Star Theatre

It was quite better during its early days (2006-2010). The seats, sound system became worse and is not worth to watch a movie peacefully now.

After about 5 years I went to see the movie at Star Theater and was very disappointed. Screen, projection, sound, seats are in bad condition. But once it was great. The sound is muffled, the screen has tons of black spots, the seats are broken and dirty. Immediate action is required regarding these matters. So I couldn't give the star more than two stars in view of today's date.

Screen are sound are good! One ticket costs around Rs 115-130, worth it actually!
But I don't like the staff behaviour.
They were entering during the cinema, and we're making interruptions.

Average hall and average movie viewing experience. Visited this place to watch Garda 2. Just an average place to be in.

Not the best picture quality considering the ticket price. Seats are not often cleaned between consecutive shows.

Easily commutable. Nice ambience. Hall is upgraded with time, so you end up with an excellent movie watching experience. Last but not the least, after watching a movie, you can roam around the Hatibagan market nearby!

I really love this place. It is well maintained and have a nice ambience. Sound and picture quality is really good. Comfortable seats. Air condition works well. The view from rear stall is the best. Star theatre has its own historical values making the place more beautiful. This place gives nostalgic feelings.

Yes this is the place I always enjoy because the ambience is so royal that I always brood over nostalgia. Its a niceplace.

It's a good cinema single screen theatre is hatibagan locality. It's comparable to an average multiplex. However, food & beverags are cheaper than standard multiplexes. Seats are comfortable.

উত্তর কলকাতার ঐতিহ্য ধরে রাখার কথা তুললে স্টার সিনেমা হলের কথা তো আসবেই, তবে সাম্প্রতিক কালে মিত্রা সিনেমা হলটি বন্ধ হয়ে যাওয়ায় স্টারের জন্যও চিন্তা বেড়ে গেছে। কলকাতা শহরে হয়তো একমাত্র থিয়েটার হল যা আজ সিনেমা হলে রূপান্তরিত হয়েছে। হাতিবাগানের এই হলটিতে টিকিটের দাম ৮০, ১০০, আর ১১০ ছিল বর্তমানে কি হয়েছে ধারণা নেই। আশেপাশের কলেজের ছেলেমেয়েদেরই বেশি দেখা যায়, তবে রাতের দিকে বয়স্ক লোকজন বা পরিবার পরিজন নিয়ে মানুষজন দেখতে আসেন সিনেমা। হলটির ইতিহাস নয় অন্য আরেকদিন বলব, আপাতত যারা প্রেম করার জন্য ভাল জায়গা খুঁজছেন বা সময় কাটাতে চাইছেন তাদের কাছে আদর্শ এই স্থান তবে ইংরেজি সিনেমার যারা হিন্দি ডাবিং দেখতে চান তাদের জন্যও আদর্শ অর্থাৎ সিনেমা প্রেমীদের জন্য। তবে হলটির অবস্থা নিয়ে জিজ্ঞেস করলে বলব স্ক্রিন হয়তো মন মত পাবেন না, ওই থিয়েটার হল হওয়ার জন্যই আসলে এরকম পরিস্থিতি। তবে এখন এটি শুধুই সিনেমা হল। বর্তমানের বড় বড় মাল্টিপ্রেক্সের কাছে হয়তো কিছুই নয়, কিন্তু মাল্টিপ্লেক্সের তো আর ইতিহাস নেই মশাই আর না আছে ঐতিহ্য। তাই এতিহ্যমন্ডিত উত্তর কলকাতার স্টারে সিনেমা দেখুন আর যদি বিকেলের সো দেখেন তাহলে সিনেমার পর টাউন স্কুলের কাছে মালঞ্চ থেকে ফিস ফ্রাই বা চিকেন কাটলেট খেয়ে বাড়ি চলে যান। সত্যি বলছি ভুলবেন না৷

Star Theatre has been a gem in the history of Bengali play. On those days it was established by Mr. Girish Ghosh, considered as the father of the renaissance of Bengali playwriting in the modern age. Since then the theatre has been not only just an auditorium to watch films but a centre of historical importance of the city too. Being situated just beside the Hatibagan Xing (North Kolkata), Star Theatre definitely deserves a bow for its glorious legacy.
A film at Star Theatre (air conditioned), a look at the Art Gallery (upstairs) and Bengali cuisine at Bhajahari Manna (downstairs) is definitely a deadly combination.

A pricy piece of crap. This place's only selling point is its ardent traditional riches.

Maintenance is poor, staffs are not well mannered. Projection standerd is similar to 360p mobile video. 10% of the seats are broken or out of order due to some issue. And yes, they sell tickets for those seats.

Situations worsened since this business was taken over by some multiplex owning body.

It is one of the best cinema hall in hatibagan. The screen in the hall is quite large and clear. Sound system is good. Seating arrangement is also good. Apart from cinema hall there is a art gallery and there are also some restaurants.

The Ambience inside is good. The seats are comfortable as well. It's a decent experience in a cheap price. 80 RS for a ticket seems cheap in today's world. The outside of the theatre is crowded. Inside the theatre.there's ample amount of space. They also have balcony seats for those viewing from the top. Lovely

Beautiful place near hanthibagan. Start theatre good communication. On road and lots of activities in side of start theatre compound like marraghall, birthday party, etc. And many shops in side in of area. Over all good experience.

Will get cookie points for nostalgia value. Otherwise seats are terrible, acoustics are not up to the mark, huge waste of space throughout the building.yada yada yada

The theatre is not well maintained. Location is great so I visit often. Bathroom is never clean and the seats are not comfortable.

One of the govt sponsored cinema hall of Kolkata, it is one of the pride of North Kolkata, it used to be a theater once.then it was upgraded to a cinema hall. Mostly Bengali films and few Hindi films runs here. The tickets price is much lower than multiplexes.

Been here to watch Uri: The Surgical Strike. The seats are pretty uncomfortable and there's a peculiar odour inside the hall.

The place is nice with good ambiance. Price is reasonable. Comfort level is not like INOX or PVR, but it's best if compared to all other old theatre.
