I was just passing through town and lucked upon Skinny Mo’s. It is a top class Jazz establishment. Everyone there is very genuine and united by their love for jazz and curiosity for its potential directions. There was a real genuine celebration of the music. I will defiantly go back not just for the music but also for the conversations and the character of the place.
Skinnymo's is probably the best place in Calcutta right now for some great music. Of all the venues in town I've never seen the crowd be so attentive and respectful towards the musicians. Hats off to the owners and organisers.
Hope to be a part of many more great nights. Cheers!
The place has a great ambiance. I had a superb time enjoying the best of the classics from Miles Davis, Monk, etc brought to life by talented musicians.
Visited the restaurant last night (Sept. 21st) with my wife. We were the only diners at 9.00 pm. We ordered a soup, a sandwich & fish n chips (main course). We were totally disappointed with all the items. All portions were REALLY SMALL for their resp.prices. The chicken cutlet sandwich bread seemed old /stale & crumbly. Just 2 pieces, about 4.0 in.long x 1.5 in.in size, with bare filling & some thin wafer chips (300/-). The soup too was appalling - very little qty with very little sprinkling of some shredded chicken (240/-). And the fish n chips consisted of 4 thin & small slivers of fish, again with that ubiquitous thin wafer chips (500/-). No added boiled veg.or potato mash. We came away hungry. (At any other Park St/ similar restaurant we'd have had substantial portions of all items for equal tariff.) Redesigning the menu with proper quantity & pricing would be necessary urgently for this outlet to be a hit in this neighbourhood. The decor is subdued & generally OK, with art-deco motifs & floor tiles. Black n white colour scheme also OK. The attending staff were very polite, gentle & helpful. (We were the only guests!) Despite the bad experience with the food, I left a good tip, much to my wife's vehement objection! I hope things improve. PS. I am a jazz enthusiast. Went upstairs to check out the "workshop" n progress. The staircase to the 2nd floor was too narrow, more than 35/38 steps & a bit winding. Can be dangerous in case of an emergency.
