There food quality get wrost day by day.not justifying the price.they surely uses dalda in biryani! Not proper coocked mutton.is this justify for this price range. I'm a regular customer of there even few years back this biryani and chap is my all tym favorite.but now this is wrostest much better options in this price range.

The worst Biryani ever, I don't know people ha e created unnecessary hype. I think they have paid people to promote them. We have ordered mutton biryani and it did not had any taste, no masala, no flavour, no biryani fragrance I suggest to never have atleast biryani form them. Other dishes I had no idea

Rates are on very higher side.the quality of food is good but highly overpriced.a normal rumali roti costed rs 20. Check the rates before before ordering as the portion is also quite small

Mutton chap is full of bones.too kuch oily and much spicy. Quantity is very less compared to price.mutton is hard to find in mutton biriyani.the only piece i found is the piece of bone.one plate of biriyani is not sufficient for one person

Royal Indian Hotel has surely downgraded in terms of food quality and standards. It still continues to attract customers owing to the name it has earned in the past but since last few years, it has been failing expectations in every aspect. First of all, The ambience is not as good as you would find usually. I wouldn't mind waiting for my food if it's worthy enough for it but believe me, it wasn't. I had ordered Chicken Tandoori as a starter and that was the only thing that was tasty and served as per expectations. For main course I had ordered Chicken Biryani, Chicken Chaap and Rumali Roti. Chicken Biryani was average. The pieces were not satisfactory. The Chicken Chaap was a horrible. The masala had an overpowering taste of garam masala that made it taste weird and gave a buring feeling to your throat. The rumali roti was cold. They don't serve Tandoori Roti. That was a disappointment. Their waiters don't even listen to the orders properly. They always messed up on the quantity of orders placed. Extremely disappointed. DISCLAIMER: THEY DON'T SERVE ALOO IN BIRYANI. SO MAKE SURE YOU KNOW THAT BEFORE VISITING.

My all time favourite place to eat the best Mughlai khana. When I was a small boy I used to go with my father now I sit at the same table with my daughter and eat.

An expensive place to visit. But what to see money when you get indias best mutton chap like this at this place with a experience of more than 200 years can attract you from anywhere from kolkata. And there Nawabi mutton biryani, liver and phirni. No other restaurants can beat there taste. 1 people can cost you around pocket pinch of Rs. 400 with getting your tummy full.

Me being the biryani lover loved the taste but the ingredients and the pieces of chicken and mutton are inappropriate.
And also they don't accept any other mode of payment except cash.

This place was once the landmark of Kolkata in terms of the food that it served. The visit to Kolkata was incomplete without biryani and mutton chanp of Royale. But it pains me to say that the place has lost its charm entirely and is no longer the best. The service was also not up to the mark and leave alone the ambience although it was never famous for its ambience.
They no longer serve their iconic mutton chanp. Now if you order mutton chanp you will only get shredded mutton which has not comparison with its traditional dish. I am extremely disappointed with the place. It has failed miserably to live up to the name that once it milked.

Went for dinner tonight. The mutton special biryani didn't have a single piece of kofta in it. When asked for, they didn't even bother to provide it. Food is ok type. The old Royal Indian delicacies aren't there anymore. 1 star for service.

Best place in kolkata for biriyani, chaanp and other nawabi dishes. If biriyani is your first priority then definitely go for it without having any second thought.

Yummmmmyyyy food! Mutton Champ here is bestest in city.you might even face a queue for the same coz it's the most in demand. They have AC and Non AC family hall on 1st floor and casual dining on ground. Must eat Gajar Halwa (if available), Mutton Champ, Roomali Roti, Chicken Kaasa and Biryani.

Biriyaniiiiii is all about. Mutton champ is another popular dish. Although quantity is a bit less but taste will appetite you.

Located in very very crowded Chitpore beside the Nakhoda Mosque, Royal has no peers. The biryani is just awesome but without the ubiquitous alu (potato). So biriyani alu lovers will surely be disappointed. Was feeling hungry and I just headed there. Had mutton Biryani which was quite fulfilling. The mutton was very tender and juicy. Had it with Chicken Chanp which was also delicious. A must visit if in Calcutta.

A heritage eatery, which definitely justifies it's fame. I've had some of the best awadhi food here.

This is one of the oldest Mughlai Restaurants, which serves good quality dishes, at pocket friendly prices. The name "Royal" fits perfectly with the food and the service standards that it offers. Although the restaurant ambience is not too much hygienic, but the foods are really delicious. This is the original and the first branch of Royal. They recently opened a new branch in Park Circus as well, where the ambience is much more deluxe. Another thing that I would suggest Royal, is to start making Tandoori Rotis, because I haven't found Tandoori Roti enlisted on their menu. Also, start accepting debit/credit cards. Overall, it's a good restaurant.

Located near to Nakhoda Masjid, the place is good and dining is at first floor. The quantity provided might be a little less if one is opting for biryani but for other dishes i.e. Rumali roti with side dish the quantity is decent. Prices are a little onnthe higher side and the first floor dining area is closed from all sides thus might make a person feel a little claustrophobic. The chicken and mutton cooked is very tender and can be eaten by even an elderly person. Although wouldn't categorise the place as an aout and out awesome place since there is almost similar quality food available at lower prices but ideally a person would'nt regret having food over here. Visit on a Sunday as the place is less occupied and the food is better.

A highly sought after place for Biriyani lovers in Kolkata. Although a bit over hyped in my opinion. Food is good and the price is reasonable, but nothing to die for. Bill for two should be around 700 bucks. Must try items are moti Biriyani, mutton chaap, shahi tukra. Recommended place if you're a die-hard biryani fan.

One of the oldest Muslim hotels of Boro bazaar Kolkata. This time I visited this hotel after 33years. Things has changed Flavour is there but taste.

Worst taste ever. I never taste that kind of biriyani and WTF mutton chap. I was unable to complete a quater plate of chap. It's smelled raw spices with raw Ginger. I should never recommend to anyone.

This restaurant, located in a very old part of Calcutta - Chitpore Road - is part of the culinary and cultural heritage of Calcutta. Royal's chaap has been immortalised in the old stories from this city. The restaurant was opened in 1905.
If you go there with family be prepared to climb a very steep staircase. The ground floor dining hall is not really for family and does not accept credit card.
Try their mutton chaap pasinda, which is the boneless version of the original chaap. Pasinda chaap is available only on certain days of the week though. Wednesday, Friday and Sunday.
Prices are reasonable and food is simply great. Royal's traditional items like Biryani and Chaap are iconic. Kebabs are relatively recent addition, just to keep up with the Joneses.
With Nakhoda mosque close by, the restaurant serves certain special dishes around Ramjan. The restaurant does not serve any beef item.
I have deducted one star because there are certain logistical issues about going to the restaurant. If you go by car, there is absolutely no way you can park nearby. You find parking only about 5/7 minutes' walking distance away from the restaurant, which by By Calcutta's standards is very far. The staircase to the upper floor air-conditioned halls is very steep and might be dangerous for the elderly or children. Decor is staid and just functional. Nothing much to write home about.
There is another branch of the restaurant in Park Circus that is easier to reach and has better logistics. It has opened rather recently. But if you want to taste the authentic and original nothing beats Royal Chitpur.

It's a good place to have biriyani and chaap. It's their signature dish. Its reasonable 500rs for 2 people. (Only biriyani). As the time moves on their food quality and quantity has been downgraded.

Food was ok but service was very bad, we ordered 4 chicken biryani but unfortunately one of the biryani was missing with chicken. When we called the waiter and informed him about the scenario, surprisingly he told us that we are lying, we have eaten the chicken and lying.

It's one of the oldest restaurants in kolkata. It's mainly famous for it's biryani and mutton chap. Quality of food is good, so is the ambience. If you're a foodie, this is a must visit.

Price is quite high, Indian food is available only, they provide a biryani without egg and allo, so i don't like it that, otherwise everything is good

BIRIYANI- Their biriyani is quite different. Flavour is not rich, and quite different.mutton piece is so soft, juicy & tender. They don't put ALU (potato) in biriyani. For Kolkata style biriyani lover that's very disappointing.

They have good food but I think they have become so rich that they have forgot to behave, showing attitude or may be behaving according to the people. Good with the rich and pathetic with the middle class.

Its Its tot hyped. We ordered mutton chaap because of review. Its not worth it for Rs 245. Quality is very less. Taste also not up to mark. I had very tasty mutton chaap somewhere else too. In my opinion its a very hyped restaurant.

It's a vintage hotel and famous for biriyani once a time. Satyajit Ray used to came here for biriyani those days. Now a days, lots of biriyani restaurants are here at Kolkata but you can't ignore the taste of Royal's Biriyani. Meatball are the speciality of biriyani here. Try chicken chap and biriyani. Paratha with mutton chaap or chicken chaap also great. Located at Rabindra Sarani Burra Bazar area. Nearest metro station is MG Marg. Biriyani price 190/- mutton and chicken both. Remember, beside the biriyani, chiken chaap is also famous item here. During Ramzan month, try halim here. Awesome halim you can get here. No beef available here.

The hotel serves non-veg delicacies of Chicken & Mutton. The food is good and tastier. Chicken Biryani & Rumali Roti with Mutton Kassa is my personal favorite of the restaurant. The non-veg lovers will be delighted after visiting this place as they have a large menu of Non-veg delicacies. But there are some of the things that I want you to care of before visiting the place, first one is - they don't accept card payments, second- the restaurant is not economical, you might find few items over priced, the third- there is lack of the cleanliness, and the fourth- they don't serve Raita or chutney with Biryani, the fifth- perhaps this is due to high customer load, you won't get hot rumali rotis on order, rotis are already prepared. That's all about the place. Anyways, people love it and you find the tables always occupied despite these negative factors.
