Suntalekhola, Samsing WBFDC Tourist Lodge

The place is beautiful and can be called an off-beat destination. Good for a one time visit. However there are lots of leeches all over.
Please be careful while you visit Suntalekhola.

Pros:

1. Location: top notch. True nature lovers would love this place. Please visit this place during monsoon. We loved it.

2. Rooms: we stayed in the cottages and they were spacious and beautiful.

3. Near by attractions: Although I am not really hopping guy but I would definitely recommend all to visit Laliguras view point while staying here. You may also visit jhalong-bindu and we did but would not recommend the same since you won't absorb it while on the go.

Cons:

1. Overpriced: WBFDC charged 2800/- per night for cottages. As I have already mentioned the place, rooms are great but it's hard to justify the rate for their kind of pathatic service and maintenance (you won't get a welcome kit, too). I haven't seen the manager of the property during two days. Very limited number of staff are available there.

2. Not a "tourist" destination*: Although I have zero complaint against this but if some one wants a place with lot of activities then he/she may get disappointed. Also, I would recommend to visit this place in group both for security reason and also you will enjoy the leisure hours gossiping together.

All in all a nice place to enjoy nature but definitely requires attention from higher authorities.

Situated in an unexpected and unusual end of the road location. Rooms are good, spacious and clean. This is a forest department property and not a lifestyle resort, so don't expect a 5 star service. But the staffs are courteous.

Situated just on the banks of the mountain river within the jungle.

Very nice, cozy greeny and beautiful place surrounded with birds and trees. People for serving are very polite and friendly. Food is good and location is very enchanted. Booking is done online. And by private vehicle and/or rented car one can reach here from NJP. And if you want to hire any car from here, from bazar area one can get the vehicle to rent. From WBFDC this bazar/cab stand area is 1km distance.

Excellent location. The seclusion from the rest of the world is a calming experience. The huts are well maintained and the food is good. The staff weren't too cooperative though and display a sense of entitlement that i have never seen in any of the other WBFDC tourist lodges.

Suntalekhola or Suntaley Khola (also Suntaleykhola) is a village and a tourist spot in the Gorubathan CD block in the Kalimpong Sadar subdivision of Kalimpong District in the state of West Bengal, India
It is known for its landscape with green tea gardens, hills and forests, which attract a lot of tourists. There is a hanging bridge over the Murti river that provides access to the lodges or cottages of the Forest Department.

The place itself is of extraordinarily beauty, surrounded by forest covered hills. A stream flows next to the place, and one has to walk on a little hanging bridge to get to the resort. Such a Wonderful place I have ever seen.
Here, "Suntale" means ORANGE and "Khola" means " RIVER". A check post will be seen after crossing the winding road from Samsing for about 5 km. And from here, it's only about one kilometre walking distance from here. The surrounding mountains and the green forest are leaning and casting an unblinking gaze. A bridge surrounded by a hanging iron net.
Govt Resorts take the most soothing locations to setup and this location is certainly one of the most picturesque one. Upfront lies a hanging bridge, which upon crossing you get to the resort after walking few feet beside a small stream. Coming to the Resort itself, it has 8 cottages, one suite (Commonly known as Super Deluxe) which consists 2 rooms with one dining. Resort has some tents setup as well. Noticably the super deluxe cottage seats at the top from which you get absolute gorgeous view of the resort and the Hills and the Forest.
The whole of the day can be spent looking at the surroundings. So, Peacefull Environment and Beautiful also. Hills sometimes covered with cloud, scenic garden on the slope with cottages around with a Stream.
There are several Deluxe cottages suitable for two and one Super Deluxe bangalow for four. The rooms have air conditioner, running water, and electrical geyser. There can be power cuts when none of the electrical equipments work. The AC is not required for temperature because the place is always cool.
But there are lots of bugs and large mosquitoes outside which would enter the rooms through open windows.
Food was cooked such it felt more like home made. (Not typical Restaurant type and neither fancy food available). We had Meal for lunch, Roti and Chicken for dinner and Maggi for the breakfast. One thing to notice, Since the place is very remote, and very few staffs available in the resort. So, keep your necessary stuffs at your hand always specially medicines etc.
If you want to surround yourself with absolute silence and nature, don't expect TV with channels running spicy soaps! Then, for you, it's the suitable place to make a perfect Veccation, which become always memorable in your life.
Amenities like Geysers worked fine and a necessity considering it could be cold in the morning or during night.
Outside the rooms one can find lots of butterflies, spiders (golden orb), birds, and occassionally bears.

I would have love to give 5star but service and maintenance are not good. Otherwise, the place is amazing. It's so beautiful that you do not need to go elsewhere.

Don't drink their water! Buy sealed bottles of mineral water, or you may get some stomach bug (even though the regular water passes through a filter)!
Room service is practically non-existent, with a couple of poor local contractual employees trying to serve the guests. The Govt of Waste Bengal has turned the forest department into a limited liability corporation to avoid its liabilities, but their employees (range manager and above) keep carrying the authority, entitlement, and arrogance of Govt officials.

Beautiful place for taking break from crowds. Situated beside 'Newra valley' forest. It is like a small valley. One can find peace here. U can hear cricket chirping, birds cooing and river gliding in her own will. There also has a hanging bridge.
Most of all it is the beautiful place surrounded by nature. Everyone who needs some lonely time can go here. I guaranteed you will fall love with this place.
