I ordered the papdi chaat (Rs 50) here and realised that I made a mistake when it was served and I took the first bite. The papdis were drowned in curd (made in-house, this being a sweet shop) and there was hardly any masala (made of potato, onion etc) on the papdis. It lacked that 'chatpada' flavour and was too sweet. The curd tasted good but that was it.

I ordered the chhena pora next - an iconic sweet from Puri that they sell (Rs 40 per 100 gm). I am fond of this dessert and since it's hardly available in Kolkata, I thought of trying it. It turned out to be another disappointment! Neither the spongy softness nor the smoky flavour. The texture was like 'Makha sondesh'.

Who says that if you name Laxminarayan Saw near Hatibagan, you will find only chop shops?

Find the best kulfi in the area, the best lassi, even Orissa's Chanapora.

Plus, it's probably the only sweet shop in the area that offers southern treats, and they're pretty good.

No, this store is not a century old, but it has successfully passed the forty years and is still standing in good condition along Main Street.

Do not understand?

Stand in front of the chop shop and look opposite, you will see an alley. Look to his right, you will see this misty shop called Rasna, right next to the main road.

The first photo is of Swargiya Lakshinarayan Sau and his wife Swargiya Kamala Sau. It is kept inside the shop.
