Beautiful place lots of migratory birds and friendly people.
We had a meal there that felt homemade - so fresh. And it was served with great love and care. Great experience. Clean toilets too

Nice place for birding. Many migratory birds come here. It would be best if you take a boat and get close to the birds on boat the boatmen are experienced and give you perfect opportunity to capture or just see birds.

This was a nice place once but due to rulling party they are not maintaining the place accordingly hence it’s now getting disaster day by day. Only in the winter you can come and ride boat which cost 150/- per hour including 4 person which is very less and reasonable that appreciated. The communication and public transport is very poor. Besides the place now private resort is constructed but the place is not safe after evening. The road is fully without light and very less light. This is not the place where i can spend weekend but we can stay here one morning to evening in the winter season. In the park there is room available but very high price. In the winter we can see lot of flowers. Previous in this place was popular as Siberian birds was coming but now a days only Egret is available. This place could be better and remarkable but in this place political party are not developed as a tourist spot, very lack of maintaining and lack of secured.
Overall experience could be good, if you’re coming from long distance please don’t go as with the internet picture and real time atmosphere not matching.
It’s getting disaster day by day due to not maintaining this property.

We know Purbasthali is a great place for bird photography in winter, but birding can be done here round the year, in summer as well

It's my favorite birding destination throughout the year. Most people come here during winter but it has its own charm in every season. If you are a nature lover, do visit this place.

It was great. Local people are encouraging picnics and chaos for their monetary benefit at this site, which is a place for local and migratory birds. Nearby there are few stay options which are not up to the mark and many food stalls which run mostly seasonal businesses.

This is a very beautiful place close to nature. You can find many species of birds.it is worth one day's enjoyment.

Perfect spot for nature lover and photographers to click different kind of bird. Water so clear that you can see in inside view.

Local name "Chupi char", the paradise for bird lovers, actually it is an oxbow lake, connected by Ganga. You have to hire a boat to explore the water body. Boat charges are reasonable and the boat men are hospitable. Birds activities are there through the year but best time to visit December to February as migratory birds come here.

Train route is Howrah-Katowa local. Nearest station is Purbasthali Stn. Govt.cottages and private cottages available here. Mayapur Iskcon Temple is very short distance from here.

I loved this place, Me and my team "Wild Lancer" visited here more than 15 times. These are what we spot here - Osprey, Common kingfisher, White-throated kingfisher, Pied kingfisher, Stork-billed kingfisher, Lesser whistling duck, Common coot, Cotton pygmy goose, Swamphen, Little grebe, Pochard and many more. A beautiful place for photographer, nature lover. This is a strictly NO for picnic party, tourists, and who do not know how to respect nature (sad side most people actually understand this part). This is a place for local and migratory birds and this ecosystem is getting hampered by local people who are encouraging picnic and chaos for their monetary benefit. Nearby there are few stay options which are not up to the mark and many food stalls which run mostly seasonal business. On the other side boatman, fisherman have strong knowledge about birds and they are only persons worried about environment. Keep clean keep green. Lets birds live their normal lives.

This place has a horse shoe lake originated from the Gangas. Varities of birds can be seen in winter. The view of the surroundings are really eye soothing. Availability of food is not good. Overall its a good place to visit once in a while

This is a Oxbow lake which is connected with Ganges.
You have to reach from Purbasthali Station.
Mayapur Iscon temple back side also visible from this location.

There are so many migratory birds are coming in this place in winter period. But Purbashali road is not at all indicated or marked from main Asam road. Boats and very small, carrying only 4 persons. No system of wearing life jackets. There are no propar ghats. Needs much more development.

Perhaps the most famous winter destination among bird photographers of Bengal. Purbasthali is a U shaped lake that gives shelter to many migratory bird species that visit India during winter. Red-crested pochards, Common pochards, osprey, waders, ruddy shelducks visit this unique lake every winter. There are some homestays in this place. The local fishermen act as guide as well as boatmen during the winter and take the tourists for whole-day boat ride along the lake.

Very beautiful place, I strongly recommend this, who love birds and nature. 6km distance from Purbasthali station.

So calm so peaceful place, isolate from cities, very clean place, most beautiful part is plastic completely prohibited.
Mainly in Winter season migratory birds comes here from across the world to search for food and shelter, u can rent boat to see them, also u can organize picnic or program here, a really good place to bring your family friends and childrens

Really great place for bird watching. Boat charges 150 rupees per hour. Public transport is available to this place. Now this place is also popular as a picnic spot. So, photographers should avoid the weekends, as there you may found huge crowds. No safety features available in the boats. So, riding it seems risky.

Purbasthali is paradise for bird watchers. A small place in Kalna subdivision of Burdwan district where on the banks of river Bhagirathi (Ganga) an Oxbow lake have been formed as the river changed course continuously over the years. The natural lake spreads over almost three and half square kilometres and the channel of water extends in a closed loop shape for almost 11 kms. The lake is still fed by river water through a narrow opening. However due to rapid sedimentation and the river changing course further, it is now under threat to get cut off from the main river in near future. During monsoon when the water level rises the whole area gets flooded but in the winter when the water subsides, lots of small islands rise up. This has created a unique ecosystem where tall grasses and scrubs grow in abundance on these islands making it the safe haven for the birds, both resident as well as migratory. Birds fly in from as far as Siberia. Come winter, birding enthusiasts flock to Purbashali, armed with powerful binoculars and cameras fitted with long tele lenses which would put the barrel of a Indian made Arjun MK-I battle tank to shame.

A perfect place for bird watching for bird lovers. Every winter numerous migratory birds come here, creating a feast for the eyes.
Also boat rides are available at a nominal price, which provides a closeup to the flying beauties.

A hidden treasure of a place. This place is popularly known as bird lovers paradise. Chupi char is actually an oxbow lake with its main connection to the Ganges. A 7-8 hours boat ride will cost about 350 rupees per head. Best time to come here is December to February as all the migratory birds come here. There are numerous species of birds the minimum of which is 30 species of birds. Notable to watch out for ar osprey, pied kingfisher, poachard etc.

Place for local and migratory birds (in winter season). Migratory birds are becoming less year after year. So please keep the water of the oxbow lake clean and DO NOT throw any form of plastics in the lake.

Now it is really hard to find migrated bird. In winter season the place is too much crowded. Still good place for visit in week days.

For bird watching this place is very good but the only problem is with washroom.there is only one common washroom available in that area and that also not maintained properly.
I hope government will solve this issue.

A great place for bird and nature lovers. There are various species of bird available like the red crested pochard, osprey etc. The boat charges are nominal and the boat men are hospitable. Good time to visit is during winters.

It's a good place for weekend 2 or 3nights. Just besides the chari ganga and sarrund by mango garden, cooking is great, we enjoyed a lot.

Lodge: Some govt.cottages are there with reasonable price. Booking are taken on spot or from kolkata or from net.
Route: From Howrah Katowa local takes 2hr 45 min. From purbàshthali Toto are available.
Parking lot are available so anyone can go through car.
About the place: Place is safe for young girls and children.

A wonderful destination for birding, an oxbow lake is there, full of winter migratory birds, located near nabadwip at east Bardhaman.
