Sovabazar Rajbari

Sovabazar Rajbari, this is a heritage place located in North Kolkata, famous for the traditional Durga Puja. The environment is also wonderful. Mostly people visit the place during durga puja. It's old building with a big place in the middle where you can stand and view all sides of the building. The (shabeki) traditional style Durga Pujo at Sovbazar Rajbari is a must visit in North Kolkata. One can visit here at the time of Durga Puja and can feel the nostalgia. This is the witness of golden history & cultural heritage of Bengal.

It is the royal palace of a nobility Maharaja Nabakrishna Deb (1737-1797). He was known for being at service for the British and amassing a lot of wealth. He helped the British to topple Siraj ud-Daulah. The family durga puja here started in 1757 which is running for 265 years as of 2022. The idol is traditional "Ek Chala" and the lion idol have a speciality. It's "Ghototmukhi Singha" (A lion's body with a horse's face.) The nat mandap area is big and spacious inside the palace. Also there are 2 lion figures on the entrance.

Sovabazar Rajbari Durga Puja, which was on record first durga pujo of Calcutta started by Raja Navakrisna Deb Bahadur in the year 1753 after the first battle of Palasi conspiring with East India Company to defeat the then Nabab of Bengal Siraj Ud-Daulah. One of the most prominent existence of the past carrying its legacy like a legend.

The place has a vibe of its own. On a walk distance from Shovabajar metro.:) people mainly go to get some pics and leave in 30 mins basically.

It is a historical and traditional palace. It's a very beautiful palace. Durga Puja is celebrated here every year, which is more than 100 years old.

Visited the place during this Durga puja. It was open to all that time. Ennumber of people gathered here to witness the great festival of Bengal. This rajibari is given on rent for marriage or any other programme. Nice place for photoshoot also. Sovabazar Metro station is not so far. It is well connected with other parts of Kolkata by bus.

This year I went to rajbari for first time to experience their bonedi bari puja culture. I had great time there with my friends. Just loved their tradition.

It's an ancient Rajbari (রাজার বাড়ি) situated at Sobhabazar. They were in Kolkata at the times of Englishmen & also took part in revolution. There're many memories here from history. Moreover, it's an awesome place to visit. Every year at the time of Durga Puja, this palace look amazing & awesome with its own beauty. I really like to visit here every year. Maybe oldest among all. The declarations are mind-blowing. You'd surely love the ambiance. Famous spot in Kolkata.

It's my mother's house so I am a part of the family.we make sure to follow the rituals to the same extent as it was years ago.the family gather for all four days of the puja and an eventful time is spent

The historical place which is one of the evidence of rational and financially rich Bengal. The ancestors of this palace had a cordial relationship with many historical famous personalities, like, Lord Bentink, Babu Ramchandra etc.

Still the Shobabazar Rajbari is in my elite list of Durga Pujo hopping.
I just went to kolkata during Pujo, after few years, and I just loved see Idol of Shobhabazar Rajbari with beautiful crowd. I took some beautiful memories in my this year kolkata pujo tour, within which this place was on top.

There is enough of open space inside the palace. In such a situation where terrible space crunch is there the space could have been utilised far better. The entrance of the Rajbari should have been better decorated to attract tourists.

Heritage of Kolkata.situated in the core north of the city with its own glory and history.it's a two minute walk from Sovabajar Metro station on the Raja Nanakrishna Dey Street.wide spread white building and square shaped greenery in the middle with the famous 'Thakur Dalan' in the front creat such a magic to stare at. During Durga Puja, it seems marvelous with the presence of the royal image of devi Durga.

This place has a very positive vibe. This place is situated at the behind of jaipuria college and the sovabazar metro station. The tradition is maintained till today.

The Shobhabazar Rajbari is among one of the oldest Royal houses of Kolkata aristocracy. It was built by Raja Nabakrishna Deb, who was a prominent aristocrat of Kolkata. He was an ardent exponent of Brahmo Samaj Movement initiated by Raja Ram Mohan Roy. The Rajbari is famous for its annual Durga Puja celebrations in the month of October-November. It is also an important heritage site of Kolkata resplendent with memories of the old zamindari (feudal lord) era that dominated the region once upon a time.

This place is just awesome which a heritage at the heart of the city. The durga pujo of Shobhabazar Rajbari is century old. This place has it's own aroma. Just love going there.

Historically its significance is huge. But the condition of the place is not good. Only cleaned at the puja time. No photography or video allowed inside unless you pay five thousand.open each day & free entry.

It's a very nostalgic experince. The moment you entire the main door or Singha-dorja, you'll feel as if lifted to the era of the zamindar's. One issue with the location is the inconvenience of parking 4 wheeler. However the proximity to the Metro station and bus routes ensure easy commute.

One of the historic rajbari of kolkata.tourists should really visit this place during the durga puja or more importantly during DASHAMI MORNING for sindhur khela and photographs.tourists will get to know about the bengali rituals.must visit place and I have been there multiple times for photography.

One of the oldest Durga pujas of Kolkata. Two Rajbari is there Boro raj bari and chhoto raj bari. Boro raj bari is more famous. Both place is near to Jai puria college. Sovabazar metro station is just nearby. Durga Murti is traditional and done in ekchala.
