Tamarind's menu is a treasure trove of South Indian delicacies, ranging from classic dosas and idlis to flavorful curries and biryanis. Each dish is a testament to the culinary expertise of the chefs, who skillfully balance spices and flavors to create a symphony of taste that tantalizes the palate.

I've been here many times and always loved the food. Non-veg food from various places of southern India is still not very commonly available elsewhere in Kolkata. The only disappointment is that they have stopped serving the delectable coconut paan that they used to serve as mouth freshner.

Food is okay but the south indian is really bengali chinese south indian. No longer the tamarind of yore. Portions are good.

Seriously speaking if you are longing for authentic South Indian Food then this is one of right places in Kolkata out of only few remaining since last few years. The Food in absolute veg flavours too gives enough pleasure to your Taste Buds.

Mutton Boneless Semi Gravy cooked in Onion, Tomato and Coconut cream was to die for. The Curry leaves "Chokha" was the magical touch.
9.75/10 is my rating along with plain tandoori roti and a Nilgiri Mixed Vegetables Korma was another yummy dish.

Worst food in terms of taste, quality and quantity. They have a common gravy which they use for all items both veg and non veg dishes, food is not fresh.worst table service. Would not recommend.

This is an awesome place for dinning with absolute delicious indian food. Should try the meat and naan out here just loved it and the quantity is good too. Had an amazing time at this place, both tandoori and kebab were really good and juicy.better than finger kicking good the staff were really courteous and ambience is just perfectly cozy and snug.next time I'm gonna try the south indian offerings

The food is awesome. Finger licking. Whether it is authentic, I cannot vouch for that and really, I do not care. The Appam, Malabar paratha, and two mutton dishes, great and sumptuous for two. And it is value for money.

The food we ordered there was Chicken biriyani, chicken labandaar and tandoori roti.
So, firstly about chicken biriyani. It was good, they add barista on the top and there was 3 boneless chicken pcs on it, no potato or egg! But it was very tasty, and biriyani includes a raita which was nice as well.
Now chicken lababdar, it was so so, i personally didnt like it too much, but it had 5 pcs of chicken and those are soft and eatable.
Now the ambience, its nice.
Staffs were all masked. But there was no sanitisation process going on.

It was an amazing place that I found accidentally, the staff was courteous, and the food was completely mind blowing.the best thing that I liked is that the food had taste was rich but there was not even a slight oily feel in my mouth after eating as I get in most restaurants nowadays.must visit!

We had gone for Onam sadya but it was not upto the mark. We had to ask for the items and we had to sit for 45 min at the table before the items started coming in. Overcrowded and badly managed.
Their nv dishes are normally good but yesterday it was not a good experience.

Can't go wrong with the food. However, the waiter did forget to bring our drinks. We forgot too. Didn't add it to the book though.

Very impressive, ambience lighting, quality of food everything is just what one person needs. They have lots of variety starting from South Indian to North Indian and Mughlai dishes. We have tried prawn cutlet and chicken dosa; both of them are good in quality and quantity.

Perhaps one of the best South Indian restaurants in Kolkata. Very good food quality, taste, service, atmosphere. Must recommendation.

Excellent food, authentic south indain delicacy tried so far. Ordered thali here, all the items served can be termed excellent individually.
Suggestion to include filter cofee in the menu options.reasonable cost and ambience good. Maintains cleanliness.

I liked avial and the food served here it's not at all crowded. A good place to bring your family and friends. We had a family get together on 25th December Xmas day it had no customers except the 4 of us enjoyed its near cleam food is hot yummy and has both 'south and north Indian cuisine.

The taste and quality of the food served is brilliant, quantity of the food served is sufficient. Among the south indian dishes, Hyderabadi Murgh Biriyani is just amazing and delicious, malabar chicken also tastes great.

Went to celebrate pongal festival. Ordered non veg thali. The appam and chicken chettinad was to die for

It was a great experience having a working lunch with colleagues yesterday! We had ordered Stuffed Pomfret, Chapli Kebab and Mutton Sheekh Kebab as starters! While for Maim course we ordered Kali Dal, Naan, Prawn Balchao (Goanese), Chicken Xacuti (Goanese) and Bibinca (Goanese Dessert) to close with our meal. For once we realised that Tamarind was larger than its perception of being South Indian Restaurant. The items were delectable, extremely tasty and for once we could not believe our palates! The service is impeccable! Kudos to the team and I hope that they continue to keep up their good work. Cheers

An upmarket, slightly small sized South Indian restaurant with a lovely ambience. Being a vegetarian, I found their Malabar paratha and Chettinad style very tasty. Complimentary paan and buttermilk sweetens the experience.
Their Nolen Gur ice cream is amazing.

We went fod the super Kerala cuisine, especially the stew and the crab curry, but not-so-south cuisine is also available. Great period decor. Con: have to climb up a lot of steps. Didn't like: the buttermilk offered as a welcome drink (was more spicy than sour)

The perfect combination of south Indian and north Indian food. Mutton stew, appam, payasam and shahi tukra are must try.

'Tamarind' has been taking the residents of City of Joy on a mouth watering Odyssey of South Indian non-vegetarian cuisine from Coorg and Mangalore in particular for quite some time. Classy ethnic decor sans pompousness, adds a unique dimension to the place. Located near Deshapriya Park (on Sarat Bose Road), the cosy and well- ventilated restaurant offers a wide variety of Coorgi and Mangalorean specialities like Kodava Mutton Curry (tender and succulent and huge chunks of mutton cooked in spicy gravy), perfectly done Appams or thin rice cakes, jaggery filled coconut payasam with cardamom flakes topping for dessert and many more. The curd drink served at the outset sets the mood for taking a plunge into the mildly flavoured and spiced world of Coorgi Kitchen. If you want a fine dining experience with novelty, then Tamarind is surely the place. Average cost for 2= Rs. 1000 approximately.

Ohh it is too good in taste.appam.mutton stew.and dessert double ka meetha. Do try all the appams.also they give welcome drink buttermilk and in the end pan.bit on the costly side but very tasty and good ambience

Oh this place is just over the top. Lovely food and lovelier service. Generally most restaurant believe in dirty and unwelcoming atmosphere for south Indian food, but not this place.

The restaurant had excellent service We decided on SouthIndian cuisine though regular Indian Tandoori cuisine was also available on the menu. Being a regular visitor to Chennai the South Indian flavors of the dishes we order were quite authentic but less peppery/spicy than What is served in Chennai The stew was the best dish I had. The appams were stretchy and not all well made or finished. The paneer chettinad was good but could have been more peppery. The brownie solid as a brick is a NoNo. The service made up for some of the misgivings in the quality of the food

Highly sofisticated family restaurant. Loved the ambience. The waiters are very friendly and co-operative. Highly recommend this place. Chicken Malabar, Chicken Chettinad, Appam and Coorg Mutton kabab are some must tries. Also lookout for the Thali at just Rs. 399

This restaurant boasts of one of the best south indian malabar dishes prepared in Kolkata. It shatters the common myth prevalent here that idli and dosa are the only south indian dishes. It was good to see Mangalorean dishes like tawa fry in the menu.
I would like to suggest that the inclusion of ghee roast in the menu would be a joy to us Kolkatans and is going to rev up the sales even more!
