. Nahum and Sons Bakery. Kolkata's only Zeus Bakery; Its name is strangely connected with that of our city; And it is needless to say that the name of Nahums comes up when you say cake; As a child the shop was a celebrity celebrity thing to me but as I grew up that matter faded away; The last time I had their cake the experience was overall average; This time there is no more; However, some items remain: Fruit Cake 600/- Plum Cake 350/- Cheese Puff 30/- Almond Cookies 40/- Brownie 50/- Heart Cake 40/- Chicken Patties 35/- Chicken Puff 30/- Fruit Mince Pie 40/-
How to go: This shop is inside Hog Market in New Market; Telling anyone will show; However, if you come in this season, you have to wait at least one and a half hours to get the cake.
Although the place is very much inside the Hogg Market, but once you get there you will be very much satisfied with their different items. Ive visited here several times and never been disappointed with their products, everything is freshly baked.
Somewhere, I have an average experience with their payment procedure. In a world where most of us transact on Online Payment, there I always have a negative experience in payment. Also, they don't accept all kind of Cards, they accept only selected ones. So, I somewhere don't like with their payment procedure service.
The best place in Kolkata for high quality cakes and bakery items. Established in 1902, still maintaining the glory of best cakes. A must visit for cake lovers!
This is one of the old and famous shop of the market. This was previously was very famous for bakery products but day by day quality dropped. Now it's just ok ok. You can try other shops if you are not reluctant to buy here. Stuffs are helpful. They only provide cash only payment option.
It retains its Old Calcutta charm. For the price, the quality is worth it. You'll also get some unique items here that you'll not find in other places. Plum cake is worth dying for!
This year the baker3is celebrating 150th year of existence. Each and every product like chicken paties, pastries are just make you feel wow. The garlic bread is their specialty.
A Heritage pastry shop established in 1902. More than a century old yet it retains its originality. The taste the quality has not changed. It has an old unique taste. If you are in kolkata do visit this place once.
Probably the first shop in Kolkata selling cakes and other bakery items, but trust me they never boasted about it like the sweet shop owners in Kolkata.
A MUST VISIT PLACE IN KOLKATA IF YOU LIKE CAKES, PATTIES etc. YOU SHOULDN'T MISS THIS PLACE. THE BEST PART OF IT, THEY KEPT THIS PLACE IN THE SAME WAY, IT USED TO BE 100 YEARS BACK. SALUTE
Literally awestruck by the variety and taste of the bakery items I tried at this 105 year old bakery at Esplanade, Kolkata - Nahoum and Sons. I came to know from the owner of the shop that it was the last and only Jewish bakery in Kolkata and nearby regions.
Nahoum will Always hold a very special and unique place in our lives who know Calcutta more than Kolkata! Childhood memories interlaced with this shop and the delectable goodies have maintained the same standard over the years. Visit to New Market is incomplete without a visit to Nahoum.
Nahoum is simply amazing for cakes as well as snacks. They had wide range of variety over cakes and the awesomeness of taste will make you addicted to visit there again and again.
I tried- ? Heart Cake ? Lemon Puff ? Rich Fruit Cake
Lemon Puff and Rich Fruit Cake are highly recommended and they were just wow in taste.
I went to this place with my mother and listened to her childhood memories in this place while having a lemon tart and heart cake! Yes, it is that old and the phrase "Old is Gold" totally suits this particular shop. The cakes and pastries and everything in here were so soft, spungy and it smelled really really good. The ambience of this place is amazing for people those who wanna experience a trip back in the 90s. All the food items available here are definitely worth trying, you will not regret it! Would definitely recommend it to everyone.
Tried their chocolate ball cake and mayonnaise chicken which was good in taste and quality. Also tried their chese puff and pizza pattie which could have been much better. Loved their pastries and cake more than savoury stuff.
One of the most highly acclaimed confectional of heritage stature. The sheer magnificence of the shop is a must go to place to all dessert lovers of Kolkata
Nahoum is emotion, love and heritage. The brownies, rum cakes and fruit cakes are foods to die for. This is a must visit when you are on Kolkata. One of the oldest bakery in India. It's a Jewish bakery. It's a charm
Visiting nahoums has always been a nostalgic journey for Kolkatans. Though of course the products are still inviting as always but the shop needs serious upliftment in terms of hygiene and upkeep. I was disappointed to see the state of affairs. Nahoums is very close to my heart and must not lose its glory.
One of the oldest and popular confectionery store in Kolkata. I most like Nahoum's Milk Bread and Fruit cake. You can also explore here a rare picture of 1900 era.
Hands down the cutest old school bakery in Kolkata. Try the cheese samosa, fish rolls and lemon tart. Cheesecakes are of a unique variety. The packed stuff is amazing, especially the date sticks and the ginger nut cookies. The quality of bread is also great and the prices are quite nominal.
Old world charm coupled with a taste that has lingered for years. The freshly baked cakes, tarts, pastries and savouries are simply yum. Pride of Kolkata.
My wife bought chicken patties today from Nahoums and I could not believe that I was eating a Nahoum product. I have been buying from them for the past 50 years and never ever had a complaint. This is the first time. The chicken patty was dry and filled with breadcrumbs. I hope they will look into it.
A part of the urban heritage and culture of Calcutta and fond personal memories. Today it's merely a pale shadow of the glorious past offering a rare window of what Calcutta used to be.
One of the oldest cake and pastry shop at New Market, kolkata. Though the shop does not look impressive in first look for newcomer but still retains it's quality in cake, pastries, various type of bread.
More than 100 years old Jewish bakery and the taste is definitely worth going for. I really liked the way they prepare all those stuffs. And it's affordable as well:)
One of my favourite's. The taste and quality of eatables (especially Chocolate pastries, that's what I mostly buy) are delicious and yummy. I never really miss a chance to buy the chocolate pastries from here if I am at New Market. .
Visited on 25th Dec at around 6.30 pm, only option of takeaway, and limited items were available, tried chocolate pastry, sugar content is slightly on the higher side, so, u may be cautious before trying pastries but fruit cake is awesome.
The cakes and cookies in this store are very good. It is a famous shop in Kolkata. Many people throng this store throughout the year. But at Christmas time, their rich fruit cakes are the most popular. It is the oldest bakery in New Market. The Ram Ball, Ginger Cookies, Lemon Tart are very good here.
One of the iconic Shop since British era. Serving the people and quite popular among all age groups. They have maintained their legacy. A visit to New Market without visiting Nahoum is incomplete.
