Muscatel Himalayan Resort

I wanted to express my sincere appreciation for the outstanding service provided by your representative, Ujwal Rai, during my recent stay at your hotel. Ujwal's professionalism, attentiveness, and friendly demeanor significantly contributed to making my experience truly memorable.

From the moment I arrived, Ujwal went above and beyond to ensure that all my needs were met. His knowledge of the hotel's amenities and the local area, coupled with his willingness to assist with any inquiries, made my stay exceptionally enjoyable.

I commend Ujwal Rai for his commitment to excellence and exceptional customer service. It is representatives like him that set Hotel Muscatel Himalayan apart, and I look forward to returning for another delightful stay in the future.

Our 5 day stay in this hotel was marred by several bad experiences. Rooms are sub par and I don't know who gets the rooms they show in their pictures because we booked 3 rooms and none of those rooms were like the ones in the picture. Half the basic appliances in their rooms do not work.

The worst part of our stay was the bed. The mattresses were so bad that it gave all of us severe back aches. More so, because of our duration of stay was long.

Food was extremely shoddy and overpriced. They had over-billed us on some of the food items and when we mentioned it to them, they did not take it well. Nobody even helped us with our luggages at the time of check out.

We have taken several trips and stayed at various hotels but nowhere were we treated this way. We have fond memories of all our travels. But this hotel ruined the trip with our extended family.

In my opinion it was not at all worth the climb.

So we checked in and was given the worst possible room (other rooms were quite good).
I will not call it a 4star hotel. The receptionists don't know anything, for a first time visiter it is not helpful at all.
The slope to the hotel is extremely steep, and thet do not provide any bellboy or any help to get the bags upstair.
My stay here was not very great and I will definately not book this resort/hotel again.

Apart from this the hotel is 'ok'

Wonderful hospitality. Binod bhai was very kind and he helped me in everything, he made my trip memorable and he’s very down to earth. Next time if I’m visiting Darjeeling I will gonna stay in muscatel. Thank you Binod bhai.

The rooms, decor, and ambience is very good. Location also great except there is a steep climb near Sinclairs. However, the hotel was maintained by Summit and recently taken by Muscatel. The owner lives right in the property and she has several rules. The management is too scared to solve the issues of the guests if the owner is not pleased. They won't allow you to stay in the rooftop 1 min beyond the time limit. A staff misbehaved with us and they are not even scared of reviews. Do visit if you want an unriendly cat roaming in the common area and pouncing on you and no staff can do anything because it is the owner's pet. Unless you are getting a good deal, not recommended for stay.

Nice hotel. Seriously this is my 3rd visit at Darjeeling but this is the first time I stayed at beautiful hotel. Must visit if you are young and don't have heart problem because the only problem is entrance of the hotel. It's too much inclined.

Not a great experience. It has a very steep entry. Didn't find friendly gesture. No balcony. No good tv. Leakage in the bathroom. No proper solution provided by the hotel. Please don't waste money in this hotel

Well no doubt, the resort ambience is awesome!
Pros:
1. Beautiful wooden rooms
2. Beautiful view from rooms
3. Absolutely neat and tidy
4. Staffs well behaved
5. Good room service
6. Well decorated, aesthetic resort
7. +Sundeck+ at the resort top.

Cons:
1. The pathway to the resort is a narrow, one way, steep hilly road. It becomes the major negative point for the resort. One visiting with elderly person can face problem going in and out the resort. Even though the Darjeeling mall road is 500ms away, it is side one way road, where even cars cannot go. (Might charge you hefty if they go).
2. map location is incorrect. Please check before visiting. Or ask the hotel staff.
3. Costly breakfast. Charged us 100rs.for 2 slice of bread omelette and 140rs for 4piece Puri and Sabji.

Apart from this, the view from the resort has the plus point.
There is a cute cat in the resort accompanying you always.

Overall, It was a good stay.

I would have rated the place 4 star on the basis of its pros like courteous service and provision of good basic amenities. But there were a few cons that were not anticipated and cannot be ignored. One was the steep incline to the hotel on which we had to climb with all our luggage because we could not contact hotel reception (the contact in Google is that of a different Muscatel hotel). The second was the damp and musty feel in our ground floor room with no view at all (there's only one room per floor with mountain view, which you would have to be very lucky to get!) Also, the Sun Deck, which is a major attraction of the hotel was closed to the public. However, experience in terms of cleanliness and staff service was commendable!

Very steep entrance because of which its very difficult to find Taxi that would pickup or drop till hotel.
Staff is courteous and very good.
Sundeck is best place in entire hotel.
Rooms are having dim light and wooden floor kept rooms warm.
Our room floor was making squeeze sound each time we walk, that was very irritating. Not all rooms are having this problem.
Food at restaurant was very good and reasonable price.

Never seen such a bad hotel.
The treatment is not good.
Foods are good too.
They dont know how to speak with the coustomers.
Please improve your language and hotel manager please teach the staff how to treat with coustomers

Overall, it was quite a good experience.
The Hospitality by the Staff was at par.
We stayed at the Hotel near September end.
The Rooftop was something which we enjoyed a lot. As it wasn't a peak time, we had our Breakfast and Dinner there enjoying the Mountain view from the Rooftop.
It was all Possible by "Bipan"-Staff at the Hotel. Kudos to Him.
Just one thing to note: You will have to walk steep towards the Hotel for 3 to 4 mins. After all the Hardwork, the stay is all worth it.

The Hotel facilities are Good and Budget friendly. 5/5 for it.

The hotel location is also good nearby market 4/5 for it but view from hotel is not good so -1 for it.

The real problem is, if you have old people with you they can face problems to reach at hotel due to its steep slope.

If you have a Big car let's say Innova there is no facilities to reverse it, you go Upside of slope you need extremely skilled driver who can come down in reverse.

If you are driving car by own self in that case this hotel parking is not good choice at all.
Even if you hired a big car its not a good choice to go there.

If you are on foot and young or have a bike then this hotel is good choice for sure.

The hotel is operating illegally. When I asked for a GST bill they couldn’t not even provide a proper invoice. They printed out a sheet of paper with no invoice number or GST number after levying a 5% GST on the room charges. The didn’t provide breakfast even after I had paid for it in advance. The room was in a very decrepit state. The WiFi, A/C did not work.
Avoid this place like the plague.

Best Resort I have visited so far. All the staff specifically Binod ji and Bipin has very good behavior. All staff are very helpful. Food is very good both veg and non veg options are available.
I will visit again.

The Hotel is very good with very polite and helpful staff, specially Receptionist Suraj & in room service Vinod and Bipan were very nice, cooperative and did their job perfectly. They are very hard working and their behaviour made the stay at Darjeeling in general and at Hotel in particular very memorable. I would always suggest to stay here if you are visiting Darjeeling. View from room is awesome, you will fall in love with the hills for sure.

The hotel is located approximately 15 mins walking distance from mall road.the only cons of the location is the road is a bit steep for walk. The interiors of the hotel is amazing and the staffs are really helpful. The view from their terrace is so beautiful. Rooms are very spacious. We enjoyed every bit of staying there

Best hotel, staff was very polite they will always maintain a beautiful smile. Seeing the mountains from sundeck was memorable, rooms are spacious and decorated, food was nice, but very limited options, only cons is hotel is at steep height, which is away from traffic and noise,

Peace and calm location

Room rate was reasonable considering lockdown restrictions/protocols.
The room interior nice and warm. However the floor planks moves and makes squeak noise a lot.
Nice staff and good food. Nice space to sit / relax and enjoy couple drinks at the terrace.
Overall it was good experience and a stay tucked at the corner of the city.

Actually this hotel was not good and staff's are also not good accept housekeeping was very good and so i din't like this hotel and rooms are also not good food is also not good specially front office staff don't no how to speak

Where do i start?

The View -
The rooms have windows so technically there IS one.
What is the view? (I’m so glad you asked)
From room 101, on one side, there are buildings approximately 30 ft away. (If you strain your can see clouds behind them, between the concrete walls.
Perhaps there are mountains to be seen if the weather was clearer. Does 10% scenery behind a block of flats count as a view?)

After arguing the case for a ‘view’, we were offered room 108, which has a more open aspect on one side.

On the other side however, there is a building site. More of an open pit, in fact, and seemingly still being excavated. Strangely the excavations start using a JCB at 8 PM. 20 ft from the bedroom windows. (Note - other rooms may be available. Just not tonight). On asking why the excavations were ongoing at 930PM, I was advised they would ONLY continue til 11PM.
NB - I asked why it wasn’t mentioned when booking that we would be practically sharing a room with industrial machinery late at night. Answer - “that’s another property Sir. Not us. ” (I interpret this as. “We think so little of our guests we will charge full price and hide this from them until it’s too late. ” (Yes - HIDE. This is reasonable and relevant information for customers to know. The hotel is not double glazed and the noise is VERY loud. It’s sort of relevant to your customers)

Oh yes - I also asked why they can’t work during the day and got told it’s because of crowds. On a building site. In the mud. (There was an apparently homeless person picking through rubble when we arrived. Maybe 1 is a crowd in Darjeeling?)
(NB - the homeless guy was back at 0730. No one else was seen In the vicinity. Crowds?)

The Shower - cold water is a trickle.
Hot water is a torrent! Unfortunately from an electric hot water heater that pumps out superheated steam. This overwhelms the pitiful cold water stream and immediately scalds.

Micro movements of the hot tap enable approximately 1.2 seconds of survivable warmth in between freezing cold, and ‘kettle’.

Ooh - I almost forgot. Another feature of the water boiler is that it drips. From the hot side. At what feels like about 98C. Right where your butt is when you try and avoid being scalded or frozen by the actual shower head. (Ouch, and very close to blisters)

Remaining in the bathroom, the toilet decided to flush in the middle of the night and refused to stop - at all, so we also had to share the room with loud running water noises. (Thankfully the JCB did shut down around midnight.)

The “Restaurant”
So maybe this is a local strangeness, but what restaurant does not serve drinks of any sort other than water?
I’m not talking a typical ‘dry’ restaurant here. No drinks whatsoever apart from water.
Can this even be commercially viable?
My limited understanding of the restaurant trade has always led me to believe that beverages where by far the most profitable part of the business.

Other than the dearth of drinks you can have rice, a starter of French fries, a side of chicken curry or chicken in garlic, and a main dish of papads. (I swear that is what the menu says). On ordering a meal of rice and chicken in garlic we are told this is plenty for two. It is not, unless perhaps as a mid afternoon snack to share.
Oh - you could have a bread omelette (?) instead if that tickles your fancy.

Staff -
The daytime staff are not particularly pleasant and initially lied about availability of an alternate room (the first was larger, but had an even less scenic view of the same outlook from the ground floor).
The evening receptionist at least tried to help me understand by explaining the ‘crowds’ problem. I did not understand, and given I had seen the empty building site earlier in the day then felt lied to once again.

Now the difficult bit is done, the rooms are reasonable. The bed comfy. I didn’t try the TV. Limited clothes space (1 wardrobe including a hanging rail and one shelf).

A good resort to stay, spacious rooms, surrounded by trees all around, staffs are very helpful, kid's play area included with toys, roof access to guests, a wooden library in between the stairs.
The food of the resort is very tasty and healthy.

Just a wow place, Staffs are very polite and decent. Specially Vinod Uncle, Santosh, Housekeeping girls and receptionist. They are superb. Rooms are good, views are good. Roof is superb. Just a wow experience. We will visit again and again.

25 year after I went Darjeeling, what a hotel, just for excellent, Lovely ambience, excellent facilities. All staff was very courteous and humble. The rooms are made of pure wood, very clean every hotel corner.hotel restaurant also very very good.
Again I will visit this hotel with my family.

Awesome location, absolute pleasant and clean rooms, and the best thing that makes this such a good place to stay are the staff. All of them are incredibly helpful and generous. Loved the property. Would love to recommend it to family and friends.
