A palace looks beautiful from outside situated in small town Mahishadal in Midnapore district. The place got rich cultural history and also well known for its Rath Yatra. The palace got some display rooms in ground floor as well as recently housing some guests as a heritage guest house. General visit ticket 20/- parking 20/- (effective 1st October 2023) Some negative points:
-upkeep of the inside exhibits and the palace itself is not very high. -behaviour of the caretakers very rude -you have to enter inside barefoot while caretakers, hotel guests will remain with shoes, this is a hygiene issue -there is a small notice prohibiting photography inside rooms, based on that they will shout at you for clicking photographs anywhere within the campus
Overall the staffs /caretakers themselves think as king and all visitors as their subordinates, so not advisable to visit.
I am a very frequent traveler in India, never experienced such rude behaviour anywhere.
I recently had the pleasure of experiencing a staycation at Mahishadal Rajbari, and it was truly a remarkable retreat!
From the moment I arrived, the historic charm of the Rajbari captivated me. The architecture and interiors beautifully showcase the rich cultural heritage of Bengal. Each room was like stepping back in time with its antique furnishings and exquisite detailing.
The staff here is incredibly welcoming and hospitable. They went above and beyond to ensure my stay was comfortable and enjoyable. I especially appreciated their knowledge about the history of the place, which added depth to the experience.
The highlight for me was the tranquil surroundings. The gardens are a sanctuary of peace, and the majestic Ganges River nearby adds to the serenity. It's the perfect place to unwind and escape the hustle and bustle of city life.
The meals served were a delightful culinary journey, with authentic Bengali dishes that were both flavorful and memorable.
I highly recommend Mahishadal Rajbari for anyone seeking a unique and cultural staycation experience. It's a hidden gem that provides a glimpse into the opulence of a bygone era while offering modern comforts. I can't wait to return for another visit!

July 2023 ticket price is 15 rupees per person if you have bike or 4 wheeler it may charge more amount. You can also book rooms in rajbari to stay it is available online and offline. Rajbari is maintained nicely. It is not far away from one of the shaktipeeth in tamluk Bargabhima temple.
HERITAGE OF BENGAL MAHISADAL RAJBARI situation at Purba Medinipur district.almost 3 hours+ long drive from Kolkata. Inside the Rajbari there is a museum (around 30mins tour). Outside the place there is a large garden with beautiful scenic view, chairs and tables. The timing of the museum in the rajbari is around 10AM TO 6.00 OR 6.30PM. Ticket prices per person is around 10rs per head. There is a small cafe outside the main Rajbari. A gate also connects the Rajbari with the natmandir and there is a beautiful waterside there. On rainy days roads to the pond and natmandir becomes thrilling. However, entrace road to this Rajbari is quite narrow and ofen there gets a traffic jam on weekends. But people visiting kolaghat or near purba mednipur shall once visit this rajbari for a day-tour. Unlike other Rajbari It is well maintained till now.
Three to four rooms were allowed to visit where a) some old sofas, table chairs;b) stuffed bodies of deets, tigers, crocodiles, bears etc, c) swords, musical instruments are kept. Owners live on upper floors when they visit this palace. It is famous for the Rathayatra festival and Durga Puja festival.
I have visited there with scooty, we went there from Kolkta. This is a nice place for one day hangout. We saw there a small garden full of tree. We have done a small picnic there.
This is 'rajar gorh' (the fort of the king). Entrance here is free of cost. But there may be fee in 'RajBari' (the house of the king) which is nearby it.
Coming to the Rajbari for the first time I liked it a lot. Feel refreshed from the trip. The roads and gardens around the rajbari needs proper maintenance. Good for a short visit.
Its a wonderful place to visit. Well maintained. Surrounding views are awesome.full of greenary and the palace. Everyone one should visit at least once.
It's a great place for weekend Destination. Can visit this place with family and friends. Kids will definitely love this place. Historical place with great room, Ambience and hospitality. There is also an old durga temple inside the palace.
This is a heritage site of Mahishadal. Many many historical facts and matters are yet to be revealed. There are plenty of space here. But more care should take to beautify and for conservation of nature.
A Very famous King's Palace in Purba Medinipur (East Midnapore). This palace belongs to the Royal Family Of Garg. It is now undertaken by Government of India. This place also has Museum of Weapons, Stuffed Animal showcase. To reach this place, You have take NH-41 towards Haldia. Then you have to turn left from Brajalal-Chowk more. This place offers parking lot, Picnic spot, boating, fishing and many more activities. The details about Royal Family is described in pictures.
We visited here on our Sunday Ride with Bonkers on Wheels. The whether was extreme on that day and it was raining cats and dogs. We managed to reach at the destination and ride was worth doing. This Rajbari is located at the outskirts of Mahishadal, little outside of the main market area.
They reserved most of the heritage things which tells the story of their history. Starting from their musical instruments, gym equipments, sofas, beds, hunting equipments, weapons etc.you can see and experience here.
Just a one thing which felt that maintenance of this type of heritage palace can be much better, most of the things are getting rusty and dusty, it is not well maintained.
Anyway this Rajbari worth a visit for those who wants to know more about history.
What a amazing historical place, everyone should visit in this place those who love historical place, you can't take phone under the corridor, entry fee 15+ rs 5 for parking, maintenance of this place is not enough,
Heard earlier, now visited. Visiting the surrounding as planned. Missing may be a loss for any one, who likes to have such palace, having experience to see others!
A great historical location, which is not much known.beautiful museum, and a treasure trove of cultural and historical facts. A must visit for all history enthusiasts and the general population as well.
Such a great place to relax your mind. Nd have a Historical Museum in side of the main Palace Nd also a very good nature view for life time experience. Good for couple spend some time without anyone nock. So if you thought you came to. We are hare to welcome you
Okay okay to visit. Can spend half an hour here if not going for picnic. It's home of the king of Mahishadal. Some parts of the house are closed for visitors.
Mahishadal Rajbari My constant pull towards the place where history is involved. So this time our weekend destination was Mahishadal Rajbari.
In the sixteenth century, Shri Janardhan Upadhyaya Gorg built a huge estate here. Although about seven men like the people there before. They have been living in that place since then.
The old palace was built in the eighteenth century and the new palace in the nineteenth century. The houses are on the ground floor of the new palace. On the second floor Their descendants come from time to time. But confusing Bawali or Itachuna with this palace will not work at once.
It is not as well maintained as the above places. In many places, floor tiles are broken, dust is scattered, and broken furniture is everywhere.
One of the major reasons for this is the lack of resources. Everything here speaks of the old days, of what was before but lost in the rules of time. However, the houses are quite Clean and tidy, the food is of good quality and the price is reasonable.
This means they have done as much as possible in limited resources. A museum in the palace Where there is storage of used furniture, weapons, hunted animals etc. Photos from the museum are not allowed, so there are no photos. At the back of the palace there are some broken houses, a pond and a temple.
Driving distance & time: 110km, ~ 2.5 hours Room rent - 3 double bed room for 8k (inc. Breakfast) 1 double bed room for 5k (inc. Breakfast) Food cost ~ - 1k / person for lunch and dinner
Good place to spend half a day. Museum needs more maintenance and preservation. Recently opened guest house facility if you want to stay at the palace.

If you want to spend some quality time in a noise free atmosphere with a nostalgic Indian historical touch, then go for it. Don't miss the divine temple of "Shree Gopal Jiu".
This place is a witness of Bengal's rich history. There is a museum inside the Palace. There are rooms for weapons, stuffed animals that were hunted by the Rajas, and old age paintings and furnitures, and musical instruments. There is also a Canon infront of the Palace. The front area is a big one, you can have a small PICNIC here, and on the other side there is a small hill. The whole place is great for a short ride and the place is perfect for photos. Ample of space and area to play around.
Not so much attractive. It's quite dull. Museum is also not so good. Quality of food is worse. Overall don't add it in your bucket list. Rooms tariff are expensive than service. Bad experience.
We had gone to this place to shoot for our pre-wedding. It was really awesome and at a minimal amount of money. It was really worth the journey and everything!
Rajbari houses a museum at the ground floor. The museum showcases the weapons, musical instruments and many other artifacts used by the then Maharaja's
It's a historical place. Any one can find a museum here for which you have to spend only Rs. 10. You can also see Mahisadal Rathyatra in Mahisadal. Nearest railway station is Satish Samanta halt, which is also very beautiful station for art.
For a 10 rupees nominal charge, you can roam around in the rooms in the ground floor of the building. You can also enjoy in the extensive lawns around the place!
I just visited this place for my pre wedding shot today.what a horrible experience i had.be.i tried to contact the owner and got his no via e mail.he might be the manager of the huge property.first he asked for 3000 rupees for the permission of pre wedding shot.then he told us to contact before visiting the place. We called him before 2 days of the day we decided to go for the shoot.he immediately denied that he asked for 3k.he kept on insisting his point that he adked for 5k instead.still he assured that he will try his best to reduce the amount.we reached the place and handed them 3k.then we began our pre wedding shot.we were followed by numerous people throughout.they didnt allow use to go upstairs.they gave us a shabby room where servants stay for changing clothes.the worst part is a person over there kept threatening us throughout.he kept on disturbing us with his filthy words like chobi shob delete kor.upor a jaabi shokh koto a toh vabnar baire.then we thought of calling the manager again and he started denying the facts again.he never mentioned which places we are allowed for shoot.i booked the whole place at 4k.then he instructed his workers not to allow us in 70 % of the property.he was not even ready to return us the money.we came back dissatisfied.basically it was a trap for us.the manager only solicits money hereby hook and crook
Good place. Small museum available. Ticket price 10 INR. Photography/videography charge 40000 INR per day. Afternoon is the best time. Photo, old used thing available. Skin of dear, bear, tiger are stored. Old weapons are stored.
