West Bengal Forest Development Corporation Rest House

Visited the place in March 2023 with parents, wife and daughter.
It has been developed fabulously, 4 VIP cottages and 6 tents have been added apart from the original 3 super deluxe cottages (which were there when we last visited this place in 2012).
As the resort is beside a forest rest house that normally lodges big shots like the chief minister and the governor, even after a ferocious (norwester) storm, power was restored within an hour while almost the entire north bengal was dark that evening (15th March).
Since the resort is at a fantastically convenient location, Panbu, Kalimpong etc are approx an hours drive. Same is true for part of Dooars like Chalsa and onward.
The service provided by Mr Basan and Mr Akash was ordinary and bound to go down during peak season. However, we were the only boarders during most of the five days and got the best from them. No complaints at all.
The view from the resort comprises the rail bridge on Teesta, occasional trains passing by, Teesta itself, the forest beside the river (possibly Mahananda), Mongpong forest and the hills, not to mention the highway that goes to Chalsa and beyond.
A walk along the Mongpong forest or along the highway makes you feel blessed!

Rabindranath Thakur visit this 3 to, 4 times. He used to stay at eminent writer Maitreyi Devi's Bunglow. Rabindranath's 80th birthday was celebrated here.

Nice place to stay for one day. Food is available with limited variety. Staff behavior is good.

Loved the experience. Got a stand alone room, with attached bath, AC, cupboard. Location is very beautiful. In the forest. The uniqueness is, there is no dinning room. There are two tables and few chairs in a shade, where they serve food. Very nice experience of open space dinning. Very quiet place.

শুধু মাত্র বিশ্রাম নেওয়ার পক্ষে আদর্শ। কাছাকাছি ঘোরার কোন জায়গা নেই। অনেক পাখি দেখা যায়। আমি ময়ূর দেখেছি ৷ হাঁতির দেখা পাইনি। সবকিছুর নিরিখে থাকা এবং খাওয়ার খরচ একটু বেশীই।

সহ অতিথিরা জোড়ে গান চালাতে পারেন। সেটা বেশ কিছু সময় প্রাকৃতিক শান্ত পরিবেশের পরিপন্থি হতে পারে হয়তো।

I will suggest that maintenance should be improve because there are lots ants, spider and other insects inside the tent and don't eat chips etc inside the tent you may face trouble when you're sleeping. Also there is no wifi so please get a wifi. There is also some good things I wanna say that is the view from watch tower is really good and the surroundings is nice.

Rooms are smaller compared to standard accommodation.location is OK.there are better accommodation available in other WBFDC tourist lodges nearby

I just loved it. For me everything was perfect. We stayed in the rooms not in cottages. Cottages are little small in size than the rooms

Clean airconditioned bungalow cottages with clean & new upholstery, clean bathrooms with very nice bathroom fittings.
At a beautiful location away from highwayl inside a forest. Only 28 Kms from Siliguri.
Support staffs are very courteous, good food.
But never a bar which must be there and well stocked.
Most importantly never expensive.

Room Mongpong 1,2,3 and 4 is very specious, well equipped and neat
& clean, much better than Cottage. Garden should be more landscaping. Staff also good specially Basant is very polite and well behaved.

Virtually I did not know about the place. But after comtpletion of my Duars tour I stayed at Mongpong wbfdc lodge for a rest and observed that it is one of the best place to take a leisure time. Stay and enjoy.

The place was BEAutiful and so was the accommodation. The staff of WBFDC eco cottage were very polite and were always ready to help. Special mention - Basant Thapa - the cook, awesome man, great attitude

Mongpong WBFDC cottages is positioned excellently at a hilltop over the river Teesta and dooars rail line. A birdwatchers paradise.

Really this forest is so amazing and the road condition is also good.it's a really a mind fresh place. I request u plz plz visit this forest road

Here it divides into several channels and flows through the lower marshy land of the sanctuary, providing an ideal breeding place for the migratory birds. Situated on the lofty bank of Teesta, Mongpong Forest Rest House offers a great panoramic view of the Mahananda Wild Life Sanctuary and the wide spread Teesta valley. The colour of the river changes as the Sun slowly hides behind the hills. The flocks of wild goose fly back to their nests. The sudden chorus of crickets and beetles animates the surrounding forests. A leopard roars nearby. And night falls at Mongpong. It is now time to return to your nest, one of the coziest ones in the region. Spend the rest of the night in complete peace.
