Location is superb, rooms need maintenance but overall good, service is very very Bad. You have to carry your luggage to your cottage which is a daunting task. No help whatsoever

Excellent location with lack of maintenance. Leeches, spiders (big, small, black, yellow, green, brown) are every where, even in rooms.

Best place to stay in Lava. Forest ranger is a nice and helpful person. Food quality is very good. Beauty and serenity of this place is awesome. Caretaker is so helpful that he spoke to bus driver to reserve seat for us until we reach lava bus stand while returning.

Standard cottages are not satisfactory at all. Rooms aren't well maintained. Window locks aren't working. There are gaps between floor and main door. Causing cold air to seep into the room.

It's a piece of heaven such a beautiful place and the moment the clouds enter the resort, its breathtaking the view of Kanchenjunga is too beautiful in the morning and the night sky - probably the best i hv seen so far the whole resort is so so beautiful i wish i could stay there.

Nice ambience with nature and best part if you want complete peace and want to spend time with nature and fresh air.on main road, Market place, and monastery. U will enjoy the place.

The location is beautiful and thats it. The service is zero. Service is outsourced by WB Govt and the service providers charge double with no bare minimum facilities. No room heaters, even in chilling cold, no packaged drinking water, only tap water they give for drinking and no electric kettle. No power backup. Generator is only provided between 6pm to 10pm. You cannot use geyser if there is no power in the morning.

The place is a heaven but remember everything has its ups and downs. I visited on 28th December 2022. It's bitting cold and the plan was very sudden. I drove from kolkata.to.siliguri.buxa.jayanti.new alipurduar.lava.rishop. It was a beauty. Coming to this place. It's uphill and the roads inside the campus is not at all maintained.when asked why they said forest department has no funds.wow.parking area is good and you will not face any issues. The reception is nice and you are greater with a smile. Note the entry that u make on the day u enter is all.so basically u just chk in and no chk out is needed. Rooms are okish. The stayed in semi delux cottage number 4. It's very cold inside and surprisingly they do not provide any room heater in thar minus temperature.which is very bad.and they will make arrangements for heater and charge u 500 inr for every day. Food is okish.do not expect much and charges are high compared to quality and quantity.so it's a good idea to have food outside if u can.but if u r traveling with elderly.and kids.then it becomes a challenge as walking down hill in very bad and risky when the road conditions inside are so bad. So be careful with u r elderly folks and kids. God forbids if they slip and fall.it will be vary nasty and remember there is no medical facility in lava. So when u travel I would advise carry a room heater and first aid kit for sure. Avoid thos delux 4 as it was water leakage in the room. Rest all. I really do not know what to comment.but the total facility is outsourced to locals and they will find all ways to take out money from you. The govt really does not have a supervision into the beautiful property that they have. You can get netter facility and quality of stay in that price outside which I searched out later. If u have questions further.pls ask.

Rooms and grounds need maintenance and Pushpa needs to be sacked immediately. She does not work and is not present most of the time. The ranger was very helpful. He fixed the shower himself, braving heavy rainy weather.

The location is beautiful. That's it!
Service zero. WB Govt tourism is a SCAM! The agents charge double than the room prices.
The cottage prices are billed at 2250 per night but the agent charged 5500 for 3 ppl.

Only 1 towel for 3 people and no additional blanket or pillow. Horrible service and looting guests.

The tea/ coffee is the worst. They charge 20/25 respectively for sweet hot water. They don't even add milk in milk tea. They add milk powder! Such appalling service.

We visited the resort during the last week of January, 2023. Lava is a small village in the lap of the mountain and the resort and cottages are the best option to stay in Lava and explore the surrounding areas like changey falls, lolegaon, rishop etc.

Absolutely loved our stay here. The cottage given to us was very cozy and yes, clean. The washroom was provided with a geyser which was so necessary in that pinching cold. Food was fresh, homely and budget friendly. The star of this property is however the view of the snow clad mountains and pine trees nestling all around.

Visited in the second week of Dec with family. Location wise best in lava. The resort is located on the lap of pine forest. Stayed there in Gorkha 2,4 and Dubka 1 with family. Rooms were not upto the mark though the bathrooms were very clean. Puspa di there in the canteen is very polite and humble. But the authority must renovate the rooms.

Very bad room condition of super deluxe rooms. Rooms are not even cleaned. Leakage of rain water in every corner of rooms. Foods are not good and costly.

We visited around 27th dec, and were told the resort has underwent some renovation recently. The location is great and rooms were clean. But they did not provide us with room heaters or electric kettle. Temperature was around 5°C, and it was freezing inside the rooms. The doors had gaps below them so insulation was poor causing the beds to be so cold that we had to sleep with jackets on!
I hope they start providing these basic amenities like room heater and electric kettles. The view around cottages are splendid and the cottages are also beautiful. The staff was really polite and helpful and informed us they are working towards renovation and amenities.

Rooms were clean, toilet was clean, geyser in good working condition.rooms were located in between woods. Food in the canteen was horrible. I don't recommend you eat from the canteen.its costly too. Eat from lava bazzar there are lot of hotel.

The location is surreal but only drawback is they don't have heaters in the room. They provide geysers.

This is best place to stay amidst nature and pine forest. This place is far away from crowds and beauty of this location is really spectacular.

If you are staying lava, this is the best place to stay. Really worth it. You might not get to see kanchanjanga from here but the range of mountains would surely mesmerise you. Try booking Gorkha 2, that has the best view. You have to book very early to get the rooms and pay the full amount. Food is not good but can't help. The stairs are really steep. So if there is an elderly person or someone who might have problem in climbing stairs, avoid this resort as well as lava. But other than that lovely experience.

Peaceful place with a pleasant view of Kanchenjunga.
Bokhim, Chumang, Dubling, Nimbong and Pembling cottages are best for calmness and Kanchenjunga views according to my experience.
For jhandi dnara sunrise view point you need to be there before the sunrise. For the purpose we started at 5.10 am from our cottage.
Foods are good but after 8 pm you can't get anything more than you've ordered earlier.

This forest resort is located in the midst of pristine pine and dhupi forest. Mystic fog would cover up the forest early afternoon. There are 2 categories of cottages - Old cottages are located at the lower ground section, you need to descend using narrow steps to reach there and the new cottages are located on the higher ground. We've stayed there back in Jan 2014 in the old cottages. Cottage-4 (Gorkha) has the best view of the valley. You would enjoy the serenity of lava and the monastery. Roam around the place by foot, you would enjoy it.

The cottages vary greatly- we had Quercus 1 and 2 and one was wooden and cold and less than clean while the other was cemented, warmer and newly painted. The place is beautiful (even though Kanchenjunga is only visible when the sky is clear from the common observation deck). The kitchen needs advance notice if you would like the eat and the place is mostly deserted. The forest, however, is beautiful and sometimes the trees and sky shimmer in brilliant, vibrant colors. Lava market is a short (6-7 minute) walk away but since it's off season now, it too is semi-deserted. The taxi syndicate and it's fixed (high) prices are a minus, the nature is a big plus.

Very good place. My experience wasn't too good as I reached the place next to Diwali night and it was totally deserted. Couldn't get lunch on reaching. However overall the place was good with good view.

Lovely and secure lodging and fooding facilities provided by WB Govt. Forest department. Spending the day in the compartment itself is quite exciting and recommended. The complex has its own view-point to get glimpse of Nathula Range and many other accompanied ice-capped peaks.

Once upon a time it was a pride of North Bengal. But now it is badly maintained and the garden is full of weeds.
The canteen is very poor to serve the food. They even can't give an extra glass.
West Bengal forest bunglow and cottages rates are much higher than other states but the service is bad.

The location is best one can find in Lava. The cottages need more care to keep it best. Very quiet and peaceful place. I loved this place.

Very good picturesque location amidst nature. Standard food in the canteen with cordial staffs. View location wise 'Gorkha', 'Dukpa' are better than 'Hill Mayna', but those are to be reached down by long stair path. 'Hill Mayna' is beside motorable road. Two separate canteens run for those two locations.

The place is amazing. The one we stayed was dupka 2. Toilet was clean. We went in June end so kind of expected leeches and damp weather. There are a lot of insects so keep your door and windows shut after dark. Also keep your luggages and bags properly closed because I made the mistake and one spider found its way into my bag.

A fantastic place in nature’s lap. You can can take a walk (4.2 km) through forest to Rishap from here. Food is ok.

This is a beautiful place to visit in lava.it is the only place in lava where u can feel the refreshment of nature and have very good canteen facility also.but beware of 'leech'.

The WBFDC resort is located in Lava. And it's very close to Lava Bazar area. It's basically a jungle area and few cottages are there for booking. One can book it from their website. I went there during rainy season and experienced some stunning cloudy scene in that area. Mainly Pain trees are surrounded the forest. But leech is a annoying problem over there. One must wear full socks, good pair of shoes and must carry salt. We stayed in Hill Mayna 3. But Kanchanjhangha can't be seen from there. Can be seen from Dukpa cottages. Bon fire can be done there as well. Canteen facility is also available there. Guiser facility was also there. And those cottages are made of wood and one double bed is there.

Mesmerizing place.delicious food.though the cotteges can be better maintained.and if you are traveling during rain, BEWARE of the Leeches.

The position of the cottages are the best. "BUT" very bad food, leeches are everywhere if there are any moisture. Spiders and other insects will be there in the cottage with you. I left the cottage today after staying one night, inspite of having 3day booking due to leeches and insects. Please emquire well before you book the cottages. I was in Gorkha 1 and Gorkha 2 cottages with my family. The cottages are in between pine forest. But be aware of leeches and insects.

Good resort. Very good food.just home made. Very good and courteous behaviour of the staffs. But have to walk down hill if you choose to remain in cottages in good locations, such as Gorkha 2, Gorkha 3, Gorkha 4. These cottages give a magnificent view of Kanchenjunga as well as the valley. Lava monastery is nearby. The only drawback of this Lava is frequent power cuts. You will definitely enjoy.

It should be one's first choice if you plan to spend your day completely submerged in the wilderness and thrill of living within a forest. Not recommended for aged people, as one has to climb quite some distance up and down a series of stairs to reach main road or your cottage.

Very very beautiful place to visit for people who love forest, hills and mostly the silent conversation of forest and hills. From all of my places where I have visited, this is the most beautiful. For stay, you have to book the cottage previously from wbfdc website. We have stayed here Dukpa-1 cottage. From njp/siliguri railway station you would may book a cab/suv. After booking you may call to the manager of this wbfdc for booking the car/suv. They will arrange all the things. Food is deliver to but it is chargeable during check out.

Really an awesome place for a small outing. The resort and all of its cottages are to be booked early from WBFDC website. Availability is usually rare. The place offers an unbelievable environment right in the lap of Mother Nature between the pine trees of Lava forest with a breathtaking view of whole Nathula Range and Kanchanjanga Range when the weather is clear. The staffs are very well behaved and fooding are well priced and tasty with dinner costing about Rs 500-600 for a group of 4. The log cottages are all very clean and quite spacy. While the place may be a little more pricy than other Hotels in lava, believe me it's 200% worth it.

A wonderful place to stay at Lava. Amid of pine forest, WBFDC will give a perfect ambience of forest stay. Three kind of room is there named Gorkha, Dukpa, Hill Mayna.
Gorkha 3 and Gorkha 4 are the most attractive cottage for its location.

It was a wonderful site. Just adjacent to Lava Bazar but on the hill. If anybody loves to stay in the natural beauty, it is the perfect place. Vehicle can park in front of the Office. Cottages are there on the two sides of same hill. Hill Moyna cottages & Log huts are on the side of Lava Bazar and vehicle can go to these cottages. Dupka, Gorkha & Quercus Cottages are on the other side which is facing towards valley & view of snowy peaks. But travelers have to use the stairs to reach these cottages. Canteens are there on the both sides of this park. Meals are available in reasonable price. But considering condition & view Gorkha 3 & Gorkha 4 are best cottages.
