Netaji r peyaji.

Telebhaja, or fritters, is anything quoted in Besan and deep-fried. It can be boiled potato mashed with spices for aloo chop or sliced onion as peyaji. The besan batter is generally spiced with nigella and seasoning. Items are dipped in it and deep-fried. Voila, the magical evening snacks for Kolkata is born. But the thing is not that simple at Lakshmi Narayan Shaw.they have many varieties. In fact, some of their most loved items are quite unique. For example, the aamer chop (made with seasonal raw mango to impart the tangy flavor) and soyabean cutlet are quite famous.

I have been hearing for a long time about this 103-year-old Laxmi Narayan Saw chop shop whose mango chop in Kolkata is famous and whose taste has not changed in 103 years.
You have to be patient with the line and then you will get all the famous delicious chops.
Don't forget to try the mango paste. With one bite I understood why it is so famous.

The famous all types of choper dokaan is here. They are serving since the year 1918 and people say this was a favourite shop of none other than Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose. They have more than 15 types of chops and among them aamer chop is their identity. I tried aamer chop, kashmiri chop and paneer chop. Kashmiri chop was not upto the mark but rest were fantastic. Excellent place for snacking. The telebhajas are lip smacking. Also the papris, gathiyas, aloo chips and the cornflakes chanachur are absolutely amazing.

Have been wanting to go back here for years and finally I did.
They didn't have the legendary Fuluri when I reached but they did have hot Beguni's being friend.
Though everything is deep friend in oil but when you eat them you realise thay oil is not dripping from them and they have been strained very well after coming out of the frying pan.
Spice level is just for adding flavour & not over the top as is the case with most joints these days.
Apart from this you can also buy various types of packed namkeen which are equally good with not too much salt in them and no smell of oil or grease.

This legendary place deserves no less than 5 stars. Located at Hedua Laxmi Narayan Shaw serves one of the freshest telebhajas of Kolkata. The historical connection during the pre independence days with our Netaji adds the major feather in its crown. Hospitality is nice and the snacks are exceptionally Tasty causing no problem in digestion. One can try the Capsicum Chop, Dhoka er Barfi, Aamer chop and Mochar chop there.

This place is awesome, you get all type of chops here. Their Piyaji is very famous, many people use to come here regularly to taste the flavors, even if I visit here I use to eat 3-4 chops here including the famous piyaji.

It is one of the legendary vegetarian pakoda shops of North Kolkata. They have a story that Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose jsed to enjoy eating their pakodas and the owners distribute free pakodas on the birthday of Netani even till present times. They use fresh oils daily and as such you will never experience indigestion after eating their pamodas. They sell a variety of pakodas like alur chop, beguni, amer chop, soyabean er chop, piyanji, vegetable chop etc etc. Pl see the menu for their variety on offer.

Very old corner. Many eminent personalities of yester years, used to visit this shop to enjoy ' Televajas'-snacks fried with mustered oil.

Just love the chops & cutlets whatever is available. Everything is fresh. Acceptable & loved by all ages. Whenever I go near it at least for one time I like to eat this.

Though there is no sitting arrangement, still it could not stop people from gathering here to have their favourite televajas and chops. Visited this place numerous times, my all time favourites are the aloor chop, peyaji, soybean er chop, aam er chop. This place is highly recommended from my side. A must visit place for every food enthusiasts.

On Netaji's birthday they provide free snacks to everyone on that day they do some sort of donations to the street people and all other people who join the queue for the snacks collection.
