"I'm very sorry for your inconvenience"

Is a sentence I heard multiple times from the helpless customer service rep who had absolutely no hand in my inconvenience.

By 2023, OYO has become a pretty ubiquitous hospitality brand- a middle class euphemism for an erstwhile unavailable service. That is, OYO was built for the general public, a place for anyone to stay on a budget- couples, students, friends.

Now, OYO is the biggest motel business we have in India. Still there's something not entirely official about OYO's. As I learned recently- You can be denied booking last minute, you can be told to wait and sit homeless in the heat for hours- making a scene in hotel lobbies demanding refunds or a room at the price we were promised, "please hold"ing the call for over an hour, taking to managers who can't say anything except "I'm very sorry for your inconvenience" when asked "where do we go now? "

I'm privileged enough to have a home and have the savings to sustain myself for the time being. As does my friend and partner. The bigger question is- does OYO fulfill the promise it makes to the masses to give them comfortable and affordable lodging without the insult of being asked to leave or paying double the original rate of your booking?

So not to sound overdramatic- but where do we go now?

Booked OYO Monurama Homestay for 7 days for my family. It was a great hospitality they gave. The staff and owner is very humble and they took care just like a family. Close to EM Bypass which makes it more convenient to travel to any parts of the Kolkata City. Room are clean and sufficiently big enough for 2 members. Thank you So much again
