This place is under WB Govt Fisheries department. Location is offbeat. Henry's island is a very beautiful beach. Rooms are not well maintained. Bathroom is clean but not maintained. Curtains in the rooms are not hygienic very dirty. AC and geyser is available. Food here is awesome. Food is bit costly as this place is in interior.
Behaviour is rude at the time of check out, imposed extra charges, faulty geyser, harrased for several times. Though they had online payment facilities they rejected us to provide that, miss information regarding payment. Rats in rooms.
The room service was not well and staff behaviour was not good either. Food quality was very mid yet overpriced and there is an entire horde of insects outside the room. The manager is very rude and overally, the service is not recommended at all.
Today is 26 March we are visiting the sundari tourism complex which is the West Bengal fishery department It created a beautiful homestay in Henry Island It is a very good place for a one day trip and vacation
Issues - poor hygiene, - have seen lizards and caterpillars in the room - AC doesn't work in the dining area and it's boiling and suffocating during the summers - charges 10% of the bill amount for room service
Pros - location is good, - sea beach is very near the guest house, - AC works well in the rooms - the bathroom is clean - overall food quality is good
I will probably not revisit this place, mostly due to hygiene issues
Rooms with Damps, very very remote location and if you want any cold drink also they don't have it. It is arround 3km away from locality, Those who don't like remote areas with limited options plz don't go. I personally preferred this type of holidays.
It is closely located to Henry island beach. The prices are reasonable and run my West Bengal fisheries department. You have option for ac and non ac. The bookings can be done at karuamoyee office. Coming to the property it’s decently maintained along with flora and fauna. The watch tower gives bird eye view of the mangrove forest. The food available here is awesome. There are two potential issues. One - for large order of food it needs to be placed well in advance. Second - you are not allowed to bathe in Henry beach due to order form lal bazar. Third no card or online payment modes accepted, only cash.
Rooms are not in the best condition but good enough. ACs are slow to work. Some rooms are super far away and you gotta walk a lot. Food is the best thing here. Open area so much to hang and walk around.
Remote place, no room service. Restaurant is 1.5 km away from our room.very bad experience.very much neglected place. Only food is fresh. Develovment is necessary.
The location is amazing.the nearest mangrove forest is just 2km away and takes around 30-35 min of walking.there is a lake just behind the bunglow rooms that are near the office complex.there is another wide complex unit that is much near to the beach.the beach is quiet and isolated hence all visitors are requested to AVOID trying to go near the mangrove trees even towards the beach as these are the areas where quicksand is found.also be very careful on the beach as there are areas of quicksand that cannot be recognised by most common people especially children.the room service is a very caring but a little slow.you will not be getting an intercom phone but you can contact the office anytime on official mobile phone.the food is very homely and very tasty.
Nice place to stay in the lap of nature. The road is very bad indeed inside the fisheries complex. There is a scope to improve the food quality and room service too.
Will recommend only if you love nature and serinity. Avoid this place if you need a lot onboard amenities. But pick this location if only calmness and homely ambience are your priority. Now some quick pros & cons

However, despite all the shortcomings this place might have, I would give it a for its amazing location and budget friendliness.
After the cyclones this place is more than miserable. Not recommended for anybody. Worst place I ever have stayed. Rooms are far away from the reception office. They took one and half hour to serve tea in the room. And visiting without own car or bike will be painful. The only good point is you will get a beach around one kilometre which is quite vergin.
Rooms are not maintain. Rain water coming from window joint. Water leakage from bathroom tap and basin. Proper road light not avilable. Roads are damage. Taking huge money but maintaince are poor. Guest house staff provide towel for foot mat and stop rain water from window joint. Bug? And many small insects are available in the room. Guest house staff provide my booking room to another person. At time of check in my booking room use by another family. After wait one hour from the check in time they provide my room. Total room floor fill up with water. They said that it is engineer fault. Please ck this points before you book the room.
Nice place to stay. Rooms are pretty good. Food quality is ok but you have to order much earlier. Nearby watchtower, surrounded by lots of bheris. Beach is nearby and walkable. Power cut is a problem here since generator do not operate everytime. Manager is not very helpful, staffs are moderate.
But still it is recommended for 2 nights stay preferably in winter.
Located inside a fishing farm and close to or rather housing a part of a mangrove park, is ideal for people searching for solitude. The room service is good, staff behaviour amicable, and food quality good. The maintenance and upkeep has scope for improvement.
Worst experience.there was no electricity at night and dg machine was also not working. Staffs were rude, unprofessional. Not helpful at all.room was filled with rain water. We can't sleep at night because of humidity and mosquitoes.they didn't care at all.experience was very bad.
Facilities are really good here, the watchtower of this housing provides with a splendid view and really fresh air cause of beach and mangrove forest ️
One of the best places to stay in Bakkhali zone if one likes to be away from hustle and bustle of the town and tourists. The rooms are spread out, especially the VIP ones are much away near the sea. It's like living in the Sunderban forests, surrounded by ponds for the fisheries. Definately will suggest if one is a nature lover, preferring secluded space. One can get back by 9 o'clock to Henry's island before the gate closes for the night. Food is also good but should be ordered in advance before coming.
1) extremely unprofessional manager 2) very limited food items. One cannot get customised preparations on request. If anyone is allergic to something, canteen will not going to make a special dish other than their thalis. 3) no staff other than the cooks, not even a single person to carry luggages 4) most of the ponds have dried up. Even not all the ac rooms are water-view. 5) no wifi, no boating, no such amenities which are mentioned in the govt website. Better not to stay at sundari complex. It's good for a half day visit only which we did earlier. This was our first night stay and we are utterly disappointed with the experience of their bad bad hospitality.
Extremely good value for money accommodation, away from the usual hustle and bustle of tourist spots. Located very close to Henry Island sea beach. Ideal for a calm and quiet holiday for a couple of days. Spacious air conditioned rooms with attached toilets (non-AC rooms also available). Food is really tasty and needs to be ordered in advance. Staff are courteous.
Usually beaches in kolkata are crowded. We stayed in Sundari tourist complex owned by govt fisheries department. You get to stay inside the fishery area. Quiet, serene location with easy access to Henry's island beach. If you want a quiet, fresh environment along with beach, you can definitely go for it. One disclaimer, you need private/booked vehicle to visit places outside the fishery area as from the gate, the complex is about 2.5km away.
Cleaning and food quality is good if you want to spend your weekend in a peaceful place then it will be the best destination for you as its very close to Kolkata. Weather is very pleasant and beach is less crowded with beautiful white sand. But 3 star for room services, no complementary tea or water is available. You have to pay for everything with GST. If you ordered food in your Room that's may be just beside there Office still you have to pay Taxes for that food.
It is beautiful. 3 kms from main road. Lots of fish pond here. See beach just 500 mts from new building. Parking available anytime. Behavior of staff is good. Watch tower is in complex. Bakkhali sea beach is 7 kms from here. The beach of this complex is nice and lonely.
We stayed at Sundari Tourist Complex during our visit to Henry's Islandin June 2021. Our group stayed in the 4 cottages which were very spacious, but average maintenance. There were too many insects inside the room, shabby & used blankets/quilts. But this is at the best location (better than Mangrove complex which is situated before Sundari Complex). The sea beach is nearest to this tourist complex. The food (only the main meals like lunch & dinner) is very good & tasty but the attitude of the receptionist is alarmingly disappointing. They flatly refused to cook 1 plate chicken chowmein for a child (in our group) & there was no ounce of chicken in the chicken pakoras which we had asked them to make for evening snacks. This type of attitude and service needs to be improved.
I would have given this tourist complex 5 stars but because of their attitude & evening snacks where they just gave us besan ka pakoda instead of chicken pakoda I give them 2 stars.

Good quality of rooms. Friendly staff. Booking is done online only. We reached without booking and were made to book online to avail rooms. Excellent food. It is located at 5 mins walking distance from Henry Island beach. Totally isolated and peaceful place.
Booking an SFDC resort has been a great experience previously, and this time the experience had remained equally pleasing. The whole Henry's island has only one property, and this is not exactly what you will call a resort. The main trade of this organisation is fisheries and the 'Bheri's are plenty. The food, undoubtedly, is awesome. Having chicken or egg or veg will be a no go. Ask for the freshest options for the fish and you shall not be disheartened at any cost. One major point, it is not recommended book it unless you are getting your own vehicle. The main Street is 3 km away and the nearest convenience store is 2 km away. Book it for good food, great lodging and a peaceful weekend.
Terrible place to stay at. Lizards, rats, snakes and wild pigs. Everything in your room! Very poor service of the staff. Rooms are very very average and food quality is disastrous. Dont visit this place. It will ruin your holiday mood completely and also your money will be wasted.
Peaceful stay in serene surroundings away from hustle of city life. Beach is walking distance through mangroves. Lovely food. Great for people who want to enjoy away from crowd.
The tourist complex is located within the area of the West Bengal Fisheries dept. With ponds on both sides, the view from the room is beautiful. The rooms are a bit far from the dining area, but it is manageable. There is not much variety of food items on the menu but the quality is good. You will get fish like Rohu, Bhetki etc freshmy caught.
Awesome place to stay for 2 - 3 days with family and friends. Very calm and cool place. Polution free, good food, reasonable price, service is so well, all staffs are very cooperative. At present it not a island. The place is connected with main land 3 km far from freasergang costal police station. Henry's island is under SFDC (state fishery development corporation) under govt of West Bengal. The cotages are made and maintain by SFDC. Little bit costly but nice environment over there. Booking system of cotages totally online. Fooding facility is available here.

Awesome experience. Best place to stay near bakkhali. You can have fresh fish, crab, prawn from state fisheries dept pond itself. But you have to have your own car for local sight seen, else it would be dificult for anyone to reach this place and roam around. There is an option to hire a van from bakkhali bus stand but they will only drop in this place. The sea shore is just few min walking from the hotel. One can visit this place any time except rainy season. Food taste is awesome.
Excellent natural view. Lake side one storied buildings (Mud house 1 and 2) are best to stay. Foods are moderately priced but very testy. Only problem is there is no other shops nearby other than official canteen. Canteen order window closes 3 to 4 hour prior to lunch/dinner. So you can't change menu or get extra plate of fish or chicken or any food if you need.
A good rest house maintained by Fisheries dept.with wide range of options. Easy on pockets and a good place to stay at. Dormitory also available for solo, student travellers. Reasonable price, good location and nice service.
Apart from fresh & tasty food this property need to improve its service, basic cleanliness, hygiene in the dining hall & decor.tap water facility in the entrygate of ac rooms for washing feet after beach walk. Need to change small washbasins of bathrooms in ac rooms. The driver we booked for station drop was unprofessional & reckless.he speeded the car @90 km/hr, before 3km of namkhana station he dropped us on the highway as the gas operated car was not moving at all. So we missed our train. I personally requesting to the authority to check the services otherwise the property will loose all its guests very soon
This is a great weekend tourist destination. The cottages are situated beside the bheris and amidst vast stretches of mangrove swamps. Nice Bengali food is available in the restaurant on advance orders. One can go to the sea beach walking through the mangrove trees. However, recently a concrete road has been constructed upto the beach, which I believe, have led to the destruction of many mangrove swamps, thus reducing the beauty and thrill of the road leading to the sea. This area is also a great destination for the wildlife photographers, birders and nature lovers.
Rooms are clean, fitted with Guisers. Though there TVs, but those were not working. Food quality is very good. Room service not very good. Safely and security is unquestionable as this is run by WB Fisheries Development Corporation, a Govt of WB undertaking. Another thing to keep in mind that there are no market close to this complex. If u need something you have hire a Toto (e-riscaw), nearest market is 6km far. Scenic beuty is awsome. If any likes tranquility with natural beauty that a place to visit. Point of attraction mangrove forest and peaceful sea beach.
Great place to stay with family and enjoy the beach without the problem of the beach being overcrowded. Another thing is that the place is also great for camping as it is far away from the main town.
