As a first time visitor to the city in 2018, I was shocked at how authentic the flavors of the South Indian dishes were, at this old-style, no-frills restaurant. I gorged on rava dosas and relished the different types of chutneys, which somehow reminded me of grandma.:) Five stars just for that.

The Restaurant has lost its charm. There was a time that we had to stand in queue to get a place and the food was amazing but now the food is just ok. We ordered uthappam which was not cooked and Masala Dosa was ok. Their best product was not available. The two star is just for the filter coffee we had

The quality of the food has deteriorated drastically. Quiet unexpected! Can't give any star sorry.

Visited post lockdown, during lunch was not crowded as before, this south indian Joint maintains its dosa idli etc taste

Worst food taste. Total waste of time and money.
I had ordered Butter onion masala dosa, plain masala dosa and cheese mixed uttapam. Both dosa was tasteless and uttapam was burnt from outside and not cooked properly from inside. Also chutney and sambhar had a very bad taste.

An institution when it comes to South Indian Food. However, in recent times, the quality of the food has gone downhill.

Some of the must try items (special chutney, masala dosa) have maintained a level of consistency but other items have not. The sambar in particular has deteriorated in quality.

Would still recommend visiting this place however.

Very bad behavior of the waiters! I don't think to go ever again. Number of waiters are also very less.

The best taste of authentic South Indian delicacies at most reasonable prices. Buying since kid days, four decades and a half back.the Dosa taste remains unchanged!

This is a very renowned place for south Indian food. Unfortunately, it is not living up to its name in recent times. The taste has deteriorated in recent past and food quality is not up to the mark.

A varied selection of dosas and other traditional south indian food.
The dosas are always great. The thali is also a good lunch option.
One of the few places on the city to still be doing a very traditional sambhar.

Good food and average service. Ambience is okay. Chola bhatura is nice but sadly by design they give small portion of chola hence you will have to order extra and pay additional 65rs.

I have been visiting this restaurant since 1991, and amazingly the taste have remained the same. But the ambience and paint job is a big minus, otherwise I would have given it 5 stars.

A tad overpriced, but fairly good family South Indian restaurant. The staffs are bit casual and non interested in approach, that can be irritable sometimes

The great south Indian Restaurants at Hazra Road, South Kolkata. Specially idli was so good and this is also very good place for Vegeterian.

I visited this place quite a few number of times and has always been a favorite place of mine to have south indian dishes. I like the chat that they make.
My picks from this place are: masala doshas, dahi vada, chholey bhatura, papri chat, samosa chat and dhokla.

The interior and the service is very nice although some of the rates of the food have been changed and if you are not an non - vegetarian this is the best restaurant for you and there is also a hotel on top of it.

Horrible service, owner is the most bad behaved person (talking about hotel Raj) even the room service guys are trained to behave badly with a guest who is 70 year old senior. The owner first lied then behaved like a typical Kolkata goon. Never recommend any one to book this hotel again.

Absolutely good place. Visited for the first time. Love at first visit. Superb South Indian food. They serve pizza also.hidden gem according to me.

Seems like along with the Restaurant interiors and ambience, even the cook has changed. I have been a true fan Raj Restaurant since past 30 years. I can say that the food is as good as always. But surely the taste and presentations have changed in past 2 years. Don't get me wrong, it's nothing wrong with food. But just that Change is not always good. These guys had, a few years back, raised the prices of their menu items by double. Now they have lowered it back for 2014-15 prices. But Sambhar, Chutney, the Masala of the Dosa and the Dosa presentation itself, all have changed.
Again, nothing wrong with change, but the changes that have been made to the overall taste, didn't help me relive the past experiences.
Some things aren't meant to be changed. Hope people can understand when they incorporate changes in their food.

Hospitality and Cleanliness are not up-to the mark. Staff behavior is Average but they are very slow. Also It needs a good handsome help with lighting and rehab.

Before it was very good but now the rates have become higher, quality has decreased even quantity has also been reduced.
