The Elgin, Darjeeling – Since 1887

We had an amazing stay at Elgin Darjeeling. The location was perfect providing easy access to the Mall Road and the joy ride train station. The hotel was neat and clean. The interiors looked fab as it is an heritage property and they have maintained it really well. The room itself was pretty, it looked like something straight of a cosy novel. The only downside was not being able to light up the fireplace due to smoke. However, overall it was a great experience and we would highly recommend this property to anyone visiting Darjeeling.

We were promised a room overlooking the Himalayas. Room we got overlooked roads and rooms of hotel workers. We were not able to open shades during our entire stay. It would have been better if we had just booked a standalone hotel room.

Room was on 4th floor with no lifts. There is no mention about this fact anywhere. People who have difficulty in climbing stairs or are travelling with elderly people, please take note. Being an old structure, the stairs itself are big to climb.

Unstructured rooms with no charging point.we were provided with an extension cord to connect with one remote plug somewhere hiden inside the TV desk. TV is placed in such a way that it is not convenient to watch and ofcourse you could either watch TV or connect the extension cord!

There is nothing to do in the "resort" especially for children.

Limited food options with last order to be placed by 7.30 pm!

To summarise, not at all recommended to stay here. They charge you atrocious price for a " Heritage Property" tag. Having stayed a few times in Darjeeling, I can assure there are much better places to stay at this price point.

P. S: I noticed a standard response from Elgin to my wife's review that we should contact the reception for a resolution. To think that we wouldn't have done so is so immature. Please rest assured that we brought up all our concerns with your people on the first day itself but with no resolution.

So much for the "heritage property" tag. Rooms provided on 4th floor without a lift. We were promised a mountain view room but the only view we have now is overlooking another window.

Room has one charging point somewhere under the TV. We had to request an extension cord to charge pur phones. Rooms itself is out of shape with no way that you can wat ch even a TV.

Dine in last order is at 7.30!

This is just review from half a day today. I am sure the experience will continue to grow in next two days.

Absolute waste of money. Pls don't stay here. There are much better options at this price.

P. S: we note a response from the owner that to contact the reception to sort out the issues. To think that we would not have done do is in itself so immature. We were pure cheated with this room after being promised a room overlooking the hills.

Visited early december. A beautiful Property with Unprofessional Staffs at every corner of the Hotel! Very poor attitude, casual behavior. Simply disappointed

I had the opportunity to stay at The Elgin, Darjeeling Spa Resort, and while the surrounding area may be crowded, the moment you step onto the property, it offers a different experience. The hospitality provided by the staff was commendable, and they were courteous and attentive throughout my stay.

As a vegetarian, I found the food options to be decent but limited. Unfortunately, I cannot comment on the non-vegetarian dishes, except to say that they were very limited. However, I must highlight that the quality of the vegetarian food was good.

During my stay, I had the pleasure of experiencing both the premier room and the suite. I was impressed with the spaciousness and comfort of the rooms. They provided a cozy and comfortable atmosphere, and the added bonus was the great mountain view from the room window. However, it is worth noting that the rooms did not have fans or air conditioning. Fortunately, during my stay, the weather was pleasant, so it wasn't a major concern.

The property itself is well maintained, and the ambiance reflects its heritage. They also have a spa facility at the property, which offers a range of treatments. However, it's important to note that the spa staff seemed to be limited. It would be advisable to make spa appointments well in advance to ensure availability.

One drawback of the property is the limited parking space and the narrow road leading to it. If you are bringing your car, parking can be a bit of a hassle due to the space constraints and the narrow road. It's something to keep in mind if you plan on driving to the property.

Overall, my stay at The Elgin, Darjeeling Spa Resort was enjoyable. The hospitality, comfortable rooms, and beautiful mountain views made it a pleasant experience. While there are a few minor drawbacks, such as limited vegetarian options and parking constraints, they do not overshadow the positive aspects of the property. If you're looking for a peaceful retreat in Darjeeling, The Elgin offers a cozy and comfortable stay amidst the bustling surroundings.

Dream to stay in this property is all in vain creates so pain.breads were tasted by cockroaches first, few options for vegetarians, pathetic service, rooms were stinking, will not suggest to anyone

We stayed in the heritage wing of the hotel. Wooden floors with beautiful carpets and elegant furniture- all give a majestic look. Bed was very comfortable and hot water bags were provided. So the night was very comfortable. Bathroom was very good with a bath tub. We had good complementary buffet breakfast. Very tasty food. We enjoyed our stay here.

Its a heritage hotel. Mall is just 3 mins away but kanchenjunga is not visible from here.
Lots of green, breakfast is love.
Rooms are bigger than rest of the hotel. Highly recommend. ️

Amazing location with great hospitality that's what this place is. Established during 1887 this place offers a classy stay with amazing hospitality by all its staff members. We stayed for a week along with two very naughty kids. But the staffs were very cooperative and made sure we have a comfortable stay. The bar section and seating area offers a very comfortable feel. Must try the green Elgin drink here for non alcoholic people.

Overall breakfast spread can be improved as they offer the same spread everyday. Some cakes and pastries can be added.

Do not miss the amazing guard dog CASPER! He will great you with all his amazing energy and love.

But it was a classy stay and we all had an amazing time. Thanks team!

Overpriced. Sure the heritage angle is interesting and the location is great with all attractions in a 30min walk radius. But the mountain view is a bit disappointing (no view on Kanchenjunga), the breakfast room is in the dark, the bed sheets were not changed when we arrived (around 6pm), and there were not enough hot water to fill the bathtub. Again all those things would be OK in the end, if it were priced at least 30% lower.

They certainly have a great asset, but they need to work it up a little to give it back the full extent of its heritage splendour (and price accordingly)

Well this is a very late review from my side. I visited the property during Novenas 2021. On the very first day, the commode jet spray broke (which was already in a bad shape). I repeatedly asked the manager to do something about it. And let me tell you, I stayed there for 3 nights. But the jet spray was still not fixed by them even after telling them repeatedly. And on top of that, the behaviour of the manager was extremely unprofessional. I’m visiting Darjeeling again this month but I won’t even consider staying in this property again.

Amazing resort experience. Polite staff. And the view from the room are just mind blowing. Bask in the sun and have a hot cuppa of Darjeeling tea!

One of the best hospitality services room, food, services, location everything is mind-blowing.

Location is perfect near the mall. The food options in the dinner buffet could have been better. They should serve some delicacies which are local or belong to the location.

There was a black out when we reached and was told the generator malfuction. That was bit a hectic. But rooms were good. A bit over priced during weekends. The breakfast there were served was very good.

Everything was perfect. Starting from check in process to check out process.
Food was amazing and rooms were near and clean. I travelled with my mom and my lil girl and they really made us comfortable with their smile and nice gesture. You can go ahead with the stay in this hotel. Its worth the experience if your budget allow.

It was nice but when you visit a luxurious property you expect a bit extra, that extra part was missing in all the departments.

I stayed here for 2 nights with my family. The hotel is a heritage property and was the summer capital of the King of Coochbehar in the imperial times.
You surely will find glimpses of heritage architecture in some parts of the hotel. The hotel is well located near the market area.
The room allotted to us was spacious enough, but was located on the 2nd floor of the building, which had no lift. The room was dirty in places and the service was lousy. It had dirt in nooks and corners, as if it had been wanting a proper cleaning atleast since months. The bedsheets and blankets provided were dirty. On request they were changed with another set of bedsheets and blankets which again were dirty.
The toilet seat was dirty and had stains of blood when the room was handed over to us, which upon informing was cleaned.
Special mention of Housekeeping staff is very important, since they are only available during daytime (as informed to us). When they came for room service for the day, they merely removed the older bedsheets and dusted and again put the same old sheet. Upon noticing that, we had to request them to put a new bedsheet on the bed.
The restaurant staff is courteous and did entertain special requests as far possible, but the food is majorly ordinary.
Overall, only a heritage property but not worth the price.

Worthless experience. The rooms were quiet dirty and the food is just a waste. I have seen better food in small shops and there is no point to book and waste money on the elgin darjeeling

I kept on requesting for my refund evn now I want them to be courteous and give us the refund as we didn’t use their property to stay because it wasn’t worth staying
As we booked 3rooms for 3days we kept on requesting for the refund or adjustment or to give us appropriate rooms but no one has answered yet as it is a huge amount all pre booked and paid but no one over their is responsible this is highly unethical. Whosoever is the owner

We had a great stay at the elgin. The property is a bit old but the hotel staff is very polite and courteous. A bit pricey but definitely worth the royal feeling you get after staying. The buffet has a lot of options.

We booked three rooms for our family in June 2022. The hotel looks completely different from the pictures on their website. The rooms are shabby and archaic.

The hotel has no lift, we were offered rooms on the 3rd floor which was inaccessible to my husband, a senior citizen with rod in his leg. Despite requesting for several hours, no alternative was offered as they claimed the property is fully booked.

We were left with no choice but to seek accommodation elsewhere. We pleaded the hotel for a refund. The staff at front desk acknowledged our genuine problem and assured the management will likely issue a refund. However, after leaving the hotel, the management showed their true colours. They shamelessly declared they will have full retention of our money and refused to refund any amount.

We raised the matter again to the management but their attitude was to simply make a profit without any apathy towards well being of their customers.

Reflects extremely poor customer attitude and rigid thought process of the management.

Positives:
- the Room, the property, the spa, & the staff are great. Would recommend a visit.
- The property is very conveniently located. Easy to go to good places just by walk.

Negatives:
- The food menu is a bit confusing. For eg, Phulkas & Paratha is listed under Dal. Chowmein is listed as a starter when it's a main-course.
- Food menu is also a bit limited considering this is a 5-star hotel.
- Breakfast buffet has a decent spread, but the live counter items take a long time to be served & staff need to be reminded multiple times of orders and they get overwhelmed quite quickly. I observed that a number of customers had to reiterate their orders multiple times before being served. This needs to improve given the price that customers are paying.

The hotel is hopeless in terms of quality. Rooms are stuffy, without view and bear a strange stinking smell. Staff / management are quite rude and change their behaviour after collecting booking amount. They forced my father, a senior citizen with mobility issues, to climb 3 level of stairs. This despite requesting for an accessible room. Food is quite ordinary. Definitely not recommend at all.

Lovely place! Has a warm welcoming atmosphere especially with Casper the dog:) Stayed in the Tenzing Norgay house of memories and it was wonderful reliving all those memories of Tenzing Norgay from the pictures on the walls. Within walking distance from the main market, great facilities in the rooms, great food and very pleasant staff.

Overall a good hotel at this price point. Only thing I wasn't happy was about the room services and washroom fittings. At this price point this could have been improved.

Also, dinner ordering time of 8pm was a slight turndown, they however justify it with good quality and blah blah, but sometimes it's a big let down.

Overall one can stay, and it's very near to the mall road.

I had been on a vacation.
Had stayed at Elgin, gangtok.we liked the service there, so made our darjeeling bookings in the same Elgin group.
But we're disappointed there
But the location is good.
It's very accessible by walk to the MG Marg. And many eateries.

Ideal for dates. Usually less crowded. Candle lit/faint lit interiors. Pretty much English touch to everything.

Although it's a heritage hotel, it seems like the property is not that well maintained. The menu and spa booklet was torn, dirty and seemed like some kid had drawn all over it. The bathtub is only a showpiece as there's water crisis situation in Darjeeling. Curtains and sofa didn't seem clean. Rooms are much smaller than shown in the picture online. Staff is very polite and generous. Breakfast was nice. Room heater was a plus point. Overall experience was average. Not worth that much money.

The hotel room is very cosy. I really like it. The bed is queen size and good for two. But they give extra folding bed for one extra person. There is a very cute baby cot which can be used for bady upto 2 years age. The room had fireplace also. But view from the window of the room was not very great. The window was half covered with roof.
The location of the hotel is very good. It is walking distance from Mall. They're maintaining a very beautiful garden.
But the service of the hotel is not upto the mark. For every needs you have to call reception and they often don't attend the call. Breakfast is very ordinary. If you expect continental breakfast then the heritage hotel certainly disappointed you. Normal bread, two other types of bread, chicken sausage, three four types of eggs and tea or coffee that's all and same menu every day. But if you like north or south indian breakfast then there is plenty of it.

The service, rooms, food was terrible. In food there were no choices in starters there was one veg and non veg starter. There wifi was not even working.this was a terrible stay

Other than the charm and gusto there’s little to like about Elgin in Darjeeling. Rooms are tiny, cramped and inadequate. Beds are uncomfortable and incredibly small - I’m writing this having stayed up through the night. The use of a stupid foam mat under the carpets in the room (presumably to protect the ancient wood) made them death traps! Everyone including the missus, my 2 year old and I have slipped multiple times! In the end just removed the carpet for good. Breakfast is nothing more than you can expect in a half decent cafe. Food otherwise ordinary.

They overcharge you only for the property …. They maintained the property well, but pathetic service. Food is over expensive and there is no provision for breakfast and the only option is buffet which is 2000 per head!
So if you want a good property with ok service and over expensive food, you are good to go

Good property, with average maintanence. But if you are used of high level of services, dont expect that. The staff seems either undertrained or the attitude is not to serve the guest.
Right before staying here I stayed at Elgin Gangtok, and it was an amazing visit with great services.

Not at all worth staying there after spending a good amount of money. They charge as per 5 star hotel but in maintaining they have failed miserably. Even bed sheets are not clean, spider web around the hanging lights in room. The only place well decorated was there reception and bar! Not everyone who are going there would have entered in bar. In fact breakfast are not that good. Everything is so much costly. People spend a lot of money to stay there just for it's heritage but probably they have taken this fact granted.

We have booking for 6 rooms for 3 nights
Pathetic on the management part they pushed us to the less important rooms on the ground and lower ground floor
When requested we were simply denied no room is available and above all we all waited for 30 min for their response bur nobody responded.
Then we had to carry our own luggage to our rooms

Property is good but service, fooding n all is pathetic.
1 of the expensive property in Darjeeling but not atall worth it. Breakfast spread is bad. Very limited items in menu. No sanitation of the room. Cleaning department pathetic. Got UG's of previous visitors in the cupboard n leftover in the refrigerator.

Not good at all with so much of room, s price, all old facilities, heritage property no lift you have use stairs not advisable for aged people and if you get no views rooms then nothing painful then it. I stayed for two days first day no view room and next day view room given. But not good experience at all after paying so much.

This is amazingly beautiful place to stay. All of their staffs are very co-operating and they do understand each customers need & their individual choices & they always fulfil every customers need.

The food items are really awesome. Specially their personalised desert which they prepare in their bakery. I strongly recommend their apple juice because of its freshness & originality. If you try this along with other apple juices which are available in the market, you can very easily spot the genuine differences between two.

I’ve personally met the owner and discussed couple of their services. The owner is so good and only because of this everything what Elgin offers are always good.

I strongly recommend everyone to visit and stay for couple of days to experience their amazingly best services.

We stayed here as a family and really enjoyed the hospitality and vintage decor in the hotel. The only gripe is the shortage of wait staff for breakfast and dinner - although the team tries very hard to make sure we were well accommodated but it is obvious that more staff is required, especially during peak hours.

Room was just Okay washroom was clean, mountain view was good. Food served was okay but don't opt breakfast buffets as they usually have just 1 or 2 option available however if its complementary go for it. Location was nice.

We had a wonderful stay in Elgin, one of the finest properties in Darjeeling, hospitality at its best, Mr. Badal is an amazing person extremely helpful, he is the General Manager for Elgin

2. The bathroom had hair when I checked in. I left the keys with front desk to clean. I came back after 4 hours, new front desk staff and bathroom not cleaned by then

4. The drapes, carpet are as old as possible, and worn-out
5. Breakfast one morning was soggy dosa, lumpy thick pancakes, fruit juice out of a cartoon
6. NO BODY was wearing a mask
Shame for a hotel that charges so much

Worse is staff attitude

Good. Parking available for self driven cars. Biggest drawback of Elgin is that you don't get a view of the Kanchenjunga. You have to step out of the hotel, walk up to the mall to catch a glimpse of The Sleeping Buddha.

The place is dosent match with today's life, it's old style and many people will like it, but that means they have to maintain the balance btwn old and new, the staff is very helpful, the beds are queen size, not good for 2 people, wifi issue and other things

Excellent Hotel and a must stay, best experience of Old hertiage palace. Mall road is at walking distance from this location.

Food is absolutely not good especially for Indian people, poor service, hospitality. Only room decor is the only nice thing about the hotel, even spa is also not of premium quality. Poor experience despite of high prices of everything. Everything from water to coffee is chargeable, nothing is complementary. Food choice is worst, break fast items, fruits, juices, least choice is provided. Decor is the only best thing.

A regal experience. The colonial bunglow, the English decor, the classic service make the stay memorable. Food may not be its best aspect, but the breakfast is quite nice. The best part of it all, however, is the quiet evenings in the lap of heritage that is an invitation for an imaginative soul to conjure an old, charmed world away from the maddening reality.with a book and a drink.
