One of the oldest school in Kolkata, founded by Bishop Cotton, celebrated 150 years in the year 2014. Mr. T. H. Ireland, one of the best educationist, is the Principal of the school.

I am a student of the school and I am in Class VII. I think this is the best school in Kolkata. The teachers are very kind and helpful to students. The environment of this school is neat and clean. The senior students or Prefects are very helpful to junior students. I love my school very much!

As a student of this school I'd say it has many problems, here are a few
i) Teachers: the main goal of the teachers here is to finish the syllabus and not the make the lad understand the topic being taught.ii) facilites: even though this school has such a big name, things such as blackboards, old benches, tables from long ago are still being implemented.iii) incompetence: teachers in this school are either good or bad, there's no in between. However, even in the classes in which smart boards were introduced they were barely used as the teachers didn't know how to use them
Now moving on the good qualities of this school
i) variety in clubs: there are clubs and this the students have the option to choose thebones they are interested in
ii) sports: there is also a lot of options for sports, ranging from typical cricket, badminton, swimming basketball and football.
Overall i don't personally like this school as it didn't meet upto my expectations, however everyone has a diff experience

The school has the playground with strict attendance and 100% pass percentage with aggregate marks which are above 85% in ICSE exam since ages. The best of the best and Prat Memorial school nearby this school which is not a Co-ed is much more better for Girls. Kudos to St James's school faculty members and the decent Students of all times.

My Son, Ritrish Bhaduri walked into this school in the year 2008 and his year if completion of School will be 2023. I still remember the day when the interviews were taken.transparent and logical. Over the years I have seen my son to excel in Sports, develop positive personality traits and the most important of all to he turned out being a good ‘ human ‘, caring for others and being supportive to all. Along with the family values, his school has helped him to be so. Being an academician myself, I sincerely feel that St. James’ School is one of the best Schools of Kolkata for the all round development of a child.

I'm a student in class 11 and from my experience this is was horrible school. Low quality teachers, nepotism, corruption is imminent. Class room are using bench chairs and black boards from 50 yrs ago. No modern methods of teaching, not even a proper toilet. Rude behaviour by staff and teachers. Heavy donations are demanded and only muslim and Christian students are preferred. Please send your children to a co - ed international school for their more wholesome development rather than this school still stuck in the British era and followed segregation based on gender.

Current educational research has found no place in this school. It’s a shame that old school fame is attracting so many folks into this toxic school

It's a great experience studying in this school. Many events take place making the time of school life shorter and shorter

I haven't come across a school as unprofessional as St. James. They might have a big name and heritage of their own but they lack professionalism and decency. They don't even bother to notify the parents whether their child is selected or not. I had filled and submitted the form in November. They did not even care to inform how and when will they put up the list of the selected candidates. I checked everyday for almost until March when I finally realised that probably they have their own quota of students already selected.

14 years.
14 years just whipped past in front of I eyes.
I still remember walking into the gates back in 2005.
Scared, a little kid, I didn't want to let go.of my father's hand.
But then this woman approached me and looked at me with a smile on her face.
I don't remember what she said but i remember walking into my first classroom holding her hand. Turns out she was my class teacher

As the years rolled by, I went from nursery, to higher classes.
I was a introverted kid. Always used to be on my own.
But this school gave me so much and so many chances to express myself.
From helping out in the backstage, to being among the people who work behind the scenes to put up a good show, to doing band performances on stage.

In these 14 years I got to interact with so many people who taught me so much and helped me out in every way

The teachers are also really really amazing people here. Really friendly and helpful. And always open to helping you out.

This school also has so so so many clubs.
You won't lack any choices to express your talents.
Be it dance, cooking, music, photography, acting, drama, elocution, coding, phew!
Those were not even a quarter of the clubs St James' has.

And speaking of sports?
What don't we have?
Football, rugby, cricket, rowing, swimming, etc.
And on sports day?
High jump, discus throw, races, March past, and so much more

Studies are always balanced by activities and interschool competitions

And of course St James' has its own series of legendary events.
Jaco Mun, Jaco Corp, Jaco Dunk, Jaco Sanskriti, Jaco Synthesis and so much more

A school which has given me more than ever
And chose me among the 150 students of my batch and I got a chance to end my journey not just as one of the students. But as one of the School Prefects.

Thank you St. James'

Once a Jacobean. Always a Jacobean.
Pro Ecclesia Et Pro Patria.

I passed out from St. James School in 1961. I went on to do my MBA from XLRI in Jamshedpur. I am from the first batch of MBA' s having passed out in 1970. I joined XLRI in 1968 and this year the Institute is going to host our 50th homecoming. I will be in Jamshedpur on December 1st and 2nd for the occasion. I am currently the Country Head for WOODLAND the Indian footwear and apparel brand based in Moscow Russia. I regret never having returned to the School after I left it. I hope to be in Kolkata (used to be Calcutta then) at the end of November and it will be great to drop by.
